Saturday's Morphettville Races Report

In winning the Listed Port Adelaide Cup of 2000 metres and greeting the judge in first place for the fourth time at Morphettville Maunatrice chalked up another Adelaide success for apprentice Jacob Rule and his master Darren Weir.

Quoted at $4.60 when the starter sent the field on their way and winning the event by three lengths the Keltrice mare Maunatrice, from the Magic Of Money matron Maunakea, came from well back and defeated the Russell Cameron cared for Dean Holland steered Zauberin $6. The $3.10 favourite Foxham was two lengths away third for Tony McEvoy and Simon Price.

Spokesman for the Weir stable Jeremy Rogers said that Maunatrice may now start in the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes at Morphettville on March 5 while Jacob Rule said he that he was confident throughout the event.

Riding for the Greg Eurell stable jockey Chris Symons chalked up the first leg of a double when Coldens Choice $4.20 was the two and a half length winner of 1800 metre opening event.

From the Nassipour mare Enchanting Style and fathered by Seal Amour, Coldens Choice came from a worse than mid field position and beat the $4 returned Rob Wilkinson prepared Trust In Magic. Delicious Belle $6-50 was a farther four and a half lengths away third for Libby Hopwood and Richard Jolly.

Chris Symons completed his double when the $5.50 chance Caplamp was the three and a half length winner of race four which was contested over 1200 metres.

Under the care of John Thompson and being in the first two throughout the event the General Nediym fathered Caplamp, from Silent Smytzer, a Rory’s Jester mare, beat the $10 returned Michael Hickmott trained Mark Pegus ridden Hillfire.

Starting at $5 Conduction was a farther head away third for Kylie Huxtable and Paul Gatt.

Trainer David Jolly added another victory to his tally of city winners when his charge Ronorik scored a short head victory in the 1200 metre second race giving rider Dean Yendall the first leg of a double.

Starting from barrier seven, returned at $4 and fathered by the Irish bred Honours List from the Marauding mare Bombshell Beauty, Ronorik enjoyed a front running position and beat the David Balfour prepared Rodd Pannell mount A Wee Dram $10. Fast Frank $61 was a farther half head away filling the minor placing for Daniel Clarken and Holly McKechnie.

Rider Dean Yendall brought up his double when the Kylie Huxtable mentored Fantastic Glen, the $3.50 public elect, won the 1600 metre sixth race.

A Fantastic Light sired four year old mare, from the Scenic matron Carlin, Fantastic Glen was well placed and beat Blue Maggich $11 for mentor John Hyam and rider Paul Gatt. Movie Mogul $4-60 was another one and a half lengths away third for Stephen Theodore and Chad Lever.

Favourite punters were on good terms with themselves when the $2.80 returned Chinchilla gave trainer Lee Freedman and jockey Chad Lever a long neck win in the Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes of 1050 metres.

The progeny of Exceed And Excel and Chestnut Star, an Eternity Range matron, Chinchilla began well and, maintaining a forward position, beat the Stuart Gower mentored Ben Hoppo steered last start winner Anythingthatmoves $3.50.

John Thompson and Simon Price shared in the minor placing when Motifs $4.60 was a short half head away third.

Former Magic Millions winner Augusta Proud $9 made a brilliant return to racing when she gave the training partnership of Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas and the stable apprentice Jackson Matthews a length win in the 1050 metre fifth event.

Being the last to leave the barrier the More Than Ready mare from Kadasha, a Langfuhr matron, Augusta Proud stormed home to claim victory over the Stuart Gower mentored Shayne Cahill ridden Morgan Dollar $7.50. The $1.85 public choice Broken was a farther long neck away third for Darren Weir and Jacob Rule.

Joining forces with apprentice Scott Westover trainer Richard Jolly was successful when Mr Good Cat $26 was the length winner of the 1200 metre final race.

From the Slew City Slew mare Rose A Slew the Tale Of The Cat sired Mr Good Cat came from well back and defeated Test Century $10 for mentor Mark Minervini and rider Jackson Matthews. Invincible Diva $5 was another one and a half lengths away third for Mark Kavanagh and Billy Egan.
