Walters Suspended For Three Weeks

Female apprentice Melissa Walters has been suspended for three weeks after a two month adjourned inquiry was heard at Mount Gambier last Friday.

Despite being required to attend an inquiry into her ride on General Mackintosh in the Childhood Cancer Association Handicap (2150m), Walters left Oakbank racecourse on Saturday, March 13 without the consent of Thoroughbred Racing SA (TRSA) stewards.

Walters pleaded guilty to a charge under rule AR.91 that she left the course without permission from stewards and was suspended from riding in races for three weeks.

Her penalty will commence after this Saturday and will be served concurrently with a suspension she incurred on the first day of the Mount Gambier Gold Cup Carnival last Thursday.

Walters will be free to return from June 19.
