RACE 1 : - SHARON FORRESTER JONES BIRTHDAY HANDICAP 1200 metres

NADEMA was withdrawn by Stewards at 8.10am acting on confirmed advice from that mare’s trainer Mrs S Jaensch that the float transporting NADEMA had broken down.

SEREIN (P Gatt) and OUR FAME (J Potter) both jumped away awkwardly.

RACE 2 : - MARY-LOUISE HRIBAL HANDICAP 1310 metres

Mr J Cornell, representing trainer Mr A McEvoy the trainer of OUR PERFECT WORLD, and Mr M Nunan trainer of PRINCESS DANETTE whose horses proved difficult to load at the barrier, were advised that a repetition of the fillies behaviour in the future may lead to action being taken.

HIDDEN CACHE, which had sustained a minor laceration to its head in the float was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon on arriving at the course and ruled fit to start.

PRINCESS DANETTE (C Buchiw) was slow to jump.

DANISH SEAWAY (J Maund), which was inclined to race greenly throughout the event was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres, COSMIC DUDE (P Gatt), which was inclined to race keenly in the early stages of the race and had to be restrained off the heels of HIDDEN CACHE (J Potter).

Near the 800 metres CARLTON CONQUEST (C Bryant), whilst racing tight inside OUTBACK LAD (C Lindop), shifted in abruptly and hampered DANE DAYS (B Claridge).

OUR PERFECT WORLD, which had performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

CARLTON CONQUEST suffered a superficial wound to its off side cannon during the event.

RACE 3 - CAROLINE GILES HANDICAP 2268 metres

ALL BLACK SYMPHONY (J Holder) dipped on jumping away and shifted out brushing GROUND SPEED (NZ) (Darren Holland).

PLANE THOUGHT (D Tootell) jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion LYRICAL PRINCE (B Blacker), which was inclined to race keenly, improved inside ALL BLACK SYMPHONY (J Holder) resulting in that horse being taken out and forced to check off the heels of SHAMROCK DANCER (J Lyon).

Near the 1700 metres, LYRICAL PRINCE (B Blacker), which continued to race keenly improved inside of LANCE CORPORAL (S Price), where there was insufficient room, resulting in LYRICAL PRINCE striking the running rail. B Blacker was cautioned against allowing her mount to improve where there is insufficient room.

Near the 1400 metres, BLEVITA (P Gatt) clipped the heels of FRENCH BELLE (J Bowditch).

Inside the 1000 metres, FRENCH BELLE (J Bowditch) rolled in on to LYRICAL PRINCE (B Blacker) resulting in LYRICAL PRINCE shifting in and contacting the running rail.

Mr P Blanch the trainer of BLEVITA was questioned regarding an apparent change of riding tactics on that mare. Mr Blanch explained that due to a lack of pace in today’s race he had instructed P Gatt to attempt to follow FRENCH BELLE (J Bowditch) in running as it was his opinion that mare would race in a forward position. He stated that at the mare’s previous start at Clare he had instructed the apprentice rider to attempt to follow FULFILMENT during the race and was surprised that the mare had not raced in a more forward position. Mr Blanch’s explanation was noted, however, he was informed that in future significant riding changes would be required to be reported to Stewards.

RACE 4 - CATHY JAYNE DEVELOPMENT HANDICAP 1810 metres

KURTRAY was withdrawn by Stewards at 8.10am acting on confirmed advice from that mare’s trainer Mrs S Jaensch that the float transporting KURTRAY had broken down.

Near the 500 metres, QUESTAMATIC (D Tootell) rolled in and tightened EVANS (P Gatt) on to the hindquarters of THE EX FILES.

QUESTAMATIC sustained a laceration to its off hind stifle during the race.

RACE 5 - CONDOR PANSONIC HANDICAP 1460 metres

Acting on advice from the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon that HI TAIL had swelling below its off fore pastern. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of HI TAIL at 2.28 pm.

FRAAR’S TURN (S Price) jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 700 metres, KOODA HURRY (B Claridge) was obliged to steady off the heels of FOX HELIOS (J Potter), which shifted in. J Potter was found guilty of a charge of Careless Riding under ARR 137 (a) and was suspended from riding for a period from midnight on Thursday 27 March 2003 and to expire at midnight on 2 April 2003, a period of three (3) meetings.

FOX HELIOS sustained a deep laceration to the off hind cannon, which required first aid.

RACE 6 - ROB’S FUELS AT FINDON HANDICAP 1000 metres

ELMO’S HERO (NZ) (H McKechnie) and ALENKO (C Buchiw) were both slow to jump.

KING CROW (Darren Holland) reared as the gates opened.

ST VIVANT (S Price) jumped away awkwardly and shortly afterwards shifted in on to CLASSY LOOKER (S Tronerud) taking that mare in hampering MIGHTY RAJA.

Near the 200 metres Buchiw the rider of ALENKO lost her whip. C Buchiw will be interviewed by Stewards in relation to the matter at a later date.

During the running of the race, ALENKO lost its off fore plate.

MIGHTY RAJA was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

VARGNA, which was lame following the race, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and found the gelding to be lame in the near side knee. Mr J Kluske was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness would be required before accepting for any future event.

RACE 7 - WWW.PASTTHEPOST.COM.AU HANDICAP 1460 metres

INUIT (Darren Holland) jumped away awkwardly and shortly after shifted out on to the hindquarters of KELMARK (J Maund).

KELMARK (J Maund) raced fiercely in the early stages of the race.

Near the 400 metres KELMARK (J Maund) was obliged to steady off the heels of PRIOR MINISTER (J Bowditch), which shifted in.

Inside the 400 metres INUIT (Darren Holland) was forced to steady off the heels of KELMARK, which had commenced to weaken.

PIETA (C Buchiw) hung out at the entrance to the straight. PIETA was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the mare to be lame in the near hind leg. Mr A Gluyas representing Mr L Macdonald, the trainer of PIETA, was advised that Veterinary Certificate Fitness to race would be required before accepting for any future event.

KELMARK, which performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who was of the opinion the gelding may have choked down during the race. RACE 8 - STEVE SLAUGHTER TREE SERVICES HANDICAP 1000 metres

BLUE VENTURE, which had a laceration to its off hind shoulder, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon on arrival on course and ruled fit to start.

Prior to the start SPUNKIE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and was ruled fit..

The start of this race was delayed owing to QUANTUM LEAP refusing to load. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of QUANTUM LEAP at 5.12pm.

Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 8 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 9 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are not subject to the deductions.

In the vicinity of the 700 metres MISS VODKA (C Bryant) shifted in brushing COUNTER SUE (J Holder) resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced for a short distance and approximately at the 500 metres was again inconvenienced by BLUE VENTURE (J Lyon), which was inclined to lay out.

COUNTER SUE (J Holder) was inclined to lay out to the entrance of the straight.

At the entrance to the straight, MISS SCHACCI (W Kerford) shifted out and contacted MISS VODKA (C Bryant), which became unbalanced for a short distance.

J Holder the rider of COUNTER SUE reported that his mount raced greenly when pressured in the middle stages of the race, was inclined to lay out entering the straight and failed to respond to his riding. COUNTER SUE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

Race 7 Forrest Estate Wines Handicap - 1400 metres

Stewards concluded an inqury into interference suffered by WINNING SPIRIT (W Kerford), WESTACE (N Tomizawa), CATLIGHT (H Akiyama) and SADLER JOH (C Lindop) near the 1300 metres. H Akiyama, the rider of CATLIGHT, was severely reprimanded for shifting ground when insufficiently clear and advised in future to give riders on his inside the room to which they are entitled.
