Price Has Numbers On His Side

Simon Price has numbers on his side as he tries to bridge the gap on Chad Lever in the Adelaide jockeys' premiership.

Price has six rides - the most of the three jockeys in serious contention for the title - at Morphettville on Saturday.

Lever, the defending champion, has three rides while apprentice Libby Hopwood has been restricted to two mounts.

With 45 winners, Lever leads Hopwood by 2-1/2 wins with Price a further half-win behind.

In a photo-finish, Lever snatched the 2008-2009 premiership from Price on the last day of the season.

A similar result could easily unfold this year.

"There are only two meetings left so it's a ticklish situation for everyone involved," Price's manager Mal James said.

Lever edged closer to successive titles with a winner last Saturday.

Among Price's Saturday book is a mount for Melbourne trainer Colin Little.

Palatine will be making his Australian debut after winning two races from a nine starts in New Zealand.

The four-year-old, who runs in the McMahon Services Handicap (1250m), hasn't raced since winning at Ellerslie on January 31 with Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman in the saddle.
