Kavanagh Pair To Be Spelled

CatapultedThe Mark Kavanagh trained pair of Catapulted and Klitschko will be enjoying time in the spelling paddock after their respective defeats at Morphettville Parks on Boxing Day.

Catapulted started an odds-on favourite in the $70,000 Listed P.D.Excavations Christmas Handicap (1400m) last Saturday but disappointed his followers by finishing sixth, over three lengths from the winner Shekinaar.

Morphettville stable foreman, Sam Kavanagh, notified stewards that since Saturday's race Catapulted had pulled muscles across its back and hindquarters.

As a result, the four-year-old has undergone chiropractic treatment and will be spelled.

Catapulted has had ten starts for six wins and one placing with his prizemoney in excess of $155,000.

Meanwhile Klitschko will also be spelled after he suffered his second straight defeat to Canali in the $26,500 Boag's Draught Handicap (1000m).

Klitschko was beaten by two lengths on debut, but Canali trounced the son of Choisir by over six lengths on Saturday.

Kavanagh told stewards that Klitschko had already undergone a veterinary examination and subsequent arthroscopic surgery to remove a bone chip in the gelding's off knee.
