RACE 1 - BRIDLES RESTAURANT MAIDEN PLATE – 1600METRES - 14 RUNNERS

ALIOCHA’S CRAVING (P Michaelides) and MIDNIGHT ESCAPADE (R Bradley A) were both slow to begin.

MIDNIGHT ESCAPADE (R Bradley A) was slow to muster pace thereafter.

QUICK AS A BLINK (B Mason) and REGENT PRINCE (C Kingston) were both inclined to over race in the early and middle stages.

Upon return to scale Lisa Balding (BYE ALL SEASONS) reported that her mount hung in from approximately the 1200 metre mark until turning into the home straight.

RACE 2 - CASCADE DRAUGHT MAIDEN PLATE - 1100 METRES - 17 RUNNERS

Jockey B McCoull pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 120 (b) in that he failed to make the weight on IONACOLUMBA. In view of Mr McCoull’s recent poor record in relation to this type of offence he was fined $200.00.

The start of this race was delayed five(5) minutes due to US ONLY (S Snell) being difficult to load. Trainer Mr R T Carr was advised that a warning had been placed on this filly’s barrier manners.

As the start was effected SUNDAY FLYER (B Mason) reared and lost considerable ground.

ANGEL’S EDGE (S McFerran) was slow to muster early speed.

CHEQUE BOOK BLITZ (S Maskiell) was held up for a clear run when racing towards the home turn.

Rounding the home turn ENMAN (D Pires A) raced up onto the heels of KAQESTA (C Burt) and as a result blundered and fell, dislodging it’s rider. A number of runners following were inconvenienced.

P Michaelides (SONAR DREAM) accidentally dropped his whip at approximately the 200 metre mark.

Apprentice R Waymouth (JUNESSE) was shown the film of the home straight in relation to him allowing his mount to shift in under pressure and in doing so carrying US ONLY (S Snell) and HOT IN BEMBOKA (R Bradley A) both inwards. Apprentice Waymouth was advised that he must take far greater care when shifting ground in future.

K Sanderson (ALVA) was shown the film of the concluding stages in relation to an incident at approximately the 100 metre mark where he allowed his mount to shift in under pressure and in doing so tightened CHEQUE BOOK BLITZ (S Maskiell). As a result CHEQUE BOOK BLITZ had to be eased to the outside of ALVA to obtain a clear run. Mr Sanderson was advised that he must take far greater care when shifting ground in future.

After the event Apprentice D Pires was transported to hospital for observation.

Trainer Mrs C D Crook reported that BALLY QUI’s tongue-tie had come undone at some stage during the run.

A post race veterinary examination of ENMAN, which fell, revealed this gelding to have a depression fracture of the nasal bone. This gelding was also found to have bled from one nostril however was not deemed a bleeder under the rules. Trainer Mr W J Green was advised that he must tender a veterinary certificate prior to its next race start.

A post race veterinary examination of KAQESTA found this gelding to be lame in the near fore leg and Trainer Mr K H Dixon was advised that a veterinary certificate of soundness must be produced before its next race start.

RACE 3 - THORPE TRANSPORT CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100 METRES - 10 RUNNERS

LOCK ME AWAY (S McFerran) was a fraction slow to begin.

At approximately the 700 metre mark EL MOXIE LASS (R Waymouth A) hung in for a short distance.

Racing towards the 600 metre mark DEVON’S BOY (S Snell) shifted inwards and in doing so crowded NEWRY (S Quilty) for a number of strides. LOCK ME AWAY (S McFerran), which was trailing NEWRY, also had to be steadied. Mr Snell was shown the film and advised to take far greater care when shifting ground in future.

A post race veterinary examination was ordered of ALL MIGHTY ACE, which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

RACE 4 - COUGAR BOURBON CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES – 8 RUNNERS

LILAC QUEEN was a late scratching at 2.09 pm when Stewards confirmed via phone call that Trainer Mr G E Blacker’s float had broken down on route to the course. A public announcement was made to this effect.

Trainer Mr J F Luttrell (MR. MOFOOSA) made a submission to the Stewards that he had submitted a gear change for this gelding to race in Blinkers only. Upon checking Stewards could find no confirmation of such and therefore determined that this gelding must race in Blinkers and Pacifiers.

MR. MOFOOSA (B Mason) was slow to muster early speed.

Shortly after the start HIGHCLERE (S Snell), when attempting to obtain a position closer to the rails bumped on a number of occasions with BARKER (R Waymouth A), who in turn shifted in and inconvenienced VIDEO FLYER (S Maskiell). Stewards advised Mr Snell that whilst his style of riding did not breach any rules, they would not like to see his attempt to shift other runners closer to the rails go any further than it did on this occasion.

After the event Stewards ordered a post race veterinary examination of MR. MOFOOSA which revealed this gelding to be mildly lame in front and Trainer Mr J F Luttrell was advised that a veterinary certificate of soundness must be tendered prior to this gelding’s next race start.

RACE 5 - GREAT WESTERN HANDICAP - 1600 METRES - 6 RUNNERS

DARTINGTON was a late scratching at 3.03 pm when Trainer Mr J K Blacker could not find suitable transport to the track after the float transporting this mare broke down on route to the course. A public announcement was made to this effect.

GOLD GOD (C Kingston) was a fraction slow to begin.

FEMME BUISSON (K Dodge) was held up for a clear run rounding the home turn and again when entering the home straight.

At approximately the 150 metre mark FEMME BUISSON (K Dodge) was tightened for room when racing inside BUNDALAGUAH (S Quilty) who had shifted in marginally.

Stewards spoke to Apprentice M Hamilton and advised her that she must endeavour to keep her mounts on a straight course at all times, in particular when using the whip.

RACE 6 - CASCADE PREMIUM CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1600 METRES – 8 RUNNERS

PROVIDE FOR ALL (S Maskiell) was inclined to hang in under pressure in the home straight resulting in him having to stop riding and straighten his mount on a number of occasions.

After the event Stewards spoke to B McCoull (SOMETHING GORGEOUS) about the apparent disappointing performance of this mare. Mr McCoull could offer no explanation.

Stewards ordered a veterinary examination of SOMETHING GORGEOUS, which revealed no apparent abnormalities however, the vet was of the opinion that further tests by the Trainer’s own vet may be beneficial. Stewards spoke to Trainer Mr B P Campbell and informed him if he were to find anything untoward with the mare in the near future that he was to notify Stewards of the same.

RACE 7 - ELWICK FINE DINING CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1400 METRES - 7 RUNNERS

The race book failed to show P Michaelides as the rider of LUMINOUS PRINCE. A public announcement was made to this effect.

CABLELEER was a late scratching at 9.20 am acting on a confirmed phone call from the Trainer Mr J F Luttrell. Upon arrival on course, Stewards received a veterinary certificate stating that this gelding had filling in the right fore leg.

PALACE SCORE (D Keating A) was a fraction slow to begin then raced awkwardly on the heels of EL QUISTADOR (K Dodge) for some distance approaching the 600 metre mark.

LUMINOUS PRINCE (P Michaelides) hung in on a number of occasions over the concluding stages.

The winner CARRINGTON STAR was sent to be swabbed, Trainer Mr W J Green.

RACE 8 - CADBURY FAVOURITES CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1400 METRES – 14 RUNNERS

Trainer Mr L S O’Shannessey (BLACK LIGHT) was charged $27.50 for the use of the Club’s colours on his runner in this event.

ASDIC (B Mason) was a fraction slow to begin.

TURBULENT FORCE (K Dodge) was inclined to over race in the early and middle stages.

At approximately the 800 metre mark FLICKERING KEN (D Sparks) raced tight for some distance between ASDIC (B Mason) to it’s inside and ENCOSTA NOVA (K Moore) to it’s outside.

Approaching the 400 metre mark COUNTESS SOPHIE (B McCoull) was steadied as this mare had a tendency to lay out when attempting a run to the inside of ASDIC (B Mason).

GENERAL

Trainer Mr R Waymouth advised Stewards that his apprentice, Rowan Waymouth, will be placed in the care of Mr R T Carr for today’s race meeting.

Owner/Trainer Ms D Hayes pleaded guilty to a charge under LR 17 (a) in that she allowed an unlicensed person, Mr A P Groves to assist with some stable duties whilst attending the Longford Training Centre on at least two(2) occasions, one(1) of which was the 25th of September 2002. Ms Hayes was fined $200.00.
