RACE 1 – McLEAY CARPETS, FREWVILLE / SABIS FILLES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres

IT’S RAINING MARES (P. Gatt) and WEDARRAH (Darren Holland) were slow to jump.

On jumping away TOPSWAN (M. Neilson) shifted out abruptly and hampered AL’S GAL (C. Lever).

Inside the 900 metres WEDARRAH (Darren Holland), which was inclined to race greenly, got its head up and became unbalanced, shifting out, inconveniencing YULE SMILE (N. Tomizawa), taking that filly out onto NADELLA (C. Buchiw).

WEDARRAH (Darren Holland) hung out making the turn into the straight.

Approaching the 200 metres NADELLA (C. Buchiw), when attempting a tight run outside of FATIGUED (D. Tootell), was taken out by that gelding and contacted the hindquarters of YULE SMILE (N. Tomizawa), taking that filly out, brushing the hindquarters of WEDARRAH (Darren Holland). Shortly after WEDARRAH rolled in and brushed NADELLA.

RACE 2 – McLEAY CARPETS, BROMPTON DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE - 2050 metres

Passing the winning post on the first occasion SITKA (B. Claridge) commenced to hang out and took no further part in the race. B. Claridge reported that SITKA was reluctant to race in the field. SITKA was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported no visible abnormalities. Mr. B. Brook, Trainer of SITKA, was advised the gelding would now be required to perform satisfactorily in an Official Barrier Trial before accepting for a future event.

Approaching the finish GRANDE ROSSO (C. Lindop) shifted in and tightened RHEET PETITE (J. Maund).

RACE 3 – TRAVIS McLEAY / SABIS FILLIES & MARES CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1200 metres

BELLIZE was withdrawn by Stewards at 9.40 a.m., acting on confirmed advice from the Trainer Mr. M. McGlynn that the mare had been injured in a floating mishap whilst being loaded.

BLEVIC’S JEWEL was withdrawn by Stewards at 12.04 p.m., acting on confirmed advice from the Trainer Mr. R. Jolly that the filly had sustained a serious insect bite.

KOODA TIARA (C. Lindop) jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 800 metres KOODA TIARA (C. Lindop), when being restrained, rolled out and inconvenienced BELLA BIANCO (B. Claridge).

RACE 4 – McLEAY BULK STORE, BROMPTON CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1200 metres

Inside the 1000 metres GUERNICA (C. Lever), which was inclined to lay in, rolled in and brushed BUICK (B. Neville), which became ungenerous for a short distance.

Inside the 700 metres BUICK (B. Neville) shifted in of its own accord and broke through the inside running rail. Ms. L. Tootell, Trainer of BUICK, was advised the gelding would be required to perform satisfactorily in an Official Trial prior to accepting for a future event.

RACE 5 – McLEAY CURTAINS, FREWVILLE CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1600 metres

Approaching the 1300 metres GROUND SPEED (NZ) (S. Tronerud) was obliged to steady off the heels of THUNDER CREEK (M. Neilson), which shifted in. In consequence BLEVITA (J. Bowditch), which was following GROUND SPEED (NZ), clipped that gelding’s heels and lost ground. M. Neilson was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.

Near the 100 metres GOLDEN MILINA (C. Lindop) shifted in and tightened BENGRETA LAD (N. Tomizawa) onto BLEVITA (J. Bowditch).

NEVADA RED suffered a bi-lateral bleeding attack during the event. Mr. John Hall, Trainer of NEVADA RED, was advised the mare was now suspended from racing for a period of three months in accordance with ARR 53A.

RACE 6 – ROBIN McLEAY DISTANCE CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 2050 metres

PRESTIGIOUS (W. Kerford) shifted out on jumping away and tightened JAZ BREE (J. Lyon) onto FREELANCE (J. Bowditch).

Inside the 600 metres GLASSPARK MISS (J. Holder) became held up for a considerable distance and was unable to improve owing to the composition of the field. After improving its position inside the 300 metres GLASSPARK MISS became momentarily held up at the entrance to the straight, when attempting a narrow run inside YOUNG BEAUTY (P. Gatt), which had commenced to weaken.

JAZ BREE suffered a laceration to its off fore leg during the race.

JEDI WARRIOR, which performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding was exhibiting an upper respiratory noise. Mr. G. Richards, Trainer of gelding, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required prior to accepting for a future event.

YOUNG BEAUTY was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the mare had sprained its near fore superficial flexor tendon. Mr. S. Turner, Trainer of YOUNG BEAUTY, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required prior to accepting for a future event.

RACE 7 – JOHN McLEAY M.H.R. MEMORIAL CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1350 metres

COORDINATOR (P. Gatt) was slow to jump.

J. Holder, rider of ON THE STEEL, reported the gelding got its tongue over the bit during the race.

RACE 8 – McLEAY SHOWROOMS, FREWVILLE MAIDEN PLATE - 1350 metres

S. Tronerud and Mr. G. D. Kennewell, Trainer of SCENIC SUNSET, were questioned regarding S. Tronerud’s engagement on the filly. After considering submissions from both parties, Stewards took no further action.

DOW CAG (B. Grimston) and RUSSIAN VAULTER (P. Gatt) brushed on jumping away.

Near the 800 metres RUSSIAN VAULTER (P. Gatt), which improved into a tight position inside DANCIN’ MAX (J. Bowditch), got its head up when being restrained.

Approaching the 500 metres KISMET SPIRIT (J. Maund) was obliged to steady and lose its position when tightened between PHARDOR (N. Tomizawa), which rolled out, and BLEVENCIA (B. Vale), which shifted in.

D. Tootell, rider of STARDAN, reported his saddle shifted in the early stages of the event; however he was able to correct his position in the vicinity of the 800 metres.

At the entrance to the straight LOTHIAN (S. Price), which was inclined to lay in, shifted in and inconvenienced DANCIN’ MAX (J. Bowditch).

P. Gatt, rider of RUSSIAN VAULTER, reported his saddle shifted over the concluding stages.
