Gawler Races Report

Trainer Gary Searle received a post Christmas present and an early New Year gift when his charge Nevele Tol saluted the judge in the 2126 metre second race on Family Day at the Evanston Racecourse on December 28.

Combing with jockey Adrian Patterson the Searle prepared Skalato sired Nevele Tol $7, from the Rubiton mare Innovation Lass, settled well in a mid field position before going on to record a two length win over the Tony McEvoy trained Matthew Neilson guided Kerford, the $3.30 favourite, who finished a half length ahead of the Ricky Moore cared f or Libby Hopwood piloted S'amuse $6.

Searle said the four year old gelding is still learning about racing and will have his start in a 0-62 rating event which will be run over 1200 metres at Gawler on Wednesday January 18.

Nevele Tel is part owned by Alice Springs resident Chris Douglass who was on course to watch the gelding win his first start at outing number fourteen.

Trainer Phillip Stokes and rider Matthew Neilson were first out of the blocks when Essence, the $220 favourite, was the one and a quarter length winner of the 1518 metre opening race.

Being well placed throughout the event the Fastnet Rock filly Essence, from the Snippets mare New Style, beat the Tony McEvoy trained Jake Toeroek ridden Tang Prosper $2.50.

Magarey Miss $11 was a farther seven and a quarter lengths away third for David Balfour and Todd Pannell.

Essence will go to an 1800 metre event at Morphettville before being turned out for a spell and then being brought back for the three year old Classic races in April and May.

Taking the lead soon after the start Pure Dane $7.50 gave trainer Daniel Clarken and his apprentice Lauren Stojakovic a two length win the 1115 metre third race.

From the O'Connor mare Pure Wool and fathered by Akhadan, Pure Dane beat Cornish Lad $5 for Claudette Rose and Simon Price.

A long neck away third were the dead heaters, the Scott Trenowden trained Matthew Neilson ridden Better Ark Up $13 and the Bill Papazaharoudakis trained Paul Gatt ridden Foxy Ruby, the $2.45 favourite.

Trainer Jon O'Connor brought up the first leg of a race to race double when his apprentice Nathan Rose guided Wine Lover to a nose win in the 1215 metre fourth race.

A three year old Barely a Moment gelding from the Keepers mare Miss Balhannah, Wine Lover $7 was not sighted in the early stages of the event but thundered home to defeat the Lloyd Kennewell prepared Shayne Cahill piloted Swift Shamrock $5.

Finniss Moment $26 was another one and a quarter lengths away third for John Hyam and Troy Baker.

Having her fourteenth race day outing and winning her third race Oui Si Attitude, the $2.40 favourite, gave her trainer Jon O'Connor the second leg of a race to race double in the 1518 metre fifth race.

With the services of Todd Pannell the Bianconi sired Oui Si Attitude, from the Flying Spur mare Sizzie 'em, came from last to defeat Beautiful Soul $3.20 for mentor Daniel Clarken and rider Lauren Stojakovic.

The combination of Paula Trenwith and Claudia Lions were seen in the minor placegetter's stall when Sierra Skies $8 was another one and a half lengths away third.

Starting at $3 Cute to Boot gave her trainer Bill Smart a one and three quarter length victory in the 1215 metre sixth event.

The win of the Centre Stalls mare Cute to Boot, from the Kenny's Best Pal matron Tracerline, gave her rider Matthew Neilson the second leg of a double.

Being well placed Cute to Boot defeated the Richard Jolly prepared Paul Gatt piloted Provider $4.80.

Bicker $4.20 was a farther one and thee quarter lengths away third for Ken Sweeney and his apprentice Tillie Neve.

Strathalbyn based trainer Emma Hubbard tasted victory for the second time this month with her charge Major De, the winner of the 2126 metre seventh race.

Ridden by Todd Pannell the Encosta de Lago sired six year old gelding Major De, from the King's Theatre mare Major Drama, settled well before drifting back to a midfield position and had enough speed over the concluding stages to go on and defeat Shams Time for the combination of local trainer Gary Searle and his apprentice Melanie Tyndall.

After leading for most of the journey Musty Springs was a farther half neck away third for John Hickmott and Adrian Patterson.

Favourite supporters left the course with a smile on their faces when the $3.80 public elect Silent Attitude presented trainer Peter Blanch and jockey Shayne Cahill with a two and quarter length win in the 1518 metres final event.

Sired by the Japanese bred Tayasu Tsuyoshi and mothered by the daughter of Amen Brother, Landscape's Gift, Silent Attitude powered home from a mid field position and beat Fresh Tell $18 for local horse carer Gary Searle and his apprentice Melanie Tyndall.

Starting at $8 another Gary Searle runner Just A Giggle, with apprentice Jackson Matthews in the saddle, was a farther half neck away third.
