Wednesday's Balaklava Races Report

The combination of trainers Leon Macdonald, his co trainer-son in law Andrew Gluyas and their number one stable jockey Clare Lindop struck early when they won the first two races at Balaklava on Wednesday.

Starting at $3.60 the Dubai Destination five year old sired Sultan Of Speed, from the Noble Bijou mare Noble Deed, came from a mid field position to defeat the Graham Fryer prepared apprentice Lauren Stojakovic ridden Miyako Princess, the $3.20 favourite, by two and three quarter lengths in the opening event of 2200 metres.

The one time leader West Ho $10 was another two lengths away third for Ron Daniel and Dominic Tourneur.

Sired by the American bred entire Anabaa from the Jeune matron Jameela and starting the $2.80 equal favourite with the third placegetter Clos De Tart for David Hayed and Paul Gatt Signoret was the second winner for the Macdonald/Gluyas/Lindop combination.

After coming from third Signoret recorded a three and three quarter length win over Better Ark Up $4.80 for horse carer Scott Trenowden and rider Matthew Neilson.

Clare Lindop brought up a trio of wins when she joined with mentor Phillip Stokes in the three and a half lengths win of $1.50 pubic fancy Next Top Model in the 1200 metre fourth race.

From the Bellotto mare Autumn Belle and fathered by the United States bred entire Royal Academy, Next Top Model came from second and beat the John Macmillan mentored Simon Price guided Highland Dancer $5. Classic Cameo $5 was a farther three quarters of a length away third for David Hayes and Paul Gatt.

Jockey Dominic Tourneur brought up the first leg of his back to back wins when he steered the Dennis O’Leary produced Valuabelle to a head win in race seven which was run over 1200 metres.

Sired by Face Value out of the Chanteclair mare Nervola Belle, Valuabelle Belle, the $2.20 favourite, came from a mid field position and beat Montana Sagrada for jockey Paul Gatt and mentor Lloyd Kennewell.

Starting the $2.60 second public elect Tuscan Wonder was a farther two and three quarter lengths away third for Kirsten McGowan and Simon Price.

Dominic Tourneur brought up his double when the Ken Sweeney trained Bigbadbarrry the $2.20 favourite was the two length winner of the final event which was run over 1050 metres.

From the Zoffany matron Hungry Lass, the Stargazer sired Bigbadbarry was well back early and stormed down the outside late in the race to beat the Sharon Hayes mentored Wayne Kerford guided Sniploch $4.60. Karimabad $6 was a short neck away filling the minor placing for Paul Sandford and Tamara Zanker.

Sired by Taos from the Star Way mare Dream Star, Hollywood Dream $3.20 gave the six year old’s trainer Daniel J Clarke and rider Damien Robinson a one and a quarter length win in race three which was contested over 1050 metres.

Being handy to the lead throughout Hollywood Dream defeated the Matthew Neilson guided Dion Koch prepared Chilli Diva, the $2.20 public choice. Shanpanichi $4.40 was another two and three quarter lengths away third for Sam Burford and Troy Baker.

A length winning margin recorded by Lindea $3.60 saw trainer Jim Smith and jockey Simon Price in the winner’s enclosure after the running of race five which was contested over 1400 metres.

From the daughter of the New Zealand sire El Qahira, Linaria and farthered by Danzero, Lindera came from fourth and beat the Dennis O’Leary mentored Troy Baker mount Saclairblur $5-50. Visual Impact, the $2-60 favourite, was a farther long head away third for Jordan Frew and Ken Sweeney.

Apprentice Libby Hopwood joined forces with trainer Bill Bogarts in the 1600 metre sixth race when Swoopy Coupe was the neck winner. From the Made of Gold mare Gold Patriot and sired by Desert King, Swoopy Coupe was well placed and beat the Leon Macdonald/Andrew Gluyas trained Clare Lindop ridden Wild Manners, the $1-80 Favourite.

A farther half neck away third was Tosstheresta $8-50 for Paul Beshara and Shayne Cahill.
