Mount Gambier Officials Have TRSA Support

The Mount Gambier Racing Club has recently been the medium of some misleading information regarding the club's financial position.

The club wishes to report the following information:

The accounts for the financial year ending 30 June 2002 indicate an operating profit in excess of $9000 (pre depreciation of non club funded assets).

The secretary manager duties will be contracted out to a company and that company will be responsible for the full range of financial and administrative duties.

The Chief Executive of Thoroughbred Racing SA is satisfied with the club in respect to:

  • the strategic management process and preparation of a 3 year business plan
  • very positive involvement in relation to the new Regional Business Development Manager position for the Limestone Coast Racing district
  • the method of managing the secretary manager role and functions.
  • The 2001/2002 financial position of the club.

Late yesterday Mr Cameron advised that TRSA deferred sending an accountant down to Mt Gambier due to the positive progress being made and subject to Mt Gambier providing a report and action plan to TRSA for its next Board Meeting. The accountant was available to provide assistance and to ensure we were operating within the guidelines and policies set by TRSA.

With regard to the track upgrade, any track refurbishment obviously encounters some tough times, but the club, along with TRSA have continued to provide race meetings and training facilities for owners and trainers thanks to the cooperation of other clubs in the district, namely Millicent, Penola, Casterton, Bordertown, and Naracoorte. Thanks also must go to the trainers for their cooperation during this time. The upgrade is on schedule and within budget and certainly will be a great facility for the future.
