RACE 1 – VARIETY, THE CHILDREN’S CHARITY MAIDEN PLATE - 1000 metres

Mr. D. Pannell, representing Mr. J. Hawkes Trainer of PIERROT, was advised that a repetition of the gelding’s behaviour in being reluctant to leave the Mounting Yard and travel to the gates, may lead to action being taken against it.

AGGIE’S DOUBLE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon prior to the start and ruled fit.

MR. WATERMARK (S. Price) jumped away awkwardly.

AGGIE’S DOUBLE (J. Maund), MARQUIS ED (C. Bryant) and HORIAD (J. Lyon) were slow to jump.

Shortly after the start BLUE BUBBLE (D. Carney) shifted out and contacted PIERROT (W. Kerford).

Near the 700 metres MARQUIS ED (C. Bryant) commenced to hang out and continued to shift out, hampering HORIAD (J. Lyon) for a considerable distance. MARQUIS ED was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported it was lame in the off fore leg. Mr. I. Boess, Trainer of the gelding, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required before accepting for any future event.

PIERROT (W. Kerford) was inclined to lay in over the concluding stages of the event.

MY GOLDLEN STAR (N. Tomizawa) was inclined to lay in under pressure from approximately the 600 metres.

HORIAD shifted a near hind plate during the event.

RACE 2 – COLLAROY DEVELOPMENTS MAIDEN PLATE (1st Division) - 1450 metres (Outer)

AVARUBY was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon prior to the start and was lame in the near fore leg. Acting on that advice Stewards withdrew AVARUBY at 3.20 p.m.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on AVARUBY be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN 8 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE 9 cents in the dollar.
SP bets are subject to the deductions.

ANNUL (W. Kerford) was slow to jump.

Near the 1200 metres GOLDEN SHOW (C. Buchiw) improved onto the heels of CANNY CONTENDER (Darren Holland) as the pace eased and was obliged to steady off that gelding’s heels.

Near the 700 metres GOLDEN SHOW (C. Buchiw) shifted out and contacted the hindquarters of ZIPPA RAJA (N. Tomizawa).

Approaching the 500 metres REGAL SHAMROCK (S. Price) shifted out and brushed TOPAVIC (D. Carney).

RACE 3 – MORTGAGE CHOICE MAIDEN PLATE (2nd Division) - 1450 metres (Outer)

SMOOTH AS SILK was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon prior to the start and ruled fit.

QUIET STRIKE (B. Claridge) jumped away awkwardly.

In the vicinity of the 1300 metres ZIP TOP (D. Carney) shifted in onto IT AIN’T OVER (Darren Holland), which was obliged to steady to avoid heels. At the same time AGUILERA (C. Buchiw) shifted out, taking ROMANTIC LASS (S. Price) out onto LIVE THE DREAM (B. Vale), which was taken out onto SMOOTH AS SILK (J. Holder), tightening that mare onto IT AIN’T OVER. D. Carney was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.

Near the 1000 metres SMOOTH AS SILK (J. Holder), which had made the turn awkwardly, shifted in onto ROMANTIC LASS (S. Price), which was also inclined to shift in and away from SMOOTH AS SILK, resulting in BARTAS BOY (C. Bryant) being tightened and losing its position. In consequence GRANDE ROSSO (J. Potter) was inconvenienced in avoiding BARTAS BOY.

Near the 700 metres GUNS ‘N’ GLORY (M. Neilson), which had improved into a tight position inside TOAST TO LENNY (W. Kerford), shifted in and away from that gelding as it rolled in, resulting in NOT JUDE’S CHOICE (T. Creek), which was racing inside GUNS ‘N’ GLORY, being forced to check and lose its position. M. Neilson was reprimanded and advised in future to take greater care when shifting ground. In reaction to this incident IT AIN’T OVER (Darren Holland) shifted out abruptly, resulting in LIVE THE DREAM (B. Vale), which had commenced to improve, being severely hampered. IT AIN’T OVER (Darren Holland) lost its action behind and was pulled up by the rider. An examination by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon revealed the gelding had been galloped on and was lame in the near hind leg.

Approaching the 400 metres ROMANTIC LASS (S. Price), when attempting a tight run between ZIP TOP (D. Carney) and QUIET STRIKE (B. Claridge) on its inside, brushed QUIET STRIKE which shifted away, inconveniencing BULL CREEK BABE (N. Tomizawa) and GRANDE ROSSO (J. Potter).

B. Claridge, rider of QUIET STRIKE, was reprimanded for continuing to use the whip over the concluding stages when his mount was out of contention and not responding.

QUIET STRIKE lost its near hind plate during the race.

GUNS ‘N’ GLORY sustained a laceration to its near hind pastern during the event.

BULL CREEK BABE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the mare was sore in the back.

SMOOTH AS SILK was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the mare was lame in the near fore leg. Mr. L. M. Macdonald, Trainer of SMOOTH AS SILK, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required before accepting for any future event

RACE 4 – BERNARD H BOOTH REAL ESTATE CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 1650 metres (Outer)

Near the 400 metres LEAD ON (J. Potter) was held up for a short distance to the outside of the heels of MARSCMER (C. Bryant).

RACE 5 – MARSHALL THOMPSON CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1250 metres (Inner)

Near the 1100 metres BLUE BOWS (D. Cleaver) shifted in and tightened MIMINI (B. Vale), taking that filly in onto TASTE THE SPIRIT (N. Tomizawa), resulting in MIMINI being forced to ease off the heels of BLUE BOWS. D. Cleaver was advised in future to give riders on the inside the room to which they are entitled.

Inside the 1000 metres SWITCH BELLE (S. Price) rolled in and brushed BLACK STUMP (D. Carney), which shifted away abruptly, making contact with the hindquarters of OCHEROUS (Darren Holland), resulting in BLACK STUMP racing greenly for a short distance.

Near the 900 metres OCHEROUS (Darren Holland), which had commenced to race keenly, shifted out and brushed SWITCH BELLE (S. Price), resulting in that filly being taken wide. In consequence BLACK STUMP (D. Carney), REGENT COPY (J. Lyon) and GOLDEN MILINA (J. Potter) made the turn off the back straight awkwardly.

Racing to the 900 metres TASTE THE SPIRIT (N. Tomizawa) was inclined to lay out, across the heels of MIMINI (B. Vale).

Near the 800 metres OCHEROUS (Darren Holland), which continued to race fiercely, improved onto the hindquarters of RURAL FORREST (B. Claridge) and in being restrained shifted about and hampered SWITCH BELLE (S. Price). In consequence OCHEROUS shifted in onto MIMINI (B. Vale), taking that filly in onto TASTE THE SPIRIT (N. Tomizawa), which was checked.

BETTA FORTUNE (J. Holder) was eased out of the race near the 1000 metres. J. Holder reported that he had not been happy with his mount’s action in the early stages of the event. BETTA FORTUNE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the mare was sore in the lower back. Mr. L. Macdonald, Trainer of BETTA FORTUNE, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required before accepting for a future event.

Mr. D. Clarken, Trainer of OCHEROUS, was advised that if the gelding continued to race in a similar un-tractable manner, action may be taken against it.

MIMINI, which performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the filly was lame in the near hind leg.

RACE 6 – SEXTON & GLOVER REAL ESTATE HANDICAP 1250 metres (Inner)

In the vicinity of the 400 metres BOLD REEF (J. Lyon) rolled out and inconvenienced EXALTED LAD (M. Neilson).

Subsequent to the race ROYAL LIFTOUT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding was sore in both front feet.

CONTRIVED, which performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding was lame in the near fore leg.

RACE 7 – THE KONICA CLASS 4 TROPHY (Heat 6 of Star of Xmas Series) –  1450 metres (Outer)

During the preliminary IRISH MUR (J. Lyon) crashed through the inside running rail immediately after the winning post and escaped into the infield. On being captured IRISH MUR was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding was not fit to race. Acting on that advice IRISH MUR was withdrawn by Stewards at 6.23 p.m.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on IRISH MUR be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN 6 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE 7 cents in the dollar.
SP bets are not subject to the deductions.

Inside the 500 metres CHATZ (J. Holder) was unable to obtain clear ground for some distance.

Approaching the 200 metres BAITENHAUSEN (B. Claridge) shifted out and inconvenienced DAMSELAC WARRIOR (D. Tootell).

Inside the 200 metres BAITENHAUSEN (B. Claridge) when attempting to run outside RONDA’S GIRL (N. Tomizawa), which rolled out marginally, was tightened for some distance by FRENCH REVOLUATION (W. Kerford), which was inclined to lay in under riding. W. Kerford was reprimanded and advised in future he would be required to stop riding and attempt to straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.

Subsequent to the race DAMSELAC WARRIOR, which performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the mare to be sore in the back. Mr. P. Seater, Trainer of DAMSELAC WARRIOR, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required before the mare is accepted for a future event.

RACE 8 – WATERFORD DEVELOPMENT CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1000 metres

After being loaded BAROSSA MUSIC reared and became cast in the gates prior to being extricated. The mare was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and ruled unfit to start. Acting on that advice Stewards withdrew BAROSSA MUSIC at 7.05 p.m. After considering BAROSSA MUSIC’S previous record Mr. K. Buick, Trainer of BAROSSA MUSIC, was advised the mare would be banned from racing.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on BAROSSA MUSIC be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN 3 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE 4 cents in the dollar.
SP bets are subject to the deductions.

In the vicinity of the 700 metres ROYAL POINT (NZ) (J. Maund), which was inclined to lay out, shifted out and inconvenienced CEZANTE (N. Tomizawa).

Near the 300 metres N. Tomizawa, rider of CEZANTE, dropped his whip. N. Tomizawa was fined $50 under ARR 137(a).

RACE 9 – WINGATE PROPERTIES & PRODEC MAIDEN PLATE - 1000 metres

BLEVIC’S JEWEL (S. Price) was slow to jump.

On jumping away KOOLTRICE (J. Maund) shifted in, at the same time as SUBELLA (B. Claridge) jumped outwards, resulting in TYCUS (C. Bryant) being tightened and inconvenienced.

Inside the 700 metres TYCUS (C. Bryant) shifted in and tightened VERSE LAGO (J. Lyon) onto the hindquarters of OUR PATTY GIRL (Darren Holland) turning that filly out, and as a result of the pressure VERSE LAGO was forced to check and lose its position. C. Bryant was found guilty of a charge of Careless Riding under ARR 137(a) and suspended for a period of four meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday 22nd December and expire at midnight on Sunday 29th December 2002.

Near the 400 metres KOOLTRICE (J. Maund), which was inclined to lay in, shifted in onto VERSE LAGO (J. Lyon), which was inconvenienced and taken in onto OUR PATTY GIRL (Darren Holland).

Approaching the 100 metres J. Maund, rider of KOOLTRICE, accidentally dropped his whip. J. Maund was advised that future carelessness may lead to action being taken against him.
