Saturday's Morphettville Races Report

Man Of ClassIt was a day to remember for apprentice Lauren Stojakovic when she rode her first city double in back to back races at Morphettville on Saturday.

Riding for Strathalbyn based mentor Brian Mueller, the first leg of Stojakovic’s double was the $6 chance Just Sybil the long neck winner of the 1200 metre seventh race.

Claiming three kilograms off the allotted weight of 53.5 kg the Alannan sired Just Sybil, from the Opera Prince mare Opera Symbol, led all the way.

Just Sybil defeated the John Vandermyle trained Adrian Patterson ridden Starlite $6. The $14 chance Silver Raven was another length away third for Shane Coombs and Troy Baker.

The shot neck victory of the More Than Ready sired Valoroso $7 gave Lauren Stojakovic her second winner in the 1200 metre final event.

From the Sallieri matron Susan and being under the care of Simon Casey Valoroso came from the middle of the field and beat the Fred Meuring trained Troy Baker ridden Mean Jean $13.  Testate $4.20 was a farther head away third for the combination Stuart Padman and Ben Claridge.

NuvolariThe Victorian stables Michael Trinder and Cairon Maher supplied both the Grand Nation winners. 

Having the services of Trent Wells the Michael Trinder prepared Nuvolari $7 was the short neck winner of the 3500 metre Grand National Steeplechase.

From the Raami sired mare I’m A Guest and fathered by the American bred Aliocha, Nuvolari, who will now contest next Sunday’s Victorian Grand National Steeplechase at Sandown, came from near last and recorded the win over the Terry and Karina O’Sullivan prepared Last Shogun $3.  Ballysteen $31 was another twelve lengths away third for Paul Lafferty and Gavin Bedggood.

Eleven and three quarter lengths was the margin of the Cairon Maher prepared Steven Pateman mount Man Of Class when the seven year old took out the 3500 metre Grand National Hurdle.

A With Class gelding from the Defensive Play mare Lizmania Man Of Class led all the way and beat the John A O’Connor mentored Arron Lynch ridden Cash Advance $31.  Another O’Connor runner Sallum $4-80, with Adam Trinder in the saddle was a farther five and three quarter lengths away third.

HollowleaMan Of Class is likely to return to Morphettville in a fortnight and run in the 3200 metres Australia versus Ireland Hurdle.

The Stawell father and daughter mentoring duo of Terry and Karina O’Sullivan started the day off well when the three year old colt Hollowlea greeted the judge with a half head to spare in the 1200  metre opening event.

Starting the $3.20 equal favourite with the fourth placed last start Strathalbyn winner Little Akie, the Hidden Dragon sired Hollowlea, from the Scenic mare Cabaret Girl, raced mid field and went on to beat the $7 returned Fashion Wah Wah for co trainers Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas and jockey Clare Lindop. 

The $201 shot Kuitpo Blaze was a farther one and three lengths away third for Roslyn Day and Adrian Patterson.

When asked what plans he had for Hollowlea co trainer Terry O’Sullivan said that the colt will contest a 1200 metre listed three year old race at Moonee valley on August 22.

Maestro Of MuranoStarting at the odds of $10 Maestro of Murano broke an eight month losing streak and gave his trainer Roslyn Day and rider  Shayne Cahill a three and a half length win in race three which was contested over 2006 metres.

A five year old gelding sired by the United States bred entire Bianconi and mothered by the Lucky Ring sired Talent Lover having his fourteenth race day outing Maestro Of Murano led all the way and defeated the Richard Jolly cared for and his apprentice Libby Hopwood steered Woodland Jack the $2.45 punter’s choice.

Solander $4.40 was a farther one and three quarter lengths away, filling the minor placing for Peter Gelagotis and apprentice Nathan Rose.

The breeding partnership of Lion Hunter and She’s  God’s Gift, a Keltrice mare, produced the one and three quarter length winner of the 1050 metre fifth race Immortality.

ImmortalityTrained by Mick  Whittle and having the services of Troy Baker Immortality jumped well  and then settled in third placing before taking the lead in the straight and going on to defeat the Jon O’Connor mentored apprentice Kate Dyson mount Court Bell $6.

Falvelon’s Dream $6.50 was another nose away third for Kerrie McAnulty and apprentice Claudia Lions.

The two and a quarter length win of the $5.50 chance Rocky Camp saw his Mount Gambier based trainer Richard Wilson and jockey Matthew Neilson standing in the winner’s circle after the running of the 1600 metre sixth race.

From the Provideo mare Lady Intent and sired by Monde Bleu Rocky Camp settled in the back half of the field before going on to beat the Mick Whittle prepared Justin Potter ridden Jutland $8.50.

The $8 returned Finniss Storm was another one and three quarter lengths away third for John Hyam and Troy Baker.
