RACE 1 – CARLTON DRAUGHT / SABIS TWO-YEARS-OLD CLASS D HANDICAP – 1000 metres:

MADAMA WELL (C. Lindop) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out at the start.

In the vicinity of the 700 metres PADEIRESS (C. Buchiw), which was racing ungenerously, shifted in and away from TELL THE TRAINER (B. Grimston), resulting in ON A JEUNE (J. Burgess), which was racing on the inside of PADEIRESS, being momentarily tightened.

Due to an injury sustained by M. Neilson, in the barrier gates, he was unable to ride CIDIDELLA out over the final stages of the race in his normal manner.

RACE 2 – BENNIE’S BUILDING CO.PTY.LTD. / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE (1st Division) – 1250 metres:

M. Neilson, who injured his finger in Race 1, was not fit to ride for the remainder of the day and as a result C. Bryant replaced M. Neilson who replaced J. Lyon as the rider of GLENDI BELLE.

GLENDI BELLE, which was kicked by another runner prior to the start, underwent a Veterinary examination which revealed the mare was fit to start.

DEFICIT (J. Potter) was slow to begin.

Racing to the 1100 metres KINCHEGA (W. Kerford) showed a tendency to hang in severely, resulting in HULA DUNDEE (Darren Holland) being taken in onto GLENDI BELLE (C. Bryant) which was hampered for some distance. Shortly after HULA DUNDEE, due to the pressure from KINCHEGA, was forced to check his mount and lose his position. KINCHEGA showed a tendency to hang in throughout the event.

Darren Holland, rider of HULA DUNDEE, reported to Stewards the gelding showed a tendency to hang out throughout the event.

A Veterinary examination of KINCHEGA, subsequent to the event, revealed no visible abnormalities. Mr. R. King, Trainer of KINCHEGA, was warned that a repetition of the gelding’s waywardness would lead to action being taken against it.

RACE 3 – PORT LINCOLN STEEL INDUSTRIES HANDICAP – 1350 metres:

Racing to the 600 metres PUISSANT KING W. Kerford), which was showing a tendency to roll about, was taken in slightly by CASH LOAN (C. Lindop), which shifted in marginally, resulting in DENHOLM (B. Vale), which was racing inside PUISSANT KING, being tightened, having to check and lost its position.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres CASH LOAN (C. Lindop) shifted out slightly, resulting in HENRYSEE’S GOLD (B. Grimston) being inconvenienced.

B. Grimston, rider of HENRYSEE’S GOLD, reported to Stewards that after the gelding showed no early speed and due to the composition of the field, he was trapped wide throughout the event and the gelding was unable to finish the race off due to covering excess ground.

RACE 4 – BOSTON BAY WINES CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1350 metres:

BLAZING IMAGE (C. Bryant) was slow to begin.

Subsequent to the event GIL ECHO was treated by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon for heat stress.

RACE 5 – MOBIL MORTLOCK DISTANCE CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1750 metres:

Racing inside the 400 metres BHUTAN (B. Claridge) shifted out slightly, resulting in BROOKSIDE BELLE (B. Grimston) being inconvenienced and then shifting back to the rail to obtain a run.

Subsequent to the event a Veterinary examination of BROOKSIDE BELLE, which performed disappoingtly, revealed no visible abnormalities.

RACE 6 – KINGS HORSE TRANSPORT CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1350 metres:

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres KAILEY FALCON (C. Buchiw) raced fiercely for a short distance.

RACE 7 – NT & DA DICKSON CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1000 metres:

In the vicinity of the home turn DIGBURY (C. Bryant), which had been racing on the heels of TOVA (C. Buchiw), rolled out slightly, resulting in DIGBURY clipping the heels of TOVA and falling heavily. As a result CARDIAC ARREST (W. Kerford) and DELLA SALUTE (Darren Holland), which were following DIGBURY, became entangled in the fallen horse, resulting in W. Kerford and Darren Holland being dislodged from their mounts. In consequence ZOOMERATOR (B. Vale) and THE JOINER (S. Price) were severely hampered and taken wider in an attempt to avoid the fallen horse and dislodged riders. C. Bryant and W. Kerford were conveyed to the Port Lincoln Hospital for observation and treatment. Veterinary examinations revealed that DIGBURY had suffered minor abrasions to the off fore leg, with no visible injuries to CARDIAC ARREST and DELLA SALUTE.

RACE 8 – JOHN MARMION MEMORIAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1000 metres:

The start of this race was delayed owing to the late arrival of the ambulance after transporting the injured riders to Hospital.

On jumping away EXPORT MIST (B. Grimston) shifted in, at the same time as HIGH DIGIT (C. Buchiw) shifted out, resulting in CHAUDON (B. Claridge), which was racing between those horses, being tightened and losing its position.

RUDI’S JOY (N. Tomizawa) knuckled slightly on jumping away.

CHAUDON (B. Claridge) showed a tendency to lay in, in the straight, and that rider was unable to ride the gelding out in his normal manner.

Racing inside the 100 metres HIGH DIGIT (C. Buchiw) shifted out slightly onto CHAUDON (B. Claridge), resulting in that gelding being tightened onto THUNDERING SEA (S. Price).

RACE 9 – BENNIE’S BUILDING CO.PTY.LTD. / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE (2nd Division) – 1250 metres:

The start of this race was rescheduled to 5.45 p.m.

JOMAX was a late withdrawal at 5.20 p.m. after Ambulance Personnel declared Darren Holland unfit to ride, due to his fall in Race 7 and no other fit rider was available.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on JOMAX be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN 6 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE 7 cents in the dollar.
SP bets are not subject to the deductions.

KALAMAYA (J. Burgess) jumped away awkwardly and shifted outwards.

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres PAINT THE EVES (S. Lovegrove) shifted in slightly, resulting in LEVITE (B. Claridge) having to be steadied and shifting in and away from that mare. As a result, MR. MONTINO (J. Potter), which was racing inside of LEVITE, had to be eased and in turn shifted in onto CROWHAWK (B. Grimston), resulting in that gelding having to be eased.

Racing inside the 100 metres LUNA ROSSA (C. Buchiw) was tightened for galloping room and had to be checked, due to LEVITE (B. Claridge), which was racing on its inside, shifting our marginally and at the same time KASHMIR KING (S. Price), on its outside, which was showing a tendency to shift in and away from KALAMAYA (J. Burgess), which shifted in slightly.

B. Claridge, rider of LEVITE, was fined $50 under ARR 137(a) for dropping his whip in the vicinity of the 200 metres
