Final Shot At Glory For Nuvolari

Nuvolari

Saturday’s South Australian Grand National Steeplechase (3500m) winner Nuvolari will have one more start before retirement.

The eleven-year-old son of Aliocha will run in Sunday’s $150,000 Victorian Grand National Steeplechase (4530m) at Sandown Hillside.

Trainer Michael Trinder said Nuvolari’s future was bleak when jumps racing almost came to an abrupt end.

"This horse was finished when it looked like jumps racing was all over a couple of years back," Trinder told The Advertiser.

"Now he'll have one more run before finding a paddock for life, and that's the way it should be."

Nuvolari finished fifth two starts back at Warrnambool in the Crisp Steeplechase behind Tarawera however it was his late-closing effort at Sandown in an open steeplechase behind Juan Carlos three starts ago that Trinder will take most encouragement from.

Nuvolari & Trent WellsTrent Wells has ridden Nuvolari at his past three victories but will relinquish the reins on the Tasmanian-galloper for this Sunday’s warm favourite Tarawera.

Boasting a record of 12 wins from 68 starts, Nuvolari has accumulated $174,792 in prizemoney.

Of that, $134,630 has been registered over the jumps with an impressive record of eight wins and five placings from 21 starts.
