Saturday's Morphettville Races Report

Jockey Troy Baker was the most successful rider, guiding successive winners to victory, at Morphettville on Saturday.

The first of Baker’s victories came when he steered the $4.60 chance King Of The Sun to a long head win in the 2500 metre third race.

Sired by the Irish bred stallion Desert King from the daughter of Military Plume, Sister Of Sun, King Of The Sun came from a mid-field position and also gave his trainer Mick Whittle the first leg of his double.

King Of The Sun defeated the John Hickmott prepared apprentice Tillie Neve mount Sadayakko $12. The $2.90 fancied one Galileo’s Dream was a length away third for Mark Kavanagh and Simon Price.

Troy Baker rode his second winner when the $12 chance Graskey gave his trainer Sam Burford his first city winner in race four which was run over 1000 metres.

Sired by the American bred horse Grass Wonder from the Melmet mare Key To The Met, Graskey led all the way and defeated the $3 favourite Mr Good Cat for mentor Richard Jolly and rider Chad Lever. Another three quarters of a length away third was the $26 chance Scary Smokovec for Greg Lesnikowski and Michael Hoppo.

Lisa LefoeThe all the way win of Periduki gave trainer Mick Whittle the second leg of his double in the fifth race which was contested over 1200 metres.

Having the services of jockey Paul Gatt and winning by a nose the Perugino sired Periduki $21, from the Snippets mare Miduki, led all the way and beat the Lois Kettle mentored Clare Lindop ridden, last start Morphettville winner, Sir Sienna $10. Gogocanny $6 was a farther two and a quarter lengths away third for Phillip Stokes and Ben Claridge.

Whittle said after the win of Periduki that all the credit of the win of five year old gelding must go to my daughter, Alice Springs based trainer Lisa Lefoe. “I get my instructions from Lisa over the phone as to how she wants Periduki trained,” said Whittle after the race.

After winning on the provincial track of Strathalbyn the Dennis O’Leary prepared Chad Lever ridden Value As was the nose winner of the opening event of 1522 metres.

Starting at $3.80 the Face Value sired Value As, from the Saratoga Springs mare As Discreet, was well placed before going on to beat the $3 punter’s choice, the David Hayes cared for apprentice Billie Egan steered Chartreux.

Last start winner Silent March $6 was a farther one and a quarter lengths away third for Ron Stokes and Ben Claridge.

After failing at Caulfield on Australia Day Chief Of Staff $5 gave trainer Mark Minervini and rider Adrian Patterson a two and a quarter length victory in race two which was contested 1200 metres.

From the breeding partnership of the stallion General Nediym and a daughter of Dehere, Naareda, Chief Of Staff was well placed and beat the David Hayes runner, the Paul Gatt guided Bawaardi $2.90. The $1-80 favourite I’m Discreet was another half head away third for Richard Jolly and Chad Lever.

Millicent mentor Jeremy Kenny and jockey Dominic Tourneur were well pleased with the length win of the $4.20 equal favourite In The Chair in the 1200 metre sixth event. Alkhafif, the other equal favourite, ran fourth.

Sired by Blevic from the Quick Score mare Chesterfield, In The Chair was well placed early before losing his position but gained momentum over the latter stages going on to beat the David Hallilday trained apprentice Kate Dyson mount, the early leader Snaamar $20.

The combination of Kylie Huxtable and Chad Lever were associated with Beltija $6.50 who was another one and a quarter lengths away third.

Jockey Adrian Patterson brought up his second winner for the afternoon when he joined forces with trainer Kerrie Petrick and rode Shout Out Loud $6 to a three quarters of a length win in the 1600 metre seventh race. Part owner Bret Dixon is the chairman of the Darwin Turf Club.

Repeating his winning effort of last week at Morphettville the Ne Coupez Pas sired Shout Out Loud, from the Serheed matron Hit You Kick, was well placed and beat another $6 chance Merlot Now for horse carer Mark Minervini and rider Ryan Plumb. The $2.60 public elect Hastein was another neck away third for Mark Kavanagh and Simon Price.

When asked what plans were in store for Shout Out Loud Kerrie said that the gelding may stay in Adelaide or there is a race at Moonee Valley in two weeks time that may be to his liking.

From the Bluebird mare Bluebird Lady and sired by the Great Britain bred stallion Desert Sun Tordacity was the one and three quarter length winner of the 2028 metre final event for Kyneton trainer Neil Dyer and rider Billie Egan. After being last for the greater part of the journey Tordacity stormed down the outside in the straight and beat the $3.30 favourite, the David Hayes prepared Paul Gatt ridden Sky Journey.

Musty Springs $26 was another two and a quarter lengths away third for John Hickmott and Tillie Neve.

When asked what plans he had for Tordacity Neil Dyer said that he will consult both the SA and Victorian calendars to see what suitable races are around the eight year old.
