Famous Stud To Trade Under New Name

Lindsay Park Stud, an iconic Australian thoroughbred nursery, has figured in a change of name.

The famous South Australian property founded by champion trainer Colin Hayes in the 1960s will now trade as Cornerstone Stud.

While the change is hailed as the start of a new era, the Hayes family's link with the farm continues with the late Hall of Fame trainer's grandson Sam a partner in the property.

"The business wanted a name that was solid, down to earth, grounded but the start of something bigger," an announcement on the stud's website said on Tuesday.

"We also like the fact that as a tip of the hat to where we have come from, the stud's initials are now CS."

While Colin Hayes trained more than 5000 winners, his association with racing tycoon Robert Sangster helped Lindsay Park become a major contributor to the Australian breeding industry.

Stallions who made their name under the Lindsay Park banner have included Melbourne Cup winners At Talaq and Jeune.

Without Fear, Bluebird, Military Plume and Scenic also kept the stud at the forefront of the Australian breeding scene.

In announcing the name change, Cornerstone also said it would stand leading stallion Hussonet during the next Australian breeding season.

Sam Hayes and Arrowfield chairman John Messara have brokered a deal to shift the former South American sire from a Hunter Valley base.

Hussonet's Australian progeny include the 2007-2008 Australian horse of the year Weekend Hussler and the Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reaan.

Among Hussonet's eight stakes performers this season is the Oakleigh Plate winner Eagle Falls.

Hussonet will stand alongside Good Journey, Reaan, Barely A Moment, De Beers and Shrewd Rhythm.
