Saturday's Oakbank Races Report

Jockey Shane Cahill broke a long run of outs when the Lloyd Kennewell prepared Rialya, the $2.30 favourite, was the one and a quarter length winner of the 1900 metre opening event at Oakbank on Saturday.

Coming from a midfield position the Kempinsky sired Rialya, from the Prince Echo mare Ettu Blue, came with a centre of the track run in the closing stages of the event to defeat the Tony McEvoy prepared Simon Price ridden Simply Boogie $8.

Quoted at $3.20 Beautiful Soul was a farther long neck away for Daniel Clarken and Paul Gatt.

Following his win in the Prelude Steeplechase of 3250 metres Guara Grove Beast will now be set for both the Von Doussa Steeplechase and the Great Eastern Steeplechase at Oakbank over the Easter weekend.

Being under the care of Mt Gambier trainer John O’Connor and guided by Victorian cross-country horseman Gavin Bedggood and starting at $10 the Perugino sired seven year old from the Last Tycoon mare Lady Onassis, Guara Grove Beast led all the way in a polished jumping display and beat the Ciaron Maher prepared Steven Pateman ridden July $2.30.

Cash Advance was another neck away third for John A O’Connor and Tom Ryan.

Trainer Lloyd Kennewell brought up and early double when the Bel Esprit four year old gelding Globalwarmnsceptic, the $3.50 favourite, was the length winner of the 1050 metre third race.

From Shirley’s Toy, an Export Prince mare, the Nathan Rose ridden Globalwarmnsceptic was well placed and beat St Fraser $12 for local horse carer Ken Matson and rider Matthew Neilson.

Bella Leah $7 was a farther one and a quarter lengths away third for Paul Seater and Libby Hopwood.

The Victorian team of Eric Musgrove and Aaron Lynch were well pleased with the neck win of Rabbuka $3.40 in the Prelude Hurdle which was run over 2900 metres.

Sired by the American bred Giant’s Causeway from the Fappiano mare Explosive, Rabbuka was handy to the lead throughout and beat the Leon Wells prepared Trent Wells ridden Tibooburra Travis, the $2.80 favourite.

Rude ’N’ Abrupt $9 was another three quarters of a length away for Gordon Richards and Martin Kelly.

From the Royal Academy mare Regal Flute Tobouggie Woogie gave the team of Leon Macdonald, Andrew Gluyas and Clare Lindop a two length win in the 1400 metre fifth event.

Starting at $5 the Tobougg sired five year old mare Tobouggie Woogie settled well before going on to beat Zizz $7 for mentor Patrick Payne and rider by Simon Price.

Nevzlin, the $3 public elect, was another half length away third for John Thompson and Matthew Neilson.

Instructor won his second race in four months when he was the short half head winner of the 2150 metre sixth race. Being under the care of veteran trainer Len Smith and owned by a group of Northern Territory racing enthusiasts headed by Viv Oldfield the Pins sired Instructor $12, from the Centro mare Excelo, was not very far off the lead for the entire journey.

Ridden by Simon Price who said after the event that the gelding handled going down the hill beautifully, Instructor beat the Leon Macdonald/Andrew Gluyas prepared Clare Lindop ridden Bacchus Eagle, the $2.70 equal favourite with the unplaced Day Dream Charlie.

Magnificat $4.60 was a farther head away filling the minor placing for Mick Huxtable and Paul Gatt.

Having his seventh start and winning his fourth race Little Akie $8 gave his trainer Brian Mueller and apprentice Lauren Stojakovic a two length win in the 1400 metre seventh race.

An Akhadan gelding from the Blevic mare Double Spirits, Little Akie was well placed and beat Conduction, the $2.60 favourite trained by Mick Huxtable and ridden by Paul Gatt.

One and a quarter lengths away third was Justify That $16 for Strathalbyn trainer Peter Moody and Troy Baker.

Dujac turned his recent form around when he was the short half head winner of the 1900 metre Kangaroo Island Cup. Starting at $14 the Denis O’Leary trained apprentice Libby Hopwood ridden Jeune gelding, from the New Regent mare Skyward, held down a mid field position before going on to beat the Lloyd Kennewell prepared Shayne Cahill ridden Loukoumi $13.

In an exciting finish Willego $31 was a farther short half head away third for Shane Oxlade and Matthew Neilson.

Returned at $11 the General Nediym sired Cruising Eagle gave trainer Wil Clarken and hoop Todd Pannell a half length victory in the final event of 1100 metres.

From the Danehill matron Rising Eagle Cruising Eagle was well placed before taking the lead and going on to beat Hearts ‘N’ Halos $12 for horse carer Peter Blanch and rider Dominic Tourneur.

The $5 equal favourite Sweet Franny with the unplaced Regalina was a father three quarters of a length away third for Kirsty Cordon and Simon Price.
