Wednesday's Strathalbyn Races Report

Trainer John Macmillan started the day off well for the local racing community when his charge Silver Sun was the length winner of the 2050 metre opening event at Strathalbyn on Wednesday.

With the services of Tamara Zanker the Urgent Request fathered Silver Sun $6 out of the Snaadee mare Chile Dancer raced well throughout and, being no farther back than fourth, went on to beat the Dennis MacMahon trained apprentice Claudia Lions guided Shiawase, the $2.60 favourite.

Rawlaw $7 was another two and a quarter lengths away third for Kristy Oyarzun and Michael Hoppo.

Having his twenty second start the four year old gelding Roll On Bert $6 recorded his first win when he greeted the judge with a nose to spare in the 1600 metre second race.

Being under the care of John Dunn with jockey Matthew Neilson in the saddle the Statue of Liberty sired Roll on Bert, from the Scenic mare Carmenesque, began well but dropped back through the field before mustering enough speed once again to go on to beat the Bart Merrall trained Chad Lever piloted $6 chance Final Analysis.

David Jolly and his apprentice Claudia Lions ran third with Althorp $5 who was a farther one and a quarter lengths away.

Leading apprentice Libby Hopwood teamed with horse carer Gordon Richards in the length victory of Sunsetter in race three which was contested over 1350 metres.

From the Stargazer mare Picalilli Star and sired by the American bred imported stallion Mugharreb, Sunsetter $8 was well placed and beat the one time leader Casual Will $31 for trainer Lucy Tootell and jockey Adrian Patterson.

The Gillian Davey trained Kate Dyson ridden Curaca Hill $31 was a long neck away third.

Trainer John Hyman and jockey Troy Baker were all smiles after the nose win of Zip Express $26 giving his sire Statue Of Liberty his second success of the day in the 1200 metres fourth event.

From Add Silk, a Sillery mare, Zip Express came from a mid field position and beat Noble Charger $4.20 for the combination of mentor David Jolly and rider Justin Potter. The $6 returned He’s a Houndog was a farther half length away filling the minor placing for Barry Brook and Jordon Frew.

After an opening quote of $5 was on offer before starting at $8 the five year old mare Call Centre gave her sire Urgent Request his second win of the day in the 1350 metre fifth race.

From the Total Look mare Lois Emily and being under the care of Ken Sweeney with the services of the stable apprentice Tillie Neve in Heat 1 of the SA Tab Apprentice Challenge Series, Call Centre came from well back and defeated the apprentice Omer Ay steered Susan Nolan prepared Devasent $7.

The $9 chance O’Reilly’s Son was a half head away filling the minor placing for Richard Jolly and his apprentice Libby Hopwood.

Having her third race-day outing the promising three year filly Beldara brought up win number two for her trainer David Jolly and his apprentice Claudia Lions in race six which was run over 1100 metres.

The $2-80 favourite, the first of only two favourites to win on the day, was sired by Belvic from the Cogitate mare New Idea, and was well placed and beat the Brian Mueller charge, the Ben Claridge mount Our Lara $5 by three and three quarter lengths.  Mean Jean $11 was a father half head away third for Fred Meuring and Matthew Nielson.

Belle Addiction made it two wins in three weeks for Gawler trainer Trevor Saltmarsh and rider Matthew Neilson in the second distance event for the day, the 2050 metre seventh race. 

Starting at $4-20 the Blevic sired Belle Addiction from the Keltrice mare Keltrita came from a midfield position to record a long neck win over the Judy Potts trained Cluadia Lions ridden Kellerman $7.

A farther one and a half lengths away third was the $21 chance Mytika for Simon Bates and Ben Claridge.

Punters had their second win of the afternoon when the $4-40 favourite Racine’s Ruby gave her trainer William Smart and jockey Simon Price a long neck win in the final event of 1600 metres. 

Sired by Rubiton from the Woodman mare Andromaque, Racine’s Ruby  was well positioned and beat the Georgina Henderson trained Libby Hopwood ridden Adam’s Peak $51.

Hidden Tears $61 was a farther three quarters of a length away third for Danny Penna and Jeffrey Maund.
