New Track Manager for Mount Gambier

The Mount Gambier Racing Club has appointed a new track manager.

Mark Biddle, who is currently the assistant track manager at the Wellington Racing Club in New Zealand, will take up his post in Mount Gambier early in the new year.

The current track manager, Steve Henwood, is moving on after five years in the position and will take up the role of Seymour track manager.

Biddle has 12 years experience in racecourse maintenance and curation and holds New Zealand's national qualification in turf management. His role at Mount Gambier will encompass the track management of the course proper and training tracks, as well as raceday management.

"South Australia is very fortunate to have secured a manager of Mark's qualifications and experience," Racing Industry track consultant Ray Hawke said. "It is another step forward for the Mount Gambier racing club and their new course and training facilities will be in good hands. Steve Henwood, who has been in the role for five years, has done a tremendous job and we wish him well at his new post in Seymour."

Mount Gambier's track reconstruction, which includes a new course proper, training track, sand track, a new moveable rail and automated irrigation system is almost complete.

The tracks are already grassed and are now growing in readiness to the track re-opening. Racing is set to return to the picturesque course in April.
