RACE 1 – HARRY T DWYER MEMORIAL / SABIS FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE – 1100 metres

RARE NICKEL was withdrawn by Stewards at 8.10 a.m., acting on confirmed advice from the Trainer, Mrs. H. Lehmann), that the mare was lame in the off hind leg.

MAGIC WAVE stood in the gates and on jumping veered out abruptly and commenced to buck, dislodging C. Lindop. Mr. J. Bryant, Trainer of MAGIC WAVE, was advised the mare was now suspended from racing until it could perform tractably in an organised Barrier Trial, prior to accepting for a future event.

WHO’S RELATED (M. Neilson) got its head up and raced ungenerously in the vicinity of the 900 metres and again at the 500 metres.

HIGH GAZER suffered a bi-lateral bleeding attack during the event. Mr. S. Turner, Trainer of HIGH GAZER, was advised the mare was now banned from racing for a period of three months in accordance with ARR 53 A.

C. Lindop was ruled unfit to fulfil her remaining engagements and transported to the Bordertown Hospital for precautionary x-rays.

RACE 2 – TRADELINK / DUX / SABIS C, G & ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE – 1100 metres

In the vicinity of the 500 metres AMIROVITCH (S. Harrison), which was inclined to race keenly, clipped the heels of FATE NO MORE (H. McKechnie) and became unbalanced for a short distance.

Near the 200 metres FATE NO MORE (H. McKechnie) was obliged to ease off the heels of GLORY GAZER (M. Neilson), which shifted in.

Correct Weight was delayed to permit M. Neilson, rider of GLORY GAZER the 4th Placegetter, to view the official footage of the concluding stages.

RACE 3 – TATIARA TRUCK & TRAILERS MAIDEN PLATE – 1300 metres

An announcement was made that the correct distance for this event was 1300 metres, and not as shown in the race book.

The start of this event was delayed owing to GO GODDEN (P. Marks) proving difficult to load in the barriers. Mr. S. Harris, Trainer of GO GODDEN, was advised the gelding would be suspended from racing and required to be loaded satisfactorily in an organised Barrier Trial before accepting for a future event.

NARISSA (D. Missen) was eased out of the race in the vicinity of the 1100 metres. D. Missen reported to Stewards he was of the opinion his saddle had shifted. Mr. J. Bryant, Trainer of NARISSA, was advised the mare would now be suspended from racing until it could show in an Official Barrier Trial that it could travel unassisted to the start and be competitive, prior to accepting for a future event.

Correct Weight for this event was delayed to permit J. Lyon, rider of MURRAY MAGPIE 3rd Placegetter, to view the official photo-finish.

RACE 4 – JOHN PAYNE TOYOTA DISTANCE CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1900 metres

In the vicinity of the 200 metres on the first occasion, ESPERADO (B. Vale), when being eased across the heels of SOVIET REBEL (H. McKechnie), clipped the heels of that gelding, resulting in B. Vale becoming unbalanced and eventually dislodged. B. Vale was examined by the Club Doctor and ruled fit to fulfil his remaining engagements.

SOVIET REBEL (H. McKechnie) was inclined to race fiercely in the middle stages of the event.

Inside the 600 metres to the entrance of the straight CADDY’S NOVA (C. Puls) was inconvenienced by the riderless ESPERADO.

Correct Weight was delayed to permit W. Kerford, rider of PANNING FOR GOLD 2nd Placegetter, to view the official photo-finish print.

H. McKechnie, rider of the 4th Placegetter SOVIET REBEL, was questioned regarding her failure to weigh in as required. She was found guilty of a breach of ARR 144 and fined $100.

A Veterinary examination of ZIPGAZER, subsequent to the event, revealed the mare was lame in the near side fore leg.

RACE 5 – BUNDABERG RUM CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1300 metres

Near the 900 metres FLICK’S IMAGE (W. Kerford) was forced to check off the heels of POWER FROM PORT (J. Lyon), which shifted in. In being restrained FLICK’S IMAGE got its head up. KING’S HAVEN (D. Tootell), which was racing immediately behind FLICK’S IMAGE, was severely hampered in consequence. J. Lyon was found guilty of a charge of Careless Riding under ARR 137(a) and suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight Thursday 19th December 2002, and to expire at midnight on Friday 27th December 2002. A period of four meetings. In determining this penalty Stewards took into consideration that the period included two Metropolitan race meetings.

RACE 6 – WOOLSHED INN BORDERTOWN CUP – 1900 metres

C. Bryant was dislodged from SOVEREIGN COURT at the barriers. C. Bryant was examined by the Club Doctor and ruled fit to ride.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, KASHA MOON (S. Harrison) commenced to race keenly.

CLAYTONDYER (C. Puls) ran off making the turn out of the straight.

COSIPURA (P. Marks) got its head up and raced ungenerously in the middle stages of the race.

Near the 900 metres DHOLIMA’S DAUGHTER (B. Claridge) was inconvenienced by SPIRIT OF DEMUS (K. Post), which laid in.

RACE 7 – TATIARA MEAT CO. CHRISTMAS HANDICAP – 1100 metres

KING’S CHOICE (D. Tootell) was slow away.

On jumping away GRAND MANSION (H. McKechnie) was inconvenienced by the inside gate, which swung back, which resulted in the gelding shifting out, inconveniencing BRINKLEY LASS (D. Cleaver), which shifted in.

Near the 600 metres GENERAL WINFIELD (NZ) (W. Kerford) was obliged to steady off the heels of BRINKLEY LASS (D. Cleaver), which lost ground momentarily.

D. Oakford, rider of the winner MOST ELEGANT, was reprimanded for shifting in and tightening runners after passing the winning post, while making a celebratory gesture.

RACE 8 – MCKENZIE INTERMODAL / SABIS CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100 metres

CAPALLIN (C. Bryant) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, inconveniencing STAR TUNE (W. Kerford) and MAYBE AMELIA (C. Puls), which was also tightened by BRIANNA BLONDIE (D. Cleaver), which shifted in.

At the entrance to the straight PASSION PLAY (M. Neilson) was taken out onto CAPALLIN (C. Bryant) by CHAMPAGNE FINALE (B. Neville).

Near the 200 metres PASSION PLAY (M. Neilson), which was inclined to lay out, shifted out and brushed CAPALLIN (C. Bryant).

Approaching the finish PASSION PLAY (M. Neilson) again shifted out and brushed CAPALLIN (C. Bryant).

Correct Weight was delayed to permit C. Bryant, rider of the 2nd Placegetter CAPALLIN, to view the official footage in the straight. After doing so C. Bryant lodged an objection against the winner PASSION PLAY (M. Neilson), on the grounds of alleged interference in the straight. After considering the evidence, acting on their own observations and viewing the official film, Stewards dismissed the objection.
