Wednesday's Strathalbyn Races Report

Back to back winners were the order of day with local trainers Dion Koch and Jake Stephens sharing the honours with the mentoring combination of Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas who started the trend when they led in the first two winners at Strathalbyn on Wednesday.

The four trainers were aided in their wins by jockeys Matthew Neilson and Clare Lindop who brought up doubles in successive races.

Having the services of rider Matthew Neilson the $2.50 favourite Chilli Deva gave trainer Dion Koch a three quarters of a length win in race five which was run over 1200 metres.

From the Blevic mare Twisted Dream and sired by Akhadan Chilli Diva held a mid field position before going on to beat the Paul Beshara prepared Dominic Tourneur guided Shoorwin $2.60.

The $12 returned Kotor was a farther one and three quarter lengths away third for Stuart Padman and Shayne Cahill.

Chilli Diva will have her next race in a 0-62 rating event over 1400 metres on the Parks track at Morphettville on November 4.

Matthew Neilson brought up his second winner when he guided the Jake Stephens trained Roll Of The Dice $4 to a one and a half length win in the sixth event which was contested over 1100 metres.

Fathered by Face Value out of the daughter of Southern Appeal, Social Cyclone, Role Of The Dice was in the leading division throughout and beat Dion Koch cared for Justin Potter mount Vinard the $3.80 public elect.

Starting at $41 Master Pickles was a farther one and a half lengths away third for Mick Whittle and David Tootell.

Jake Stephens said that he will look for a race in town for Roll Of The Dice while the star of the stable Alcopop will have his next start in the Group 1 LKS MacKinnon Stakes of 2000 metres at Flemington on October 30.

The trainer partnership of Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas along with Clare Lindop landed the first of their back to back winners when the $1.55 punter’s choice Lalla Rookh scored a three and a half length win in the 2050 metre opening event.

From the Grand Lodge matron Grand Manners and sired by the Irish bred Street Cry, Lalla Rookh settled well and, taking full advantage of a rails run just before the home turn, went on to beat and Macdonald/Gluyas trained apprentice Scott Westover ridden L’Inquisitor $9. Miss Halliaday $7was a farther four and a half lengths away third for Daryl Reynolds and Wayne Kerford.

Punters continued their early success when Novasaruus $1-65 gave trainers Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas and rider Clare Lindop a one and a quarter length victory in race two which was run over 1600 metres.

A four year old Testa Rossa mare from Nova Clause, a Weasel mare, Novasaurus came from well back and beat the Heather and Kevin Frew mentored apprentice Jordon Frew ridden Kievan Rus $18. Crayons $71 was a farther head away filling the minor placing for Dion Koch and Justin Potter.

Budriguez $3-70 gave Goolwa based horse carer David Jolly and rider Paul Gatt a one and a half length win in the final event of 1350 metres.

Fathered by Al Maher from the St.Covet matron Deni, Budriguez cames from fourth and defeated the $7 returned Million Bucks for Jordon Frew and the training partnership of his mother and father Heather and Kevin Frew. Gold Vintage $16 was another long head away third for Barry Ewen and Adrian Patterson.

The long neck win of Golden Penny, the $2.35 favourite, gave punters their third win of the day in race three which was run over 1100 metres.

Cared for by Richard Jolly and having his apprentice Libby Hopwood in the saddle the Blevic fathered Golden Penny, out of the Danehill Dancer mare Miss Moula came from a mid field position to beat the Mark Kavanagh mentored Todd Pannell ridden Dubai Me Diamonds $6. Lightburgh $31 was a farther two and three quarter lengths away third for David Hayes and Paul Gatt.

Both the winner Golden Penny and the runner up Dubai Me Diamonds will progress to races in town with Golden Penny’s mentor Richard Jolly saying that he will look a suitable race for the filly while Mark Kavanagh said that Dubai Me Diamonds will have her next run on the Parks track on November 4.

The three quarters of a length win of the Stratum sired Protector, the $1.90 favourite, gave punters their fourth outright success in the 1350 metre fourth event.

Winning by a margin of three quarters of a length and being from the Rory’s Jester mare Risky Banter the Tony McEvoy prepared Protector was an all the way winner and beat the John Thompson mentored Chad Lever ridden Inaction $4.

Power To Possess $51 was a farther three quarters of a length away third for Bill Bogarts and Michael Hoppo.

Starting at $8 Lord Of The Song gave his trainer John Croucher and jockey Jeffrey Maund a two and a quarter length win in the seventh event which was contested over 2050 metres.

A Song Of Tara gelding from Deep Time, a Kinjite mare, Lord Of The Song came from a mid field position and defeated the Greg Lesnikowski trained Simon Price ridden Sturgis $14. Forez $17 was another two and a half lengths away third for Jordon Frew and Peter Moody.
