In the vicinity of the 500

J. Bowditch, the rider of
ROMANOUS JEWEL, explained that although the gelding became agitated whilst being loaded,
he was pleased with the way the horse had travelled and relaxed inside the 1200 metres. He stated that although ROMANOUS JEWEL continued to
travel well until the 800 metres, shortly afterwards he became concerned and despite his
riding, his mount failed to respond inside the 600 metres.
Mr. D. Clarken, the trainer of ROMANOUS JEWEL, explained that he had been
confident about the gelding’s chances prior to the race and was disappointed with its
efforts to the extent he will discuss with the owners the option of spelling the gelding. ROMANOUS JEWEL was examined by the Club’s

Near the 1000 metres CREST

The start of this race was

Surgeon and ruled unfit to start. Acting on
that advice, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of DIMNESS at 4.31 pm.
Stewards
ruled that all monies invested on DIMNESS be refunded.
Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the
face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a
WIN -
5 cents in the
dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 6 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are subject to the deductions.
Mr. K. Sweeney, the trainer of DIMNESS,

taken against it.
EXALTED LAD, which was in an adjoining

Near the 100 metres VIGNOR (A. Spiteri)
became awkward when reluctant to shift off the heels of SI SENOR (L. Currie).
J. Holder, the rider of TERMINUS
PRINCE, explained that he had been instructed to, and had intended to, ride the gelding
just off the pace as was its normal racing pattern. He
stated that in the early stages there was more pace than he had expected and would have
had to pressure his mount to race further forward. Rather
than pressure TERMINUS PRINCE, he had elected to settle where it felt comfortable. J. Holder added he had been content to follow DEVIL
IN DISGUISE (T. Creek) in running, however, he considered this had worked against his
chances inside the 600 metres when that runner had not improved into the race as he had
expected. After entering the straight he
confirmed that he had not obtained clear running as a result of being obliged to ease off
heels on two occasions. TERMINUS PRINCE was
examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding had a lower than
expected heart rate.

: HONDA JAZZ HANDICAP - 1200

Shortly after the start

Near the 1000 metres
DEFIANT (C. Lindop) shifted in onto GUCCI GURU (NZ) (C. Buchiw) taking that filly in onto
SLICK MAGIC (Darren Holland), which was tightened onto BLUE VENTURE (J. Lyon), and obliged
to steady and lose its position. The Stewards
considered there were extenuating circumstances and no action was taken.

TROLL, reported that, in his opinion, his mount was short in its stride over the
concluding stages of the race. TROLL was
examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.
