RACE 1 – JAMIESONS RUN MAIDEN PLATE – 1600 metres:

MAGUIRES MILLIONS (K. Post) and TOAST TO LENNY (D. Missen) bumped at the start.

In the vicinity of the 1100 metres BOOJUM (P. Marks) shifted out when being steadied from the heels of GOLD COUP (A. Darmanin) and as a result CADILLAC MISS (NZ) (B. Blacker) was taken wider for a short distance.

RACE 2 – LECONFIELD /SABIS FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE – 1100 metres:

Correct Weight was delayed to permit A. Darmanin, rider of 2nd Placegetter ACTION AMORE, to view the official head-on Patrol film in the straight.

In the vicinity of the 700 metres BON TRUCE (P. Marks) shifted in and as a result ACTION AMORE (A. Darmanin) had to be steadied for a few strides.

In the vicinity of the 250 metres ACTION AMORE (A. Darmanin) shifted in very slightly, at the same time as BON TRUCE (P. Marks) shifted out and as a result ZENAKAY (NZ) contacted the heels of BON TRUCE and stumbled, dislodging its rider H. McKechnie. No action was taken, other than to advise H. McKechnie to be certain there is sufficient room when taking a run between horses. Stewards also advised P. Marks to exercise more care when his mounts commence to shift ground. MYSTICAL TOUCH (S. Harrison) was inconvenienced when avoiding H. McKechnie, after she was dislodged from ZENAKAY (NZ). H. McKechnie was examined by the Club’s Medical Officers, who passed her fit to fulfil her remaining engagements for the day.

GIRLS TALK (S. Price) and ACTION AMORE (A. Darmanin) brushed over the concluding stages.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary examination revealed ZENAKAY (NZ) had suffered a laceration to its near fore leg.

RACE 3 – HOLLICK WINES CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100 metres:

Correct Weight was delayed when Mr. A. Carraill, Trainer of the 2nd Placegetter WOODBINE FLYER, wished to view the official photo-finish print.

GO ALO (W. Kerford) shifted out at the start onto MISS ANCESTRY (D. Missen), at the same time as WOODBINE FLYER (K. Post) shifted in. As a result, MONTEGO (S. Price), which was between WOODBINE FLYER and MISS ANCESTRY, was badly checked and lost its position.

CHOCKO (T. Barras) and WOODBINE FLYER (K. Post) brushed in the vicinity of the 50 metres.

RACE 4 – BALNAVES OF COONAWARRA CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1400 metres:

Mr. J. Hickmott, Trainer of AGGIE’S DOUBLE, was advised that a warning had been placed on the gelding in relation to it being difficult to load.

STAR TUNE (H. McKechnie) was slow to begin.

In the vicinity of the 50 metres LAMBRUK (B. Neville) shifted in and hampered CAPTAIN COSMIC (A. Darmanin), which in turn shifted in, resulting in MONDERWYK (B. Blacker) having to be steadied for a few strides. B. Neville was advised to exercise more care when riding his mounts out to the finish.

RACE 5 – REDMANS DISTANCE CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1700 metres:

MILL SPRING (D. Mittiga) was hampered at the start when WORLDLY ROSE (W. Kerford) jumped out, at the same time as RED’S TOY (B. Neville) jumped in.

RACE 6 –COONAWARRA CUP – 1700 metres

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres RUNAWAY RHYTHM (NZ) (S. Price) shifted in and as a result SHOWGAZER (M. Hagley) had to be momentarily steadied.

RACE 7 – MAJELLA CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1300 metres:

Apprentice B. Neville was questioned regarding the performance of MORE MELBOURNE in this event. B. Neville advised the Stewards he had been instructed by Trainer Mrs. S. Jaensch to settle MORE MELBOURNE in behind other runners, with cover, early in the race. B. Neville stated that MORE MELBOURNE appeared not to be interested in racing at all and failed to respond to his riding, particularly in the vicinity of the 700 metres, when the gelding was hard ridden and failed to make up much ground. He further advised when MORE MELBOURNE eventually began to respond to his riding, at the top of the straight, the gelding had laid in, in the straight, forcing him to stop riding and straighten his mount. B. Neville was advised his explanations would be noted.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary examination of MORE MELBOURNE revealed the gelding was slow to recover.

RACE 8 – WYNNS COONAWARRA ESTATE / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1300 metres:

FAIR REWARD (D. Yendall) and TAOS PLEASURE (D. Missen) bumped at the start.

CARD STAR (J. Lyon) stumbled shortly after the start.

PINKERBELLE (S. Price) laid out between the 700 and the 400 metres, and as a result FAIR REWARD (D. Yendall) was hampered for some time.

C. Lindop was fined $200 under ARR 144 for failing to weigh in, after finishing third.

GENERAL:

Mr. G. D. Kennewell, Trainer of GIRLS TALK which was to race in a tongue tie for the first time, reported to Stewards the tie had dislodged on jumping away and that, in his opinion, the filly had not competed with the gear. Mr. Kennewell informed Stewards he would now seek permission to race GIRLS TALK without a tongue tie.
