RACE 1 - CLARE HELIPAD DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE - 1800 metres

BENGRETA LAD (S. Tronerud) was slow to jump.

Shortly after the start NASTIVE EDITION (C. Bryant) was obliged to steady off the heels of JET VARAJA (W. Kerford), which shifted in.

Approaching the 100 metres BEGRETA LAD (S. Tronerud) was inclined to lay in and away from FARAWAY GAZE (B. Grimston) and shortly after was inconvenienced by STELAW (J. Lyon), which shifted out under riding.

Correct Weight was delayed to permit S. Tronerud, rider of the 3rd Placed BENGRETA LAD, to view the official footage over the concluding stages. S. Tronerud lodged an objection against the 2nd Placed STELAW (J. Lyon), on the grounds of alleged interference from approximately the 100 metres. After considering the evidence, viewing the official vision and acting on their own observations, Stewards upheld this objection. The placings were amended to:
First 1 FARAWAY GAZE (B. Grimston)
Second 5 BENGRETA LAD (S. Tronerud)
Third 3 STELAW (J. Lyon)
Fourth 8 JET VARAJA (W. Kerford)

RACE 2 - TOWN & COUNTRY ROOFING DISTANCE CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 2500 metres

BLEVITA lost its near front plate during the event.

RACE 3 - CLARE HELIPAD DISTANCE CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1700 metres

PURE CLASS (W. Kerford) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, tightening LITTLE MISS CINDY (M. Neilson) onto CATE’S FOREST (NZ) (S. Price).

PRETTY ORDINARY (C. Buchiw) was inclined to get its head up and race keenly in the middle stages of the race.

Near the 300 metres PRETTY ORDINARY (C. Buchiw) was obliged to steady when inconvenienced by AFFINITAS (J. Potter), which shifted out.

RACE 4 - CARVERY DELIGHT CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1200 metres

LINE OF GOLD was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 5 - CLARE VALLEY TOYOTA HANDICAP - 1700 metres

WILL SOAR was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon on arrival at the gates and found to be unfit to start. Acting on that advice WILL SOAR was withdrawn by Stewards at 2.56 p.m.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on WILL SOAR be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN 10 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE 10 cents in the dollar.
SP bets are subject to the deductions.

JESTER’S EDGE (M. Neilson) was slow to jump and on jumping away was inconvenienced by RED PADDY (B. Claridge), which shifted out.

RACE 6 - THE 5CS DAVE GILLETTE MEMORIAL / SABIS CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1100 metres

CLASSIC DANZIG (W. Kerford) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, hampering MILITARY POST (B. Claridge).

JON’S ACCOUNT (J. O’Connor) raced very greenly throughout the event.

Near the 700 metres CLOUDS OF FIRE (K. Stra) got its head up and made the turn awkwardly, shifting out and inconveniencing JON’S ACCOUNT (J. O’Connor) and WOODPECKER (D. Tootell).

RACE 7 - SMOKE-FREE CHALLENGE 2003 (Heat 3) - 1200 metres

KEDRON (B. Vale) and YELLOW CARD (R. Faehr) were slow to jump.

ROYAL REALM (J. O’Connor) jumped away awkwardly.

Racing to the 700 metres POWER FROM PORT (J. Marks), which had commenced to race keenly, shifted in and away from ROYAL REALM (J. O’Connor) and in doing so struck the running rail.

RACE 8 - GOLDEN NORTH GIANT TWIN / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE 3-Y-O & Up - 1200 metres

M. Neilson was questioned regarding his engagement for RUSTIC HALO and LUCKY LAURA in this event. After considering the explanation tendered M. Neilson was advised that future incidents may lead to action being taken against him.

Mr. J. D. Smith, Trainer of RUSTIC HALO, was questioned regarding the late scratching of that gelding. Stewards accepted Mr. Smith’s explanation.

OXFORD SCENE (B. Claridge) was slow to jump.

On jumping away WOLINSKI PARK (B. Dunn) shifted out and inconvenienced SOCK IT TO ME (J. Lyon).

Inside the 800 metres POKEMONSTER (K. Stra) got its head up and became reluctant to hold its position and made the turn off the back straight awkwardly.

Near the 500 metres POKEMONSTER (K. Stra) shifted out and contacted the hindquarters of OXFORD SCENE (B. Claridge).
