South Australian Provincial Clubs Create Steering Committee

At a historic meeting between the Murray Bridge and Strathalbyn Racing Club Committees recently, agreement was reached to form a Joint Project Steering Committee. The two Committees of the race clubs have each appointed representatives to the Project Steering Committee.

The task of the Steering Committee will be to investigate Members wishes on development of joint activities between the two clubs.

One of the options to be canvassed is an eventual amalgamation of the two race clubs.

The meeting also decided to retain the services of IER Strategic, a specialist racing consulting group, to assist with the process.

The initial outcome to be achieved by the Project Steering Committee will be the preparation of a Business Plan that will be provided to the Members of each Club and the industry in general to establish the benefits and opportunities from any partnering arrangement that is established.

Mr. Chris Biggs, Interim Co-ordinator between the two clubs, said: "We have taken a momentous step towards future regional growth that may provide the opportunity to capitalise on our joint strengths."

"The region can become a huge vibrant training centre second to none in the State as leading trainers continue to decentralise their operations from the Metropolitan Areas. The proximity of both Murray Bridge and Strathalbyn to Metropolitan Adelaide gives them a unique opportunity to capture the growing market of racegoers who seek first-class racing in a pleasant clean-and-green rural environment."

"The future growth in racegoers, trainers and facilities will create significant regional economic benefits in employment creation, and lucrative flow-through to help local industries prosper."
