RACE 1 – ALCOHOL GO EASY / SABIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE –  1100 metres:

Acting on confirmed advice from Trainer Mr. K. Buick the float transporting BATHURST BELLE to the course had broken down, Stewards withdrew the filly at 12 noon.

On jumping away TAVOZ (C. Puls) lost its position when tightened between SLIGHTLY IMPERFECT (C. Lindop), which was taken in by AWESOME NATIVE (H. McKechnie) and VON LICHTENSTEIN (K. Post), who was inclined to get away from runners on its inside.

Approaching the 300 metres SLIGHTLY IMPERFECT (C. Lindop) raced awkwardly for a stride when attempting a run between AWESOME NATIVE (H. McKechnie), which rolled in slightly and HOSTILE INTENT (J. Maund).

RACE 2 – HI FERT DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE – 1700 metres:

FATIGUED (T. Barras) jumped inwards and bumped POMONAL PRINCESS (C. Lindop).

JET LANE (B. Neville) jumped out onto MAGUIRES MILLIONS (K. Post), taking that gelding out onto FARAWAY GAZE (S. Tronerud).

Approaching the 400 metres JET LANE (B. Neville) was forced to steady for a short distance off the heels of POMONAL PRINCESS (C. Lindop) which had commenced to weaken and shift about..

T. Barras, rider of FATIGUED, accidentally dropped his whip in the vicinity of the 300 metres. T. Barras was warned and advised that a repetition may result in action being taken against him.

After passing the winning post B. Neville, rider of JET LANE, allowed his mount to shift in and tighten LEICA CUPPA (C. Robertson). B. Neville was advised of his obligations in keeping his mounts straight after passing the winning post.

RACE 3 – COOPERS CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1300 metres:

RACE 4 – BARRY MANEY FORD CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1600 metres:

QUERIDA GEM (D. Yendall) was very slow to begin.

Near the 500 metres RED ROSE (S. Harrison) had to steady and check off the heels of HOUDINI TRICKS (C. Lindop), when he was unable to take a clear run.

Correct Weight was delayed to allow Stewards to review the official head-on vision of the start.

RACE 5 – BRUMBIES SIGNS CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1400 metres:

On arrival at the barriers ZEDOS was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who ruled the gelding unfit to start. Acting on that information Stewards withdrew ZEDOS at 2.58 p.m.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on ZEDOS be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN 12 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE 12 cents in the dollar.
SP bets are not subject to the deductions.

BACONER’S SISTER (C. Puls) was slow to begin.

Racing to the 1200 metres NAIMH (P. Marks), which was racing tight inside FULL BOAR (H. McKechnie), shifted in abruptly, away from that gelding and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of WOODBYNE FLYER (G. Hoobin).

Near the 200 metres WOODBYNE FLYER (G. Hoobin) was disappointed for a run between FULL BOAR (H. McKechnie) which shifted out, and CANNY CIRCLE (K. Post) which shifted in slightly. Shortly after, WOODBYNE FLYER (G. Hoobin) shifted out abruptly and inconvenienced MISS ANCESTRY (D. Missen).

RACE 6 – SMOKE-FREE CHALLENGE 2003 (Heat 2) – 1300 metres

Racing to the 1200 metres LUCIETON LADY (C. Lindop) had to be eased for a stride when tightened by GARLANDTOWN MOON (J. Maund), which shifted in. J. Maund was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

RACE 7 – SUNSMART / SABIS CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100 metres:

JAZZY GINA was withdrawn by Stewards at 12 noon, acting on Veterinary advice after the filly had sustained an injury in the float en route to the course and was unfit to race.

HONEYED (B. Blacker) jumped away awkwardly.

RACE 8 – SMART CHOICE / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1300 metres:

EL PROTECTOR (C. Lindop) was slow to begin.

PASSED OVER (J. Maund) and RENEATH (B. Neville) bumped on jumping away.

KEEP THE NOTE (S. Harrison) lost considerable ground from the 500 to the 300 metres, when held up behind PASS OVER (J. Maund), which had commenced to weaken.
