Saturday's Morphettville Races Report

Jockeys Dominic Tourneur and Matthew Neilson turned in top riding performances when they rode doubles at Morphettville on Saturday.

Dominic Tourneur was the first to break the ice when he steered Evenmoreaction $3.60 to a head victory for visiting Mount Gambier trainer Michael O’Leary in the 1600 metre fourth race.

A three year old Blevic sired gelding from the Crested Wave mare Surging Tide Evenmoreaction was never very far off the lead and beat  Artechs $21 for rider Tamara Zanker and horse carer Tim Snelling.

Madlool $7.50 was a farther one and a half lengths away filling the minor placing for Mark Minervini and Damien Robinson.

A half neck win on the part of the David Balfour trained Admiral’s Watch brought up win number two for Dominic Tourneur in  race seven which was run over 1600 metres.

From Private Time, a Private Army mare and fathered by Secret Savings, Admiral’s Watch $6 came from well back to defeat the Sue Murphy prepared Holly McKechnie ridden Racer’s Run $9.  Billy the Brat $4.40 was a farther half neck away third for Darrin Kolpin  and Adrian Patterson.

Jockey Matthew Nielson brought up the first leg of his double when the $3.20 chance Balzoni gave trainer David Balfour a two length win in the 1050 metre sixth race.

Sired by the United States bred Bianmconi from the Euclase mare Lola, Balzoni was mid field when the race took shape and then dropped back a couple of places before mustering enough speed once again to go on to the take the event from the David Jolly trained Michael Hoppo guided Dingane $7.50.  The $18 returned Silent Sophia was another short head away third for William Smart and apprentice Claudia Lions.

Matthew Neilson brought up the second leg of his double when the Jim Smith trained Sivi Soko $5 was the long neck winner of the final event which was contested 1100 metres.

From a daughter of Euclase Lady Marina and sired by Dash for Cash Sivi Soko was well placed and went on to beat A Wee Dram $6-50 for David Balfour and Dominic Tourneur. 

A farther short half head away third was Esprit de Bullet, the $2-70 favourite for Mark Lewis and Jeffrey Maund.

Apprentice Claudia Lions kept up her winning strike rate on horses from the Paul  Beshara stable when she won on the Peter and Erica Dickman part owned Good Journey two year old gelding, from the Perugino mare Madame Flurry, in the opening event 1100 metres.

Coming from last on the home turn the $9 returned Happy Trails gave Lions her fifth win from seven rides for trainer Paul Beshara.

Winning by margin of one and a quarter lengths Happy Trails beat the Phillip Stokes mentored Libby Hopwood guided Don’s In Charge $3.80.   The $2.60 punter’s elect Tropic Thunder was and a long neck away third for Mark Minervini and Simon Price.

In an all female  winning affair the four year old mare Alpharari $4.40 gave her Moe trainer Allison Bennett and rider Holly McKechnkie a length win in the 1200 metre second race.

Part owned by Bennett the Distant Music sired Alpharari, from the Magic Ring matron Inner Secrets, came from last to beat Mio Mio $8 for the combination of trainer Richard Jolly and apprentice Libby Hopwood.

The John Vandermyle trained Ben Claridge ridden Starlite $6 was a farther half head away third.

Starting at the odds of $5 after opening at $6 Yes Sir Yes Sir gave trainer Mark Kavanagh and jockey Simon Price a half length win in  race three which was contested over 1200 metres.

From a Rory’s Jester mare Excitant and sired by the United  States bred entire Anabaa Yes Sir Yes Sir came from a mid field position to beat the Rod Douglas mentored Holly McKechnie guided Paris Memory $12.

Zip Pleasure $9 was a farther one and a half lengths away third for John Hyam and Troy Baker.

The combination of Cranbourne horse carer Michael Hibbs and jockey Adrian Patterson were well pleased with the three quarters of a length win of Validator in the fourth race which was run over 2030 metres.

Sired by the French bred Val Royal from Bridget’s Daughter, a Best Western mare, Validator $6.50 was well placed and beat the Colin Little prepared Simon Price mount Port Vell, the $2.60 popular elect.  The last start winner Musty Springs $7 was a neck away third for John Hickmott and apprentice Jordon Frew.
