Wednesday's Gawler Races Report

Trainer Gary Searle provided one of two upsets on the day when his charge Seminole was backed in from an opening quote of $51 to start at $8  and record a three and three quarter length win in race six which was contested over 1500 metres at Gawler on Wednesday.

After doing his early racing in Ireland and England Seminole, an Indian Dancer gelding from the El Gran Senor mare Mystic Tempo, found his way to the Searle stable after being brought to Australia by Sydney trainer Chris Waller.

Chris Bryant guided the five year old from a rearward position to take the event from the Robert Fries trained Jeffrey Maund ridden My Silverado $9 while Diamond Island $8 was a farther one and a half lengths away third for Daniel Clarken and his apprentice Lauren Stojakovic.

Former Queensland galloper Brilliant Ween, who is destined for a jumping career, provided the second upset of the day when the six year old went from an opening quote of $101 to start at $201 and gave Murray Bridge trainer John A O’Connor and apprentice Mitchell Speers a two length win  in the 2100 metre seventh race.

A six year old gelding Brilliant Ween is leased by O’Connor from Oakbank Racing Club chairman John Glatz.  Sired by Brilliant Leader from the Durraween mare Pride of Kallina, Brilliant Ween was well placed and beat the Kerri McAnulty trained Claudia Lions ridden Scarlet Rose $17.

The Catcher $5.50 was a farther one and three quarter lengths away third for Lisa Ryan and Clare Lindop.

The combination of trainer Mark Minervini and jockey Shane Cahill brought up an early double in the first two races .

Starting for the second time Triple Tee, a three year old Tayasu Tsuyoshi gelding from the Bellotto mare Truly, was the one and a half length winner of the opening event of 1100 metres.

An all the way winner Triple Teee the $2-60 favourite, was too strong for the David Jolly prepared Paul Gatt ridden Noble Success $4.60.  Where’s Tim was a farther half length away third for Dion Koch and Justin Potter.

Minervini said after the event that he will consider starting Triple Tee in city company in the near future.

A margin of two and three quarter lengths saw Mark Minervini and Shane Cahill in the winner’s circle again when first starter

Little House, the $2.70 favourite, was successful in the 1200 metre second race.

An Arena gelding from the Canny Lad mare Prairie, Little House came from a midfield position to beat the $6 chance Holy Shemoley for local mentor John Macmillan and jockey Paul Gatt.

Lightning Lady $6 was a farther one and three quarter lengths away third for Phillip Stokes and Sam Rowley.

Mark Minervini was pleased with the win of Little House and said that she will be better over more ground in the future.

After being a clear last when the starter released the field Dan’s a Lady gave her trainer Sue Nolan and rider Damien Robinson a two length victory in the third race which was run over 1050 metres.

Starting at $18 the Akhadan sired three year old filly from the Scenic mare Lady Scenita, Dan’s A Lady came with a powerful run on the outside of the field over the concluding stages to defeat the Daniel J Clarke trained Shane Cahill ridden Frank the Ripper $21.

Limbo Queen $13 was a farther half length away third for Stuart Padman and Matthew Neilson.

The combination of Phillip Stokes and Paul Gatt tasted victory when Mossego was the one and a quarter length winner of the 1500 metre fourth race.

A Mossman two year old from the Scenic mare Nic’s Sister, Mossego steadily made up ground and beat the Craig Stewart prepared Chad Lever ridden Our Freedman $4.

A long head away third was Flash Mick $11 for Sue Nolan and Clare Lindop.

When asked what plans he had for the two year old Phillip Stokes said that he will have one more start in the city before being spelled and will come back to more distance and maybe Derby contention.

Facing the start for the forty-eighth time and winning his second race He’s a Houndog $9.50 gave apprentice Amy Herrmann a welcome return to the saddle after a month on the side lines, following surgery, in the 1100 metre fifth race - the Wolf Blass Rascal Club Class 1 Handicap.

Trained by Barry Brook the Foxhound gelding He’s a Houndog, from the Nassipour mare Snazzy Nazzy, was always well placed and beat the Tim Snelling prepared Todd Pannell ridden Artechs $6 by a nose.

The Simon Bates prepared Troy Baker ridden Rubilad $9 was a farther one and a half lengths away third.

Sired by Golden Lake Dapamac gave trainer Karen Byrnes and jockey Clare Lindop a long neck win in the 1200 metre eighth race.

From the Sir Dapper mare Tashilado, Dapamac $8 came from well back to defeat Testate for mentor Stuart Padman and apprentice Sam Rowley.

A farther three and a quarter lengths away third was the Justin Potter mount, the Shane Oxlade prepared Sandquill $7.

Trainer Ryan Balfour and apprentice Scott Westover were well pleased with the long head victory of Fraacharm $8 in the final event which was contested over 1500 metres.

From the Mustin Lake mare Fager’s Charm and sired by the USA bred Fraar, Fraarcharm came from the rear of the field and powered home to defeat the Claudette Rose trained Dom Tourneur ridden Hurricane Thunder $26.

After being the one time leader Notonmatchday $14 was another three and a half lengths away filling the minor placing for Ray Moore and apprentice Melanie Tyndall.

The GBJC will hold its next meeting at the Evanston Racecourse on Thursday, August 4th.
