Saturday's Morphettville Races Report

Jockey Todd Pannell got into the action scoring the first leg of a double when he joined with trainer David Hayes when the five year old Juene mare Journey was the length winner of the opening event of 2014 metres at Morphettville on Saturday.

From the Rory’s Jester mare Hasty Jest and being backed from $3 out to $3.70 Journey was well placed and beat the $2.50 favourite Down Under Boy for the co-training partnership of John Symons and Sheila Laxson along with rider Stephen Vella.

Musty Springs $21 was another three quarters of a length away third for John Hickmott and Damien Robinson.

Backed from $2 out to start the $2.20 public elect the Mark Kavanagh mentored Mushatta was the two and a quarter length winner of the 1200 metre second race and gave apprentice Billy Egan the first leg of a double.

From Sandy City, a Green Desert mare and fathered by the New Zealand sire Zabeel, Mushatta was well placed and beat the David Jolly cared for and his apprentice Claudia Lions ridden Zirconi Aspen $4.80. Trust In Magic $10 was a farther one and three quarter lengths away filling the minor placing for Rob Wilkinson and Jeffrey Maund.

The three year old colt Impact Point won his second race in succession when he was the two and three quarter length winner of the 1800 metre third race for horse carer John Hickmott and jockey Damien Robinson.

Drifting a point from $4 to $5 the Catbird colt from the Arch Sculptor mare Hopelessly Devoted came from a midfield position to beat the Mick Huxtable trained Chad Lever ridden Smoke ‘Em Billy $3.40 giving the provincial track of Murray Bridge the quinella.

The Leon Macdonald/Andrew Gluyas trained Clare Lindop ridden It’s Home was another nose away third.

Billy Egan brought up his double when he steered the Darren Weir prepared Gotta Keep Cool, backed from $2.20 to start at $2.45, to a two length win in race four which was run over 2600 metres .

A Racer’s Edge gelding from the Luskin Star matron Cellar Dweller, Gotta Keep Cool came from fifth to record a win over the Tony McEvoy cared for Simon Price steered last start winner Tara Man, the $2.30 punter’s choice.

Southern Fortune $26 was a father half length away third for apprentice Libby Hopwood and trainer John Hickmott.

Todd Pannell brought up a riding double when the Street Cry gelding River’s Lane - quoted at $4 after an opening quote of $4.40 was bet - was the four and and quarter length winner of the 1600 metre fifth race giving trainer David Balfour the first leg of a double.

From the Made Of Gold mare Star Maid, River’s Lane led throughout and beat the Leon Macdonald/Andrew Gluyas prepared Clare Lindop mount Bacchus Eagle $8.

Currency Cugat $26 was a farther short neck away third for Kerrie Van Tijin and Amy Herrmann.

Victorian Jockey Matt Pumpa and trainer Paul Seater combined their efforts when the Niello gelding Chunky Custard, from the Danewin mare White Fire, was the head winner of the sixth event which was run over 1050 metres.

Starting at $7.50 after $7 was bet early Chunky Custard took up a mid field position before dropping out to last but was able to muster speed once again to go on to beat the $3.20 public elect Dingane $3-20 for mentor David Jolly and rider Paul Gatt.

Trained by Caulfield based mentor Mick Price and guided to a half length win by Paul Gatt About Ready took out her second black type race in seven weeks in Adelaide when she won the listed City of Marion Stakes which was contested over 1200 metres.

Drifting a point from $5.50 to $6.50 the More Than Ready fathered About Ready, from the Alquoz mare Quiz About, came from well back and beat the Mark Kavanagh prepared Billy Egan mount Rock The Moment $4.80.

Miss With Attitude $6.50 was another three lengths away third for Leon Macdonald/Andrew Gluyas and Clare Lindop.

From the Kailey Senor mare Cante Grande and sired by the Great Britain bred entire Xaar, Taken The Road was the half length winner of the 1050 metre final event and brought up a training double for David Balfour.

Backed from $4 into $5 and coming from well back Taken The Road gave her jockey Todd Pannell his third winner for the afternoon.

Taken The Road beat the Mark Kavanagh mentored Simon Price ridden Flea Flicker $7.

After successfully protesting against Vain Partner, Red Miss $4.40 was placed third, a farther half length away for Richard Jolly and Chad Lever who resumed riding on Saturday after having key hole surgery on an injured knee.
