RACE 1: - MAGIC MILLIONS HANDICAP - 1600 metres

BENARBER (D. Tootell) raced ungenerously and was inclined to hang out in the early and middle stages of the event.

Approaching the winning post BENARBER (D. Tootell) shifted out and clipped the heels of SALAZAR (J. Maund).

Near the 600 metres RIDE THE STORM (B. Claridge), which was inclined to lay in, shifted in and inconvenienced INTERCEPTION (NZ) (P. Gatt).

Subsequent to the race STRIKING PLUME, which performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

Subsequent to the race INTERCEPTION (NZ), which performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the mare was suffering from generalised muscular soreness in the shoulders.

BENARBER was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 2: - CENTRE RACING HANDICAP - 1350 metres

WESTACE (N. Tomizawa) jumped away awkwardly.

SOCIAL GLOW (M. Neilson) and UPMARKET STAR (C. Bryant) were both inclined to rear as when the gates opened.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres, KEETAH’S LADY (C. Lindop), which was attempting to improve inside RUN LIKE BLEVIC (J. Bowditch) became held up for a short distance when that filly rolled in under pressure.

FINNISS D’OR suffered a bi-lateral bleeding attack during the event. Mr. P. C. Barns, trainer of FINNISS D’OR, was advised that the gelding was suspended from training for three months under ARR 53 (A).

RACE 3: - SILVERLINE SECURITY HANDICAP - 1000 metres

ST VIVANT (C. Bryant), which was inclined to rear, was slow to jump.

A CUTE CONNECTION (S. Price) was slow to jump.

Near the 700 metres, SWISS VAULT (B. Claridge) was obliged to steady off the heels of VEGAS SHOW (J. Bowditch), which shifted in.

Near the 600 metres, NORWICH (W. Kerford), which was inclined to lay away from the rail, shifted out onto VEGAS SHOW (J. Bowditch) resulting in that filly shifting away and hampering PELIAS (T. Creek), which became unbalanced for a short distance. In consequence, PURA SEDA (J. Potter) got its head up and raced greenly when being steadied.

Inside the 600 metres SWISS VAULT (B. Claridge), which was inclined to shift about, shifted in and tightened TELBON GOLD (S. Tronerud), which was obliged to ease.

Over the concluding stages QUANTUM LEAP (P. Gatt) was unable to gain clear ground.

J. Holder, the rider of THE DANZIG TRILOGY, explained he had been instructed to settle that colt behind the pace and be aware that it may over-race. He stated he had been able to carry out his instructions and his mount had travelled well until approaching the entrance of the straight. He added, after finding clear ground, he had placed THE DANZIG TRILOGY under pressure; however, it had failed to respond to his riding. Mr. J. Hall, representing Mr. D. Hall, the trainer of THE DANZIG TRILOGY, confirmed the instructions.

THE DANZIG TRILOGY was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported it was lame in the off hind leg. Mr. J. Hall, representing trainer Mr. D. Hall, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required prior to accepting for a future event.

PELIAS was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the colt to be lame in the off foreleg.

RACE 4: - THE ENVELOPE SPECIALISTS PLATE - 1350 metres

OAKMART (H. Akiyama), which had got down in the float en route to the track, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon upon arrival and ruled fit to start, however, a further examination revealed the filly to be exhibiting signs of lameness in the off hind leg and as a result OAKMART was withdrawn by Stewards at 1.30 pm.

The start of this race was delayed owing to THOR’S DAUGHTER requiring farrier attention after having sprung a plate in the enclosure.

KALA CHARM (T. Barras) and THOR’S DAUGHTER (R. McLeod) were both slow to jump.

COSMIC DUDE (J. Bowditch) hung out making the turn in the vicinity of the 700 metres and continued to lay out for the remainder o the event. J. Bowditch confirmed that the gelding had hung out severely throughout the event. COSMIC DUDE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

Approaching the 600 metres, OUTBACK LAD (C. Lindop) shifted out and brushed COSMIC DUDE (J. Bowditch) on several occasions.

Near the 200 metres PAY KEYS (C. Lever) shifted in abruptly and inconvenienced COSMIC DUDE (J. Bowditch), which had commenced to weaken.

Near the 100 metres, CARLTON CONQUEST (C. Bryant) dropped his inside rein.

When questioned regarding his reasons for failing to attempt to run between BARABBA ROAD (P. Gatt) and ISLE OF GIBRALTOR (S. Price) near the 200 metres, C. Bryant explained that he had not considered the run due to his filly being inclined to lay in and in his opinion both the other runners were inclined to shift about. He stated that in order to obtain an uninterrupted run he attempted to shift to the outside of BARABBA ROAD, however, in doing so, he had dropped his inside rein resulting in the filly not improving as quickly as it otherwise might have. Stewards accepted his explanation.

RACE 5: - BONNETTS HANDICAP - 1000 metres

RALLY (J. Potter) and SANGIOVESE (S. Tronerud) both jumped away awkwardly.

Inside the 500 metres, EL DIABLO (C. Bryant) rolled in and tightened LAZING ABOUT (N. Tomizawa) taking that gelding in onto QUEEN MIDAS (R. Faehr).

Inside the 300 metres, SAVAGE ATTACK (J. Holder) became disappointed when attempting to run between EL DIABLO (C. Bryant), which shifted in under pressure, and LAZING ABOUT (N. Tomizawa), which rolled out. Shortly after SAVAGE ATTACK shifted to the inside of LAZING ABOUT and became held up for a short distance.

Approaching the 200 metres, MIGHTY RAJA (S. Price) shifted in and contacted STAND BY ME (P. Gatt) resulting in that gelding being tightened and eventually being obliged to lose its position. S. Price was reprimanded and advised to take greater care when shifting ground in the future.

Near the 100 metres, RALLY (J. Potter), when attempting to improve, shifted out onto QUEEN MIDAS (R. Faehr), which was inconvenienced

C. Bryant, the rider of EL DIABLO, reported that in the vicinity of the 200 metres he had eased his mount out of the event as he became concerned with the gelding’s action. EL DIABLO was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported that an endoscopic examination revealed the gelding had a lower respiratory tract infection. Mr. J. Gask, trainer of the gelding, advised that he had initially intended to consider retiring EL DIABLO, however, in light of the infection, would discuss its future with the owners. Mr. Gask was advised that should EL DIABLO resume racing, a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness for the gelding would be required prior to performing in an official trial. Stewards ordered a swab sample be taken from EL DIABLO.

RACE 6: - COLLEX PORT ADELAIDE GUINEAS - 1800 metres

VICKSBURG (J. Holder) shifted out on jumping away and tightened BLUE HAZE (S. Tronerud). Shortly after, VICKSBURG shifted back on to KRAVITZ (Damien Holland) tightening that gelding on to INQUISITIONAL (M. Allen).

GOLD ATTIRE (NZ) (V. Hall) shifted out taking REGAL CHALLENGER (C. Lever) onto the hindquarters of JAMEELA (S. Price) resulting in REGAL CHALLENGER losing its position.

Approaching the 500 metres VICKSBURG (J. Holder) became held up behind IMPULSIVE REALITY (P. Gatt), which commenced to weaken. In consequence, REGAL CHALLENGER (C. Lever) was obliged to steady off the heels of VICKSBURG and shifted out tightening MOUNT KOSCIUSKO (NZ) (R. McLeod).

At the entrance to the straight, MOUNT KOSCIUSKO (NZ) (R. McLeod) was tightened for room between REGAL CHALLENGER (C. Lever), which shifted out, and BLUE HAZE (S. Tronerud), which was inclined to lay in. BLUE HAZE continued to lay in under pressure in the straight.

RACE 7: - LAKEWOOD STUD STAKES - 1800 metres

At the entrance to the straight, YVONNE (J. Holder) rolled out and brushed TARCOOLA DIAMOND (V. Hall).

Inside the 100 metres, YVONNE (J. Holder) laid out under pressure and, approaching the finish, shifted out onto TARCOOLA DIAMOND (V. Hall). J. Holder was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

Correct Weight for this event was delayed to permit V. Hall, the rider of second placed TARCOOLA DIAMOND, and Mr. D. Lawson, trainer of that filly, to view the official footage in the straight. After doing so V. Hall lodged an objection against YVONNE (J. Holder) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference from the entrance to the straight. After considering the evidence, viewing the official footage and acting on their own observations, the objection was dismissed as Stewards were not convinced that TARCOOLA DIAMOND had been sufficiently impeded to warrant interfering with the placings.

SUBELLA, which performed poorly, was examined by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon who reported the filly had taken wind and recommended the filly undergo a caslick operation.

RACE 8: - POPE PACKAGING HANDICAP - 1450 metres

Inside the 1000 metres KELMARK (J. Maund) eased when tightened by ENFOLD (W. Kerford), which rolled in.

Approaching the 600 metres KELMARK (J. Maund), while being restrained off the heels of ENFOLD (W. Kerford) as the pace steadied, got its head up and raced ungenerously.

At the entrance to the straight, UNROCEL SAINT (J. Holder) shifted in and inconvenienced KELMARK (J. Maund).

UNROCEL SAINT was examined by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities. Stewards ordered a swab sample be taken from UNROCEL SAINT.
