RACE 1 - OAKBANK PRELUDE HURDLE - 2950 metres

FAMOUS PIRATE (J. Wallace) pulled hard in the early stages.

STAR GAMES (T. Balfour) fell at the final hurdle. T. Balfour remounted STAR GAMES shortly after and completed the course. Jockey T. Balfour was examined by the Club’s Medical Officers who reported that he was uninjured after the fall. A subsequent Veterinary examination of STAR GAMES revealed the gelding suffered a haematoma to the chest.

KEEPARA PRINCE (P. Fahy) tired badly over the concluding stages and eventually finished a distant last position. Trainer Mr. C. Stewart was advised a warning had been placed on the gelding in relation to its poor performance. KEEPARA PRINCE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who advised the gelding was slower than normal to recover.

RACE 2 - BE ACTIVE / SABIS FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE - 1350 metres

CONSIDER IT DONE (S. Tronerud) was slow to begin.

In the vicinity of the 400 metres PINKERBELLE (J. Maund), which had been racing greenly, became unbalanced, stumbled slightly and fell through the running rail, dislodging its rider. J. Maund was conveyed to the Strathalbyn Hospital for observation after suffering mild concussion and abrasions to his head. Trainer Mr. J. Hickmott was advised that PINKERBELLE must complete a Barrier Trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before accepting for any future event. PINKERBELLE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the filly suffered minor abrasions.

Inside the 300 metres VENGADAME (B. Claridge) rolled in slightly onto TASHILADO (C. Lever), which shifted in onto BLEVENCIA (K. Louca), which had to be checked. B. Claridge was advised to exercise more care when placed in a similar situation in future.

Near the 100 metres MAYGAZR (J. Lyon) shifted in at the same time as TASHILADO (C. Lever) shifted out, and as a result VENGADAME (B. Claridge) had to be steadied.

RACE 3 - CHRISTIES BEACH HOTEL/MOTEL / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres

LA JOLIE was a late scratching at 8 a.m. on confirmed advice the mare had suffered an infection to its near fore leg.

Approaching the 800 metres SMOOTH TAKEOFF (B. Grimston) shifted out and bumped RUSTIC HALO (C. Bryant), which in turn shifted out onto PRIOR LEADER (J. Bowditch).

An inquiry was adjourned into the reason for RANGERINE (D. Cleaver) falling in the vicinity of the 800 metres. In the incident the following horses were severely hampered, OMENTIP (C. Lindop), BELIEVE IN VICTORY (J. O’Connor), LOVE ‘N’ TRUST (J. Potter) and LENSWOOD (S. Price). D. Cleaver was conveyed to the Strathalbyn Hospital with leg and arm injuries. RANGERINE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported no visible abnormalities.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres STARDAN (S. Wyatt) shifted out and hampered HOT CHILLI WOMAN (P. Gatt).

Near the 100 metres STARDAN (S. Wyatt) shifted in and inconvenienced HOT CHILLI WOMAN (P. Gatt). S. Wyatt was reminded of her obligations when shifting ground.

RACE 4 - LONGVIEW VINEYARD HANDICAP - 1350 metres

OXFORD DOLLAR (J. Holder) dipped at the start.

GUN SHOT (J. O’Connor) was hampered at the start when TO PAY UP (C. Buchiw) shifted out at the same time as AVIATE (W. Kerford) shifted in.

GUN SHOT suffered an injury to its near fore fetlock after passing the finish post and as a result was euthansed.

RACE 5 - O’LEARY WALKER WINES / SABIS DISTANCE CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 2050 metres

KEEP THE BOUNTY (B. Claridge) jumped out at the start and as a result FARAWAY GAZE (J. Holder) was taken out onto the hindquarters of TWISTED DREAM (C. Lever). As a result FARAWAY GAZE (J. Holder) contacted the heels of TWISTED DREAM and stumbled.

Inside the 1000 metres ZACCIO DAN (C. Lindop) shifted in and away from KNIGHT REFLECTOR (J. Bowditch) and as a result shifted in and hampered CLOUDY PALACE (S. Tronerud), resulting in that gelding to momentarily lose its position.

Correct Weight was delayed to permit S. Price, rider of the 2nd Placed TIONA, to view the official footage of the head-on over the concluding stages. S. Price lodged an objection against the winner ZACCIO DAN (C. Lindop), on the grounds of alleged interference over the final 200 metres. After considering the evidence, viewing the official footage and acting on their own observations, Stewards dismissed the objection.

Over the concluding stages ZACCIO DAN (C. Lindop) shifted out and as a result TIONA (S. Price) was inconvenienced and obliged to shift across the heels of ZACCIO DAN. C. Lindop was reprimanded and reminded of her obligations when shifting ground.

P. Gatt, rider of LIVING ON THE EDGE, advised the Stewards that he was extremely disappointed with the filly’s run as she had failed to respond to his riding from the 700 metres, and in his opinion had raced like a tired horse.

Mr. J. Cornell, representing Trainer Mr. A. McEvoy, advised the Stewards they would be recommending to the connections of LIVING ON THE EDGE that the filly be spelled. LIVING ON THE EDGE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 6 - CLIPSAL, EVERY ROOM, EVERY HOME CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1350 metres

BERNARDO BOY was a late scratching at 12.14 p.m. by the Stewards, acting on Veterinary advice the gelding had suffered a laceration to the near fore leg en route to the course.

PATRIARCH (S. Tronerud) jumped out at the start at the same time as KEENAN’S PRIDE (W. Kerford) jumped in. As a result LAMBRUK (J. Holder) and IMPERIAL CHARTER (C. Buchiw) were both hampered.

WEST POINT ACADEMY was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 7 - SA GREAT CUP (CLASS 3 HANDICAP) - 1200 metres

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres JUG FULL (C. Bryant) shifted in onto BROOKMAN (D. Tootell), which in turn shifted in and hampered PINON (K. Louca).

PRINCE BLEV suffered a laceration to the off fore pastern.

RACE 8 - STARVEDOG LANE CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1600 metres

SWISS CONNECTION (C. Buchiw) threw its head in the air as the gates were released and as a result lost considerable ground. Trainer Mrs. D. Quinton was advised that a warning had been placed on SWISS CONNECTION and that the mare must jump with the field at its future starts.

DANCING LIGHTS (C. Lindop) was disappointed for a run in the vicinity of the 200 metres.
