JRA Cup For Alcopop

AlcopopAlcopop shot to prominence following his victory in last year’s Listed JRA Cup (2040m) at Moonee Valley.

The same race this year will be used to restore his once lofty reputation.

Alcopop has struggled in four starts – two in Sydney and two in Adelaide - since starting favourite and finishing sixth in last year’s Melbourne Cup (3200m).

Saturday’s disappointing ninth placing of 12 starters in the $80,000 Listed Tokyo City Cup (1600m) at Morphettville has seen Alcopop’s price balloon out in pre-post markets to $41 for the Caulfield Cup and $61 for the Melbourne Cup with TAB Sportsbet.

"He seems OK (on Sunday) and, so long as there aren't any problems, we'll push on to the JRA Cup,” Stephens told The Advertiser.

“From there, all things going well, I might even try and get another run in him before the Caulfield Cup.”

Stephens however stressed that should he discover something amiss with Alcopop that he would have no hesitation in terminating his spring preparation.
