Saturday's Morphettville Parks Races Report

Jockey Mark Pegus continued his good association with black type races in Adelaide when he guided the two feature race winners Warm Love and Right Fong to wins on the Parks track at Morphettville on Saturday.

In 2008 Pegus rode his first Group 1 winner when he guided the Gwenda Johnstone trained Shadoways to victory in SA’s premier sprint race the Goodwood Handicap of 1200 metres.

On Saturday Pegus joined forces with Mornington based trainer David Brideoake in the win of Warm Love in listed Blue Sky Thoroughbred Queen Adelaide Stakes of 1000 metres which gave him another black type success and the first leg of a double.

A two year old daughter of Octagonal from the Flying Spur mare Charangas, Warm Love $7 led all the way and recorded a head win over the David Hayes trained Paul Gatt piloted Parisian Sunrise $5. In a busy finish the $2.25 favourite Shrapnel was another half length away third for Mark Kanvanagh and Simon Price.

David Brideoake said after the win of the two year filly Warm Love that she will now be spelled.

Pegus brought up his double when he combined with trainer David Balfour in the three quarters of a length win of the $7 chance Right Fong in the Clean SA listed Port Adelaide Cup of 2250 metres.

After finishing seventh in the 1800 metre Birthday Cup a fortnight ago the Dr Fong sired Right Fong, from Bluedoree a Bluebird mare, came from well back in the field to take the event from the Patrick Payne prepared Matthew Neilson ridden Kerdem $17. Itstheone $5.50 was a farther long neck away third for Mark Kavanagh and Simon Price.

David Balfour said after the win of the six year old that the gelding’s next assignment will the Group 3 2600 metre Boag’s Draught Stakes on February 27 before tackling the Group 2 3200 metre Adelaide Casino Adelaide Cup on Monday March 8.

The training partnership of Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas and their number one stable rider Clare Lindop were well pleased with the one and three quarter length win of the $3 chance Bella’s Bro in the 1550 metre opening event.

From a Snippets mare Nobellcove and fathered by Danzero Bella’s Bro was an all the way winner and beat Naratel $6.50 for horse carer Phillip Stokes and jockey Ben Claridge. Lock It In Eddie, the $2 punter’s choice, was a farther three quarters of a length away third for Terry and Karina O’Sullivan and Matthew Neilson.

A product of the pairing of the United States bred horse King Charlemagne and Langtryst, a daughter of the Canadian bred Langfuhr, Hanabananah was the length winner of the 1250 metre second race.

Being the $3.30 favourite and prepared by Mark Minervini with the services of Adrian Patterson, Hanabananah settled down in second position before going back to a slightly better than mid field position and then mustering enough pace once again to go on to beat the Lloyd Kennewell trained Ryan Plumb ridden Amyjaye Power $4-60. The Phillip Stokes trained Ben Claridge ridden Shadrach $13 was a farther one and a quarter lengths away third.

Punters were again on the ball when the David Hayes mentored Paul Gatt ridden Khandura $2.70 was the neck winner of the 1950 metre third race.

A Dubai Destination bay gelding from the Clay Hero mare Khaap, Khandura was always in contention and beat the Gordon Richards prepared, Ryan Plumb mount Marley And Me $4. Bacchus Eagle $4.80 was another length away filling the minor placing for Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas and Clare Lindop.

Trainer Richard Jolly was the first of the Jolly family to meet with success when the Ryan Plumb ridden Goondi $7 was the long neck winner of race five which run over 1400 metres.

Being out of The Pug mare Little Ripa and fathered by the Irish bred stallion Lacryma Cristi, Goondi came from last to record a victory over Archalot $21 for mentor Sharon Hayes and jockey Wayne Kerford. Admiral’s Watch $6 was another head away third for David Balfour and Mark Pegus.

The second of the Jolly training team to stand in the winner’s enclosure was David Jolly when the Matthew Neilson ridden Shekinaar $11 was the half length winner of the 1000 metre sixth race.

A Foxhound mare out of the Devaraja matron Sacagawea, Shekinaar came from well back and beat the Gordon Richards prepared Dwayne Dunn mount Jaalippy, the $3.50 public elect. The Richard Jolly supplied Libby Hopwood ridden Get Set $7 was a long head away third.

Being the winner of two races and finishing third at her last start the Peter Jolly trained Space Star $3.50 gave trainer Peter Jolly a long neck win in the final event of 1250 metres giving the Jolly’s a training treble.

Having the services of apprentice Claudia Lions the three year old daughter of Blevic, from the Quick Score mare Twinkles, Space Star was well placed and beat the Jon O’Connor mentored Matthew Neilson mount Show Bling $26.

The $1.90 favourite Doubt She’s Single was another length away third for Mark Kavanagh and Simon Price.
