New Sponsors Announced for Gawler Cup

The Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club is pleased to announce new sponsors for the 2003 Gawler Cup. The Cup will be jointly supported by KFC Gawler and Basic Steel Supplies Gawler. The $20,000 KFC/ Basic Steel Supplies Gawler Cup, to be run over 1950 metres, will be held on Sunday April 6th 2003.

Gary Boscacci from KFC Gawler along with Steve O’Brien from Basic Steel Supplies at Gawler have agreed to come together to sponsor this growing event. Both are well known local identities who are keen to show support for Gawler. Steve has recently joined the Club’s committee. Club Chairman, John McKinnon in announcing the sponsorship acknowledged how pleased the Club was to have the support coming from within the Gawler community.

Further Gawler community support will come from Gawler Gold. The recently appointed group, which has come together to promote Gawler’s businesses, will be throwing its support behind the Gawler Cup Festival. This will include Cup Day, a main street sidewalk sale, a cup eve pub promotion, the Basic Steel Supplies Window Display Competition and the KFC Gawler Cup Street Parade. The Gawler Harness Racing Club will join the Street Parade, as their cup will follow the following Friday night.

On raceday, the off track activities will be headed up by the 5AA Rock & Roll All-stars featuring Graham Cornes. They will ensure a great days entertainment which will also include Fashions on the Field (for both Men & Women), the popular “Kid’s World” with free fun for the children, Clipsal Superscreen, Punters Club with John Letts and plenty of prizes to be won.

Local Gawler Traders will be encouraged to get into the KFC/ Basic Steel Supplies Gawler Cup Festival spirit. They are being encouraged to participate in the Basic Steel Supplies Cup Window Display Competition. The Club will be offering prizes for the best display as well as draws for all entrants. The competition was a good success last year and will be given even more profile this year with the Gawler Gold sidewalk sale to be held on Friday & Saturday April 5 & 6.

The KFC Gawler Cup Street Parade will also form part of the Gawler Gold promotion. It will be held on Saturday April 5 commencing at 11.00am and proceeding down Murray Street.
