Goodwood - Final Field & Barriers

Rostova

A near capacity field has been assembled for this Sunday’s $300,000 Group One Distinctive Homes Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville.

Only one previous Group 1 winner, Rostova, is in the final field of 17 released at 10am this morning.

Rostova, who beat Velocitea in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) last month, will renew rivalries with Velocitea this weekend.

To be ridden by Steven King once again, Rostova will start from barrier two while the Mick Price-trained Velocitea will begin from the inside alley.

The Mark Kavanagh-trained Catapulted will be hoping to become the first horse since Boardwalk Angel (1989) to complete the Group 3 DC McKay – Goodwood double in the same season.

A similar imposing historical precedent hovers over the chances of four-year-old mare Very Discreet.

The last start winner of the Listed Oakbank Stakes (1100m) will be hoping to become the first horse since Ambala (1994) to complete the feature race double.

Jason Holder, who rode Ambala some 16 years ago, will partner Blahnik on Sunday.

After his fast-finishing effort behind Good Medicine on Sunday at Flemington, Perturbo will contest the Goodwood with Ben Melham in the saddle chasing his first Group 1 winner.

Other contenders in another typically open Goodwood field include Group 1 placegetter Grand Duels (barrier 13) and the Tony Vasil-trained Maxisun (barrier 15).
