Saturday's Morphettville Races Report

Trainer Darren Weir and cross-country rider Tom Logan struck early when Pay The Aces was the six length winner of the opening hurdle race of the year which was run over 3200 metres on the main track at Morphettville on Saturday.

Coming from a midfield position the Northern Drake sired Pay The Aces, from the Tirol mare Alpine Morn, finished much too strongly for the Eric Musgrove prepared Arron Lynch ridden Rabbuka, the $1.90 favourite.

Cash Advance was a farther length away filling the minor placing for John A O’Connor and Patrick Ryan.

From the El Moxie mare Call Me Luv the Tale of the Cat gelding Magnificat gave Murray Bridge trainer Mick Huxtable and rider Paul Gatt a long neck win in the 2500 metre second race.

Starting the $3.40 favourite Magnificat came from well back in the field and beat the Michael Hibbs trained Chad Lever ridden Validator $4.80. The combination of Roslyn Day and apprentice Jordan Frew were associated with Maestro of Murano $7 who was another one and a quarter lengths away third.

Having its first start Shangai Bound $2.05 gave Tony McEvoy and rider Simon Price a one and three quarter length win in race three which was run over 1000 metres. An Immovable Option two year old gelding from the Nonalcoholic mare Fling in Spring Shangai Bound was well placed and beat Have Your Way $2.70.

Mykonos Sunset $8 was a farther two and a half lengths away third for Byron J Cozamanis and Wayne Kerford.

The combination of co-trainers Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas and rider Clare Lindop were successful when L’inquisitor $6 was the half neck winner of the 1950 metre fourth race. Winning her second race from nine starts the Blackfriars three year old filly from Better Than Ever, a Serheed mare, L’inquisitor came from last and beat Yours Thoughts for Chris Nash and rider Dominic Tourneur.

Rialya, the $2.80 public elect, was three quarters of a length away third for Lloyd Kennewell and Shayne Cahill.

Trainer John Thompson brought up the first leg of the quinella when his charge Capland $2 was the three quarters of a length winner of the 1250 metre fifth race.

Conduction $5.50 was a half neck away third for Mick Huxtable and Paul Gatt.

After running a stylish second on the provincial track of Strathalbyn ten days ago Silver Raven $21 gave horse carer Shane Coombs and jockey Chad Lever a half length victory in race six which was contested over 1250 metres.

The progeny of the United States bred entire Jan Murray and the At Talaq mare Joyseeker Silver Raven came from near the rear of the field to record her fifth win from start forty-two.

Silver Raven beat the Phillip Stokes trained apprentice Jacob Rule ridden Furline $6. The $26 chance Miners Gem was another three quarters of a length away third for Bill Smart and apprentice Libby Hopwood.

Sired by Centre Stalls and being out of Kids, a Rustic Amber mare, Finniss Storm was the second $21 returned winner in a row when he was the one and a half length victor of the 1400 metre seventh race.

Mentored by John Hyam and with Troy Baker in the saddle Finniss Storm began in the middle of the field and then quickly went to the front going on to beat the $3 equal favourite the Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas trained Clare Lindop ridden Miss With Attitude with the unplaced Hastein.

Interview $31 was another short neck away third for John Thompson and Jeffrey Maund.

Winning by a margin of a length Globalwarmnsceptic $5 gave mentor Lloyd Kennewell and apprentice Billy Egan victory in the final event of 1000 metres.

A Bel Esprit four year old gelding from the daughter of Export Price Shirley’s Toy, Globalwarmnsceptic was well placed and defeated the Stewart Gower prepared Michael Hoppo ridden Monfils $21.

Shot Of Laughter $4.40 was one and a quarter lengths away third for Eric Musgrove and Jay Darose.
