GENERAL:

Stewards interviewed Mr. S. Gower, Trainer of SWISS VAULT, regarding an article which appeared in the National Form publication Winning Post, allegedly quoting his intending riding tactics for this filly.

Mr. Gower confirmed that he had spoken to a reporter on the Tuesday and had stated that SWISS VAULT was nominated for two events. He advised that at that time he had preferred starting SWISS VAULT in the Class 1 event, rather than the 3-year-old event and had commented that he would prefer to attempt to have the filly ridden off the pace. He had, instead, accepted for the 3-year-old event. Due to an apparent lack of pace in this field, he had instructed Jockey B. Claridge to be aware of the pace of the race in the early stages and use his own initiative. Stewards confirmed these instructions with the rider.

After considering Mr. Gower’s explanation, Stewards took no further action.
