RACE 1 - RAINE & HORNE SORELL MAIDEN PLATE – SET WEIGHTS

3-Y-O & UPWARDS – 1205 METRES - 12 RUNNERS

A public announcement was made that SUDDEN WARNING will be racing in the following colours: Black with white stars, white armbands and a red cap (Trainer Dean Wells).

A public announcement was made that MASTER SONAR will be racing in the following colours: Purple with a pink Maltese cross, sleeves and cap (Trainer Peter Luttrell).

SUDDEN WARNING (K Moore) had a tendency to over-race in the early and middle stages of the race.

Leaving the 500 metre mark, SUDDEN WARNING which had started to compound, dropped back in the field and as a result GREY GOD (D Pires A) switched to the inside of its heels and in doing so contacted with MASTER SONAR (B McCoull) to its inside. Thereafter, SUDDEN WARNING (K Moore) was eased out of the event at approximately the 150 metre mark when its rider felt something amiss with this horse.

Trainer Chris Crook was questioned regarding the improved performance of BALLY QUI. She stated that she had fitted a tongue-tie to the gelding for today’s event and this, in her opinion, contributed to its improvement. Stewards noted her explanation.

A post-race veterinary inspection of SUDDEN WARNING revealed that this gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer Dean Wells will be advised of the provisions of AR-53A (4) and SUDDEN WARNING may not be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two (2) months and it may not start in any race for a period of three (3) months effective 29/09/2002, whereafter it is to satisfactorily trial over at least 1000 metres in the presence of a Steward.

A post-race veterinary inspection of STRATHMORE LUCK (Trainer R M Worbey) revealed that this filly had bled from its offside nostril.

A post-race veterinary inspection of GOOANDOFUZZ (Trainer John Blacker) failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

RACE 2 - RAINE & HORNE KINGSTON SUPERVOBIS MAIDEN PLATE

SET WEIGHTS 3-Y-O – 1080 METRES - 12 RUNNERS

Jockey D Sparks was fined $50 for his negligence whilst weighing out for his ride on EILY’S LASS. It was established that Jockey Sparks had weighed out without his stirrup leathers and irons.

MIDNIGHT ESCAPADE (R Bradley A) was slow away.

RAILTON (R Waymouth A) blundered at the start. Thereafter approaching the 600 metre mark the gelding raced ungenerously on the heels of runners in front for a number of strides.

When questioned regarding IONACOLUMBA’s performance in today’s event, Jockey B McCoull explained that this filly jumped fairly and then had a tendency to run away from horses on the inside and raced ungenerously for some distance in the early part of the event. He stated that as a result of this he was unable to ride this filly to instructions which was to race from a forward position. He stated that she was reluctant to stretch out in the early and middle stages of the event but finished the race off nicely. He also stated to Stewards that he had recommended to Trainer Charlie Goggin that this filly be raced equipped with blinkers. Stewards noted his explanation. A post-race veterinary inspection of IONACOLUMBA failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary inspection of JOIN THE QUEUE (Trainer W N McShane) revealed the filly to have blood in its mouth as a result of ulceration along the gum above the upper incisors.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race LIGHT RANK (Trainer Jack Green).

RACE 3 - RAINE & HORNE HOBART CLASS 4 HANDICAP

1920 METRES - 7 RUNNERS

Jockey B McCoull reported to Stewards at scale that CARRINGTON STAR over-raced in the early and middle stages of the race.

Jockey S Snell reported to Stewards at scale that PRIVATE ENSIGN over-raced in the early and middle stages of the race.

The start of this race was delayed when an adjustment had to be made to the bridle on SUBTLE ‘N’ SLY (R Waymouth A) whilst the horse was standing in the barriers. It was established that the strap on the off-side of the bridle had come undone from the keeper and this fact concerned Apprentice Waymouth. The bridle on this horse was inspected by Stewards after the event and found to be in good order.

DISGUISE THE EYES (D Pires A) laid in in the straight and as a result Apprentice Pires had to stop riding and straighten his mount at about the 100 metres mark.

RACE 4 - RAINE & HORNE INTERNATIONAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP

1080 METRES – 12 RUNNERS

Stewards reprimanded Jockey B McCoull (LORDS PLACE) under AR-137(a) careless riding. It was established that rounding the home turn and shortly prior to straightening, he shifted to the outside of KILANDY PRINCESS (J Borrett) to obtain a clear run and in doing so inconvenienced CABAL EYES (S Snell) to his immediate outside. As a result, CABAL EYES (S Snell) was momentarily steadied by its rider. Jockey McCoull was also advised to exercise far greater care in future when shifting ground.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race CANDLE IN THE WIND (Trainer Max Wood).

RACE 5 - RAINE & HORNE KINGSTON CLASS 1 HANDICAP

1550 METRES - 12 RUNNERS

LITTLE LUCILLE (S Quilty) laid back as the gates opened and as a result was slow one to two lengths.

NORMAN FLYER (L Balding) over-raced in the early stages of the event and had to be checked off the heels of LADY QUEST (B McCoull) rounding the turn at the 1400 metre mark.

REGENT PRINCE (R Waymouth A) made the home turn awkwardly and shifted ground outwards.

Trainer G White pleaded guilty to a charge under AR-140(A) in that he was careless and negligent in the saddling of REGENT PRINCE and RIVIERA PRINCE and was subsequently fined $250. It was established that when these two horses were presented for entry to the mounting yard, the saddles and saddlecloth numbers had been swapped. It was also established that it was an inadvertent mistake on the part of Mr White. .

A post-race veterinary inspection of REGENT PRINCE (Trainer G White) failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

RACE 6 - RAINE & HORNE SPRING SERIES HANDICAP (HEAT 1)

1205 METRES – 9 RUNNERS

CREIGHTON (NZ) was a late scratching at 3.38 pm by order of Stewards acting on veterinary advice when the gelding was found to be lame in its near foreleg. Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on CREIGHTON (NZ) (16/1) prior to 3.38 pm to be refunded in full. All bets made prior to 3.38 pm to be paid less five cents in the dollar on the face value of the win ticket and five cents in the dollar on the face value of the place ticket. Trainer Mr Neil Richardson was advised to tender a veterinary certificate of soundness prior to CREIGHTON (NZ)’s next race start.

At about the 1000 metre mark MATRIX HUNTER (P Michaelides) shifted out slightly and contacted with METEOR MAN (NZ) (C Kingston) and as a result this horse became crowded for a number of strides and made slight contact with NORSEWOOD (NZ) (L Goodrick).

Stewards spoke with Apprentice Melissa Hamilton (in the presence of her Master, Mr Jack Green) in relation to her use of the whip on RAHIRI in this race. She was advised of the provisions of AR-137A, in particular she was advised to ensure that she does not continue to use the whip when her mounts are out of contention and show no response. She was also shown the video of the race.

RACE 7 - RAINE & HORNE SORELL CLASS 2 HANDICAP

1205 METRES - 11 RUNNERS

GEEZER (R Bradley A) and LARMAR SPIRIT (L Goodrick) was slow away and thereafter LARMAR SPIRIT failed to muster early speed.

DRY WHITE (K Dodge) was momentarily steadied shortly after leaving the 700 metre mark.

A post-race veterinary inspection of GEEZER (Trainer Mr Graeme McCulloch) revealed the gelding to have blood in its mouth as a result of ulceration on the left side of its cheek.

A post-race veterinary inspection of LARMAR SPIRIT (Trainer Larry Dalco) failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race WEST WITH PRIDE (Trainer Jenny James).

Mrs James was advised of the provisions of AR-160B and spoken to in relation to her use of a mobile phone in the mounting yard area. She was also advised that in future stronger action may be taken.

RACE 8 - RAINE & HORNE HOBART CLASS 4 HANDICAP

1310 METRES – 10 RUNNERS

WEST CLASSIC (J Borrett) shifted in momentarily at about the 1100 metre mark and contacted with BASE JUMPER (R Waymouth A).

A post-race veterinary inspection of MISS MOXIE failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race KING FLYER (Trainer John Luttrell).

GENERAL

Trainer Mr G E Blacker advised Stewards that Trainer Mr Troy Blacker will be acting on behalf of and taking responsibility for his runners, CABAL EYES and LILAC QUEEN at today’s race meeting.

Trainer Mr M S Trinder advised Stewards that Trainer Mr Barry Goodrick will be acting on behalf of and taking responsibility for his runner, NORSEWOOD at today’s race meeting.

Trainer Mr Robert Waymouth advised Stewards that his apprentice, Rowan Waymouth, will be placed in the care of Mr Royston Carr for today’s race meeting.

Addendum to Stewards’ Report from Sunday, 22 September 2002 – TTC

Race 7 – Field Family Class 1 Handicap – 1600 metres

Trainer Chris Crook reported to Stewards on 24/9/2002 that it was her opinion that REEDY’S REBEL had bled from both nostrils in the float on the way back to her stables. Trainer Chris Crook was advised of the provisions of AR-53A (4) and REEDY’S REBEL may not be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two (2) months and it may not start in any race for a period of three (3) months effective 22/09/2002, whereafter it is to satisfactorily trial over at least 1000 metres in the presence of a Steward. She was also advised to present the Document of Description to Stewards for endorsement.
