Adelaide's Summer of Speed Carnival Launched

The South Australian Jockey Club is excited to announce the third Summer of Speed Racing Festival, which will be sponsored once again by the Australia-wide racing supporters, Jayco.

The Jayco Summer of Speed starts this weekend, January 18 and goes through to March 8 incorporating some of the State’s most prestigious races including the Group 2 Swettenham Stud Stakes, The Group 2 Alcohol-Go-Easy Breeders Stakes and the $400,000 Magic Millions Adelaide 2-year-old Classic.

One week of the Carnival is a real standout. Saturday February 15 - February 21 looks set to provide the best racing can offer.

The week kicks off with the Group 2 Swettenham Stud Stakes, a race won by the likes of Suzy Grey, Umaline, Dantelah and Apple Danish in the past. The SAJC have high hopes that the well-regarded Swettenham Stud Stakes will be considered for Group 1 status sometime in the near future.

Sharing the bill at Morphettville will be the Group 3 Tokyo City Cup. The day will blend the top notch racing with off-course family entertainment, making it a perfect day at the track.

Then on Wednesday February 19, it’s SA’s joint richest race, the $400,000 Magic Millions Adelaide 2YO Classic. This will be the third running of this not to missed event, that is restricted to graduates of Magic Millions sales. It’s a glamorous occasion with fashion high on the day’s agenda. Also, together with SA Great, the SAJC are looking forward to welcoming famed businessman and Magic Millions Director Gerry Harvey, as a guest speaker at the official lunch.

The Summer of Speed comes to an end on Saturday March 8 at Morphettville with the running of the Listed Malaysia Airlines Stakes.

There’s no better place to be this Summer than at the track – so come and enjoy the Festival.
