New Sponsor and 50% Stakes Increase for Millicent Cup

The Millicent Racing Club are pleased to announce a new sponsor for the 2003 Millicent Cup. It will be known as the Scott Group of Companies Millicent Cup and will carry a stake of $15,000, up 50% on last years Cup of $10,000. This years Cup will also include $810.00 in trophies.

The President, Mr Peter Burdon, is obviously proud of the giant steps forward that the Club has taken over the past three years and with the input of Mr A.A (Allan) Scott through the Scott Group of Companies, the Club is confident that this years Cup Meeting will be the best yet.

The Clubs success lies with a hard working committee and the full support shown by the people of Millicent and its immediate surrounds by attending what is arguably Millicent's biggest annual event. The support races on the day have also benefited with the $9,000 smoke-free Challenge Series, $6,000 Somerset Hotel/Motel Fillies &Mares C3 and all other races hosting a minimum of $5,000 stakes each.

In addition to this are the $11,000 in SABIS bonuses, $8,500 in Stallion Services from Happy Giggle @ Lakewood Stud, Staaraq @ Kenton Valley Park Stud and Campo Caitano @ Glenormiston College, Victoria. There is also $1,800 in trophies offered. All in all $76,300 is up for grabs!

Events leading up to and included on the day are a shop window display in the week leading up to the Cup by most businesses in Millicent, a Fashion Extravaganza put on by local apparel businesses, a Fashions on the Field competition with great prizes sponsored by Wynns Coonawarra and local businesses, a Calcutta on the Friday evening prior to the Cup and a huge "Post-Cup" party at the Somerset Hotel after the last race.

As an added attraction, 1992 Melbourne Cup winner "SUBZERO" will appear on course where he will lead the Cup field out in the capable hands of past leading Limestone Coast jockey Billy Strigg. Subzero will also pose for photographs with big and small kids alike and perform a number of tricks. Entertainment for the children will be provided on course including face painting and a bouncy castle.

So, the place to be on Sunday 4 May is the Scott Group of Companies Millicent Cup at Penola racecourse.
