Potter Hospitalised From Nasty Fall

Jockey Justin Potter was taken to hospital for observation after his mount Tradesman’s Choice dramatically fell in the $30,000 Tapestry Wines Hurdle (3200m) at Morphettville Parks on Saturday.

Potter, who rides on the flat and the jumps, was partnering the nine-year-old gelding for the fourth consecutive occasion after his previous three starts produced a win and two seconds.

However it all came brutally unstuck at the third last hurdle approaching the 800 metre mark when Tradesman’s Choice cleared the fence with three legs. A trailing leg appeared to clip the obstacle.

The son of Fraar and Potter were sent sprawling into the turf with Tradesman’s Choice suffering fatal injuries in the incident. He was humanly euthanised shortly after.

Saturday’s hurdle was Tradesman’s Choice 18th jumps race and 120th start overall. He earned connections $393,905 over a career that commenced in January 2003 with a two-year-old trial at Cheltenham.

Potter left Morphettville in the back of the ambulance with a bout of concussion.

The fall somewhat overshadowed the win from Man Of Class, who can lay claim to be an exciting jumping prospect after his agonising defeat last start on debut over the hurdles behind Grizz and Sallum prior to Saturday’s 4-3/4 length victory.

Trained by Ciaron Maher at Warrnambool, Man Of Class has trialled twice over the modular fences in Victoria.

Formerly trained by Daniel Clarken, the son of With Class could return to Adelaide in a fortnight’s time for a feature hurdle race on Irish Day.
