RACE 1 – BENTLEY’S HOTEL / SABIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE – 1200 metres
GOOD TURN (B. Claridge) was slow into stride and raced ungenerously in the middle stages of the race.
Upon jumping away DISTINCT RUBY (M. Neilson) shifted out and inconvenienced BUSIRIS (K. Stra).
Racing near the 1000 metres NEAT LAUREL (S. Price) shifted in, resulting in LENSTRA (J. Maund) being inconvenienced.
STAR REEF (B. Grimston) hung out at the turn situated inside the 700 metres and shifted out, clipping the heels of DISTINCT RUBY (M. Neilson), dipping and losing some ground.
A Veterinary examination of BUSIRIS, subsequent to the event, revealed no visible abnormalities.
RACE 2 – YULETIDE DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE - 1800 metres
A Veterinary examination of BROTHER WINSTON, which struck a fence en route to the barriers, revealed the gelding was fit to start.
RHEET PETITE (D. Tootell) was slow to begin.
Upon jumping away STANSBY (M. Henderson) shifted in, resulting in BROTHER WINSTON (R. Faehr) being tightened onto ACE A HEARTS (B. Vale) and losing its position.
Racing to the winning post on the first occasion BERNINI (J. Maund) commenced to race fiercely and when being eased from the heels of BLAZING GREIG (C. Buchiw), shifted out, taking NIJINSKY PRINCE (B. Grimston) wider on the track.
Correct Weight was delayed to permit B. Grimston, rider of NIJINSKY PRINCE 2nd Placegetter, to view the official Stewards video in the vicinity of the home turn.
R. Faehr, rider of BROTHER WINSTON, was warned in relation using the whip on his mount when it was out of contention.
A Veterinary examination of RHEET PETITE, subsequent to the event, revealed the mare had sustained a minor cut to its off fore leg.
RACE 3 – SMOKE-FREE DISTANCE CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1700 metres
SPURS (C. Lindop) jumped away awkwardly.
JESTER’S EDGE (M. Neilson) was slow to begin.
Racing inside the 1600 metres SPURS (C. Lindop) shifted in, resulting in MAHATMA (B. Vale) having to be eased.
RACE 4 – JIM BARRY WINES DISTANCE CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1700 metres
N. Tomizawa, rider of SAUVIGNON HILL 2nd Placegetter, was fined $200 under ARR 144 when he failed to weigh in subsequent to the event.
A Veterinary examination OF STELAW, subsequent to the event, revealed the gelding had a bruised off fore heel.
RACE 5 – CLARE HOTEL / SABIS FILLIES & MARES CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100 metres

RACE 6 –SUNSMART CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 1100 metres
On jumping away POWER FROM PORT (B. Vale) shifted in, making contact with STOCKADE BOY (C. Lindop), who in turn shifted in, making contact with HEARTEN’S MAGIC (M. Neilson).
RACE 7 – ALCOHOL GO-EASY CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1200 metres
The start of this race was delayed owing to BUICK having to be resaddled behind the gates and also HER HONOUR, which became cast in the barriers, undergoing a Veterinary examination, which revealed the mare was not fit to start. As a result HER HONOUR was a late withdrawal at 4.07 p.m.
Stewards ruled that all monies invested on
HER HONOUR be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid
on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN 16 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE 14 cents in the dollar.
SP bets are subject to the deductions.
RACE 8 – A CLARE CHRISTMAS MAIDEN PLATE – 1100 metres
W. Kerford was examined by St. John’s Personnel prior to this event and ruled fit to ride after he was indisposed earlier in the day.
On jumping away FROM THE GARDEN (D. Tootell) shifted in and inconvenienced MOI (W. Kerford).
FUTURE EVENT (B. Claridge) showed a tendency to hang out in the vicinity of the 500 metres for a short distance.
