RACE 1 - P & M QUALITY SMALLGOODS /SABIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE - 1050 metres

THE STRONGEST LINK (M. Henderson) jumped away awkwardly.

THIS LITTLE PIG (H. Akiyama) and JUGAH’S LANDING (B. Claridge) brushed on jumping away.

Shortly after the start FINITAS (B. Vale) was tightened by IVORY BIRD (S. Price), as a result of that filly being taken in slightly by ALLUDING (W. Kerford).

BAKARRI (K. Stra), which had been inclined to lay out, shifted out at the entrance to the straight.

Inside the 300 metres, for some distance, THIS LITTLE PIG (H. Akiyama) became held up when held tight by JUGAH’S LANDING (B. Claridge), which was inclined to lay in.

RACE 2 - TOP PORK CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1050 metres

LA JOLIE (P. Gatt) reared as the gates opened and missed the start.

WOODPECKER (D. Carney) jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 200 metres LA JOLIE (P. Gatt) was inconvenienced when obliged to steady momentarily, when tightened by MILITARY POST (D. Tootell).

Near the 100 metres BIG RED MACHINE (K. Stra) shifted about under pressure.

RACE 3 - PRIMO MEATS AUSTRALIA / SABIS THREE-YEAR-OLD CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1300 metres

BLEVIC’S JEWEL (Shane Tronerud) was slow to jump.

On jumping away CLAY MAN (B. Claridge) shifted out, taking BLUEWIN (D. Carney) out onto REGAL CHALLENGER (C. Lever), which was tightened onto NISHIKAWA (P. Gatt), resulting in REGAL CHALLENGER losing its position.

Inside the 1000 metres NISHIKAWA (P. Gatt) was tightened on several occasions by RUSTIC HALO (M. Neilson), which rolled in, resulting in NISHIKAWA commencing to race keenly for some distance thereafter.

RACE 3 - PRIMO MEATS AUSTRALIA / SABIS THREE-YEAR-OLD CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1300 metres

Near the 400 metres NISHIKAWA (P. Gatt) shifted out, taking HERE’S ME MATE (J. Maund) out onto BLEVIC’S JEWEL (Shane Tronerud), which was inclined to lay in, resulting in that filly being inconvenienced and becoming unbalanced.

RACE 4 - PRIMO EMPLOYEES CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1600 metres

AFFINITAS (J. Lyon) jumped away awkwardly.

PRETTY ORDINARY (C. Buchiw) was inclined to race keenly in the middle stages of the event.

Inside the 400 metres TIONA (S. Price) shifted out and inconvenienced LANCE CORPORAL (C. Bryant).

RACE 5 - PRIMO PORT WAKEFIELD ABATTOIR DISTANCE CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 2200 metres

On arrival at the start CHOCOLATE ÉCLAIR and GRANDE ROSSO were examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and ruled unfit to start. Acting on that advice CHOCOLATE ÉCLAIR and GRANDE ROSSO were withdrawn by Stewards at 2.44 p.m.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on CHOCOLATE ÉCLAIR and GRANDE ROSSO be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawals were to be paid on the face value of the tickets less:
Bets for a WIN 24 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE 21 cents in the dollar.
SP bets are subject to the deductions.

Near the 1800 metres, when being restrained, EXALTED BEAU (M. Neilson) was inclined to get its head up and race ungenerously.

Inside the 400 metres EXALTED BEAU (M. Neilson), in attempting a tight run outside NASTIVE EDITION (C. Lindop), brushed with SALAZAR (J. Maund).

Near the 300 metres EXALTED BEAU (M. Neilson) was accidentally struck across the head by the whip of C. Lindop, rider of NASTIVE EDITION. Shortly after EXALTED BEAU shifted out onto SALAZAR (J. Maund), taking that gelding out onto GROUND SPEED (NZ) (N. Tomizawa), which was inclined to lay in. GROUND SPEED (NZ) continued to lay in and contacted SALAZAR on a couple of occasions.

Inside the 300 metres BLEVITA (J. Lyon) shifted out and inconvenienced YOUNG WILLY (W. Kerford).

In the vicinity of the 100 metres SALAZAR (J. Maund) shifted in and brushed EXALTED BEAU (M. Neilson), which shifted out.

RACE 5 - PRIMO PORT WAKEFIELD ABATTOIR DISTANCE CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 2200 metres

Correct Weight was delayed to permit J. Maund rider of SALAZAR the 2nd Placegetter, and that gelding’s Trainer Mr. T. Day, to view the official Stewards footage over the concluding 400 metres. After doing so J. Maund lodged an objection against EXALTED BEAU (M. Neilson), being declared the winner, on the grounds of alleged interference over the concluding 400 metres. After considering the evidence, viewing the vision and acting on their own observations Stewards, having regard to the beaten margin, were not convinced the consequences of the interference suffered were sufficient to interfere with the placings and dismissed the objection.

PROPHET’S DREAM (C. Buchiw) suffered a laceration to its off fore pastern during the race.

CHOCOLATE ÉCLAIR was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and found to be lame in the off foreleg. Mr. T. Simounds, Trainer of CHOCOLATE ÉCLAIR, undertook to provide Stewards with results of an extensive Veterinary examination in the stable.

GRANDE ROSSO was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and found to be lame in the off foreleg. Mrs. S. Hodge, Trainer of GRANDE ROSSO, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required prior to accepting for a future event.

RACE 6 - FESTIVAL CITY WINES & FOODS CLASS 5 HANDICAP - 1400 metres

RORTING (J. Bowditch) and TEHRIER (W. Kerford) were slow to jump.

From the vicinity of the 1000 metres BENARBER (D. Tootell) was inclined to lay out and shift away from runners on his inside, and continued to lay out until entering the straight.

Near the 200 metres J. Maund, rider of NORTH CORNER, dropped his whip. He was fined $50 for carelessness under ARR 137(a).

RACE 7 - ANDREW LEDERER MAIDEN PLATE 3-Y-O & UP - 1400 metres

Mr. A. McEvoy,Trainer of THUNDER CLAPS which proved difficult to load, was advised that a repetition of the colt’s behaviour would lead to action being taken against it.

J. Bowditch, rider SHADY MONDE, reported the filly lost its hind legs on jumping away.

Inside the 1000 metres GALGA JACK (C. Buchiw), which was inclined to race fiercely, was forced to steady off the heels of THUNDER CLAPS (C. Bryant). GALGA JACK continued to race ungenerously for a short distance.

Inside the 200 metres ANIVARA (S. Price) shifted about under pressure.

Inside the 100 metres THUNDER CLAPS (C. Bryant) raced greenly under pressure, and approaching the winning post shifted out abruptly and contacted ANIVARA (S. Price).

Correct Weight was delayed to permit S. Price, rider of ANIVARA, to view the official footage of the concluding stages.
