Herrmann Ready To Return

Amy HerrmannWhile Libby Hopwood has propelled herself to the top of the 2009/10 Adelaide Jockeys’ Premiership, another leading female apprentice has been forced to bide her time patiently on the sidelines nursing an injury.

But that’s all about to change.

Amy Herrmann will ride at the Murray Bridge trials on Monday morning in the hope of gaining a clearance to ride competitively from TRSA stewards.

She will be required to ride in at least three of the six trials at Murray Bridge later today to be passed fit to ride for Strathablyn on Wednesday where she is already booked to ride Rockin Rapture and Sandhill Lad.

Herrmann has been sidelined since last May after breaking her leg in a trackwork accident at Morphettville.

Riding the David Balfour-trained Fasadina, the mare reared in the air and rolled over on Hermann’s right shinbone.

A plate and pin inserted to aid her recovery is expected to remain in her leg till the end of this year.

Prior to that Herrmann had underlined her ability in the saddle by being crowned Dux of Thoroughbred Racing SA Apprentice Academy twice.

Shortly before the mishap, she partnered Flying Phoenix into fifth in the Group 1 Goodwood (1200m) behind Takeover Target.

Formerly indentured to Michael O’Leary at Mount Gambier and then David Balfour for a period of four years, Herrmann will now be apprenticed to Paula Trenwith who will be best remembered as the former trainer of Nozi.

But her time in the care of Trenwith could be limited as Herrmann has previously expressed her willingness to ride in Victoria if the right opportunity arises.

Herrmann, who has ridden 45 winners from 499 rides in the metropolitan area, will still be able? to claim 1.5kgs in the metropolitan area.
