Jaguar Chases Chairman’s Victory

Promising three-year-old Golden Jaguar will finally get his opportunity to display his staying ability this Saturday in the $70,000 Listed Chairman's TAB Stakes (2014m) at Morphettville.

Trained by Michael Moroney at Flemington, Golden Jaguar should relish the extra trip according to Moroney’s stable foreman Anthony Feroce.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing him race,” Feroce said.

“He’s always shown us that he can stay – he wants to get over ground.

“So he steps up to 2000m on Saturday and he will run very good,” he added.

After breaking his maiden status at his sixth attempt, Golden Jaguar finished a respectable fifth at Caulfield a fortnight ago behind Zantelagh in a 70,000 Three-year-old Handicap (1800m).

All things going well, Golden Jaguar is expected to contest the Group 1 $300,000 South Australian Derby (2500m) at Morphettville on May 2.

By Refuse To Bend, Golden Jaguar is among the oldest Australian progeny of the Irish-bred sire.

He has the opportunity of being Refuse To Bend’s first stakes winner in Australia with only one horse – Ghostnthedarkness trained by Michael Nolan at Toowoomba – the only horse to be stakes placed after finishing third in a Listed two-year-old event at Eagle Farm in December.

Interestingly, Refuse To Bend is the sire of one of Korea’s most talented gallopers with Khaki Halls boasting a record of four wins and four placings from nine starts with over ?134 million in prizemoney.

The dam Love Dust won a two-year-old race at Caulfield on debut and as has produced three foals of which two – including Golden Jaguar – have raced.

Kerilla, a filly by Danroad that was the dam’s other foal to race, finished fourth in the 2009 Group 2 Yallambee Classic (1200m) at Morphettville.
