RACE 1 : ARISTOCRAT BLACK BRUMBY HANDICAP - 1000 metres

The start of this race was delayed owing to ROYAL SASH proving difficult to load. Mr. D. Jolly, the trainer of ROYAL SASH, was advised that a repetition of the filly’s behaviour would lead to action being taken against it.

RACE 2 : ARISTOCRAT HOLD YOUR HORSES PLATE - 1000 metres

The start of this race was delayed owing to HOLY MOLEY proving difficult to load. Mr. S. Turner, the trainer of HOLY MOLEY, was advised that a repetition of the filly’s behaviour would lead to action being taken against it.

Inside the 100 metres CASHKALANI (C. Lindop) shifted in under riding onto HOLY MOLEY (T. Barras), which was obliged to steady off its heels. C. Lindop was reprimanded and advised to take greater care when shifting ground in future.

RACE 3 : HONDA HANDICAP - 1806 metres

TASTE THE MAGIC, which made a noisy respiratory noise after the event was subjected to an endoscopic examination by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, which revealed the gelding had suffered internal bleeding in the lungs during the race.

Subsequent to the event TALANTO was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding had suffered an abrasion to the off hind hock.

RACE 4 : CARLTON DRAUGHT HANDICAP - 1306 metres

LUSKIN’S PROUD was withdrawn by Stewards at 9.45 am acting on confirmed advice from Mr. D.G. Balfour, trainer of the gelding, that it was lame in the near foreleg.

BENARBER (J. O’Connor) was slow to jump.

SKIING (M. Neilson) and OXFORD REGENT (B. Vale) jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 1100 metres JEUNE CAPERS (S. Price) was obliged to steady off the heels of BO BEST (J. Holder), which shifted in, and whilst being steadied JEUNE CAPERS was inclined to get its head up. Shortly after AL ZIMER (N. Tomizawa) was obliged to shift out to avoid the heels of BO BEST, which rolled out. J. Holder was reprimanded and advised to give riders on his inside the room to which they are entitled in future.

Near the 900 metres SCIATICA (D. Tootell) got its head up and raced ungenerously.

At the entrance to the straight JAMATRE (W. Kerford) shifted out to attempt a run outside of BO BEST (J. Holder) and contacted AL ZIMER (N. Tomizawa) taking that gelding out onto SOUTHERN RENEGADE (J. Lyon). Shortly after JAMATRE was taken out slightly by BO BEST, which shifted out, resulting in JAMATRE tightening AL ZIMER onto SOUTHERN RENEGADE. W. Kerford was severely reprimanded and advised against attempting runs where, in the opinion of the Stewards, there was insufficient room.

RACE 5 : THE WINNING MARGIN STAKES - 2260 metres

S. Cahill, the rider of NEWTOWN JET (USA) was questioned regarding an apparent change in riding tactics employed on that horse today. S. Cahill advised that he had been instructed, due to the lack of pace in the race, to permit his mount to roll forward. He added that his mount had stepped the crossing in the vicinity of the 1800 metres and appeared slightly lame in front following the event. Mr. J. Cornell, representing Mr. A. McEvoy, the trainer of the horse, confirmed the instructions given. Stewards advised Mr. Cornell that in future similar significant changes to instructions in relation to a runner’s racing pattern would be required to be advised to Stewards prior to the event. NEWTOWN JET (USA) was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the horse to be sore in the near foreleg.

SOGNARE, which coughed repeatedly after the event, was subjected to an endoscopic examination by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, which revealed a lower respiratory tract infection. Mr. D. Jolly, the trainer of the gelding, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required prior to accepting for a future event.

Subsequent to the event OTTOMAN was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding was sore in the near fetlock and medial heel.

Subsequent to the event AGINCOURT EXPRESS was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding to be sore in the near fore fetlock joint.

RACE 6 : THE ULE OIL STAKES - 1306 metres

No report.

RACE 7 : COL JOYE SHOW HANDICAP - 1456 metres

ANOTHER GEM (B. Claridge) shifted out on jumping away tightening STRAIGHT BY (Damien Holland) onto MR. JUNEE (S. Price) which was obliged to steady off the heels of RECKABAR (H. McKechnie), which jumped inwards.

In the vicinity of the 1100 metres OAKFIELD PRINCE (B. Vale), whilst racing inside the heels of RECKABAR (H. McKechnie), was tightened onto BIG DEMAND (J. Maund) resulting in that gelding becoming ungenerous and being taken in onto RALLY (J. Potter) which contacted TRIMAHA (C. Lindop) resulting in that horse becoming severely unbalanced. An inquiry into the incident will be conducted at Victoria Park on Wednesday, 18 December 2002 owing to H. McKechnie having left the course.

S. Price, the rider of MR. JUNEE, was questioned regarding his failure to attempt a run inside ANOTHER GEM (B. Claridge) approaching the 200 metres. S. Price explained that he had been aware of the run, however, was of the opinion that ANOTHER GEM had been inclined to roll in under pressure and he had elected against pursuing the option. He added that inside the 200 metres he had then been unable to obtain clear ground until the concluding stages of the event.

SPRING HAVEN, which performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding to be sore in the lower back and that the gelding had also jarred up in the near foreleg.

RACE 8 : THOROUGHBRED EXPRESS HANDICAP - 1256 metres

GIVE ME SOMETHING (W. Kerford) and KULCURNA (D. Tootell) were slow to jump.

Near the 900 metres NATALAMI (Damien Holland) was inclined to get its head up and raced ungenerously.

At the entrance to the straight SPECULUM (J. Holder) rolled out and inconvenienced COVET’S GEM (B. Vale).

In the early stages of the straight NATALAMI (Damien Holland) had difficulty in obtaining clear ground.

BUTTON COUNTER lost its near fore plate during the running of the race.
