Wednesday's Strathalbyn Races Report

Four local trainers Fred Meuring, Phillip Cole, David Jolly and Brian Mueller featured when they led in a winner apiece at Strathalbyn on Wednesday.

The efforts of the trainers were complimented when riders Dominic Tourneur, Simon Price and apprentice Libby Hopwood all landed doubles.

Punters who follow the Fred Meuring stable drew first blood when You Are So Vain $10 scored a short half head win in the opening event of 1100 metres.

Dominic Tourneur chalked up the first leg of his double the four year old mare Your Are So Vain, from the Spectrum mare Pretty Pinay, was well concealed in the early stages but thundered home to defeat Classical Glory, the $3.20 favourite, for the training combination of Kevin and Heater Frew and their apprentice son Jordan.

Another Strathalbyn trainer Barry Dunn combined with apprentice Lauren Stojakovic when Torpify $12 was a farther one and a quarter lengths away third.

The Philip Cole stable kept the momentum going for Strathalbyn trained horses when the Justin Potter ridden Arthurian Legend $11 scored a five length win in the 1350 metre second race.

From the Beautiful Crown mare Harmonic Crown and sired by Home On The Range, Arthurian Legend came from third and defeated Social Finale $6 for trainer Trevor Day and apprentice Libby Hopwood, making it a local quinella.

Mark Kavanagh and Chad Lever were associated with Bach, the $3.40 favourite who was a farther head away third.

After missing the start the half brother to Alcopop - Warmonger put in an eye catching run to finish fourth for Jake Stephens and Troy Baker.

Jockey Dominic Tourneur brought up an early double when he rode Flying First Class, the $3 favourite, to a half length win in Race 3 which was run over 1600 metres.

Being under the care of Murray Bridge trainer David Aldridge the Flying Spur sired three year old, from Tell Someone an O’Reilly Matron, came from a midfield position and beat the Ken Sweeney prepared Adrian Patterson steered Perfect Crown $5.

Another Ken Sweeney prepared runner Bargain Buy, with Matthew Neilson in the saddle, was two lengths away third.

Appreciating the sting out of the ground Love A Giggle $12 gave her trainer Brian Mueller and rider Adrian Patterson a one and three quarter length win in the 1200 metre fourth race.

A Happy Giggle three year old filly from the Zabaleta mare Leta, Love a Giggle was always in the first four and beat the Peter A Jones prepared Clare Lindop ridden Stella Jeune $7.

Image Master, the $5 favpourite, was a farther half length away third for Kirsten McGowan and Dominic Tourneur.

Punters were in good form when the Hurricane Sky sired Zizz, the $2.50 favourite, gave trainer David Jolly and jockey Simon Price a two and a half length win in the 1350 metre fifth race.

From the At Talaq mare Joy’s Girl and owned by a group of tennis identities Zizz led all the way and beat the Stuart Padman trained Libby Hopwood ridden Shimano Miss $7.

The ten year old gelding Scary Smokovec $13 was a farther long neck away third for local trainer Greg Lesnikowski and Michael Hoppo.

After being soundly beaten at its previous start at Strathalbyn Lord Chiefly recorded a two and a quarter length win in the 2050 metre sixth race for trainer Ken Matson and apprentice Libby Hopwood, giving Hopwood the first leg of her double.

A five year old gelding sired by Gallo Di Ferro from the Majaahed mare Majaahed’s Girl, Lord Chiefly $21 came from a midfield position to defeat the $3.50 favourite Kuipto Blaze for local mentor Roslyn Day and apprentice Jordan Frew.

Tuscan Wonder $5.50 was a farther two and a quarter lengths away for Kirsten McGowan and Simon Price.

Jockey Simon Price scored his second win for the afternoon when the Colin Baker prepared Rikbat $4.80 was the four and three quarter length winner of the 1600 metre seventh race.

Sired by the United States bred Tabkir from the Classic Account mare Island Account, Rikbat led all the way and beat Ultra Savings $10 for mentor Jamie Opperman and rider Dominic Tourneur.

Adam’s Peak, the $4 equal favourite with Dancing Havana, was a farther three lengths away third for Georgie Henderson and Jordan Frew.

Libby Hopwood graced the winner’s enclosure for the second time when she scored a three quarters a lengths win on Tony McEvoy trained Apres Cougar in the last event which was contested over 1350 metres.

Starting at $7 the Fomalhault sired Apres Cougar from the Perugino mare Still The One came from a mid field position and defeated The Princes $5.50 for local mentor Brian Mueller and Dominic Tourneur.

Persian Palace, the $3.20 equal favourite with the fifth placed runner Teairra, was another short head away third for Daniel J Clarke and Matthew Neilson.

The SRC will race again on Thursday, June 2.
