Gawler Races Report

Trainer John Vandermyle put cheer into the festive season for the locals when his charge Slippery Ninja had a win at the Christmas Breakup Day at the Races meeting at the Gawler Racecourse on December 21.

Starting the $1.80 favourite the Adrian Patterson ridden Slippery Ninja, a near all the way winner of the 1111 metre second race, is from the Tale of the Cat mare Grisabella and sired by Lucky Owners.

Slippery Ninja beat the Ron Stokes trained Jason Holder ridden Super Silks $21 giving the Gawler track the quinella.

Starting at $3.20 first starter Grand Zee was a farther long neck away filling the minor placing for Mark Kavanagh and Simon Price.

Not having missed a place in her last two starts Pam Ann broke her maiden status when she was the six and a quarter length winner of the opening event of 1716 metres.

Trained at Strathalbyn by Rebecca Hodgson and ridden by Justin Potter the Jet Spur sired Pam Ann $3.20, from the Salt Lake mare Wasatch, was well placed and took the lead at the 400 metre mark before going on to beat the Ricky Moore prepared Libby Hopwood ridden S'Amuse $21.

Fantastic Reign, the $2.60 favourite, was a farther half neck away third for John Dunn and Matthew Neilson.

Trainer Will Clarken and rider Jeffrey Maund tasted victory when Where's My Wagon $3.80 was the long neck winner of the 1511 metre third race.

Being in the leading division for the majority of the event the Catcher In The Rye sired Where's My Wagon, from the Fair Sir matron Totally True, will have one more start, probably at Morphettville, before going for a spell.

Where's My Wagon beat Prayer Academy $8 for local mentor Gary Searle and jockey Adrian Patterson.

The $2.50 favourite Flash Mick was a farther one and a quarter lengths away third for Sue Nolan and Shayne Cahill.

Trainer Dennis O'Leary brought up his third win in five days when he teamed with jockey Todd Pannell in the win of Break the Dry in the 1211 metre fourth event.

Returned at local tote dividends of $2.80 and $1.30 the Gallo Di Ferro sired five year old mare Break the Dry, from the Gold Ace mare Oahu Ace, was well in contention throughout the event and beat the Leon Macdonald / Andrew Gluyas trained Clare Lindop ridden Miss Satchmo $1.50.

Sombre $2 was a farther two and a quarter lengths away third for Paula Trenwith and Jason Holder.

Described as a mini sensation the top-weight Distillation set off a chain reaction when he reared in the starting stalls which resulted in five late scratchings in the event.

Delicious Belle $2 brought up a double on the Gawler track in a fortnight when she was the winner of race five which was contested over 1716 metres.

Prepared by Richard Jolly and with the services of Paul Gatt the Commands mare Delicious Belle, from the Semipalatinsk mare Give to Thee, was well placed and defeated the Danny Penna mentored Justin Potter ridden Hidden Tears $9.

Regal Hero $3 was a farther four and a half lengths away third for Len Jarvis and David Tootell.

Richard Jolly said after the event that Delicious Belle will have her next run in an 1800 metre event at Morphettville on January 7th.

Starting at $6 Forcryingoutloud gave co-trainers Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas and jockey Clare Lindop a neck win in the 2122 metre sixth race.

From the Danewin mare Classic Kyles and fathered by Street Cry, Forcryingoutloud came from a better than mid-field position to beat The Catcher $4 for local trainer Lisa Ryan and rider Matthew Neilson.

Shams Time $4 was a farther half head away third for another local trainer Gary Searle and his apprentice Melanie Tyndall.

The Bill Bogarts trained and apprentice Lauren Stojakovic ridden El Mazel $10 brought up win number two from fourteen starts when she was the three quarters of a length winner of the seventh race which was run over 1511 metres.

A Modern Era four year old from the El Moxie mare El D'rails, El Mazel led all the way and beat the Karen Brynes prepared Clare Lindop piloted $2.60 favouriteLottalago.

Two Bees $6 was another head away third for Georgina Henderson and Troy Baker.

A drifter in betting from $15 out to a starting price of $21 saw Shanpanichi greet the judge with a half length to spare in the 1111 metre final event.

Being under the care of Sam Burford and ridden by Troy Baker the Fusaichi Pegagus fathered Shanpanichi, from the daughter of Flying Spur, Chandon Rose, was well positioned and beat Nordic Monarch the $2.10 public elect for mentor Tony McEvoy and his apprentice Jake Toeroek.

Starting at $9 Odette was another one and a quarter lengths way third for Leah Conlon and Lauren Stojakovic.
