RACE 1 - POST SHOP – MAIDEN PLATE (1) - 1310 METRES - 9 RUNNERS

ALIOCHA’S CRAVING (D Pires A) was slow away at the start.

Approaching the 1100 metre mark, STRAIT RAIDER (S Quilty) and OH SO GRAND (J Borrett) came together and made contact. Thereafter leaving the 800 metre mark, OH SO GRAND ducked out sharply and in doing so contacted with STRAIT RAIDER (S Quilty).

JOIN THE QUEUE (L Balding) had a tendency to over race in the middle stages of the event.

STRAIT RAIDER (S Quilty) raced green in the early and middle stages of the event.

RAILTON (R Waymouth A) raced green in the straight and shifted ground both ways.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the event CHEQUE BOOK BLITZ, Trainer D Brunton.

RACE 2 - POSTPAK MAIDEN PLATE (2) – 1310 METRES - 9 RUNNERS

KEN’S COPY (K Moore) stumbled on the way to the barriers, fell and dislodged its rider. The horse was captured by the barrier staff where it was inspected by the veterinary surgeon who past this mare fit to take her place with the field. Jockey K Moore was attended to by the on course ambulance staff and declared fit to take his ride in the race. An announcement to this effect was made prior to this event.

CELTIC RANGE (M Hamilton A) contacted the barrier gate with it’s off fore shoulder upon jumping.

IONACOLUMBA (L Goodrick) was slow into stride thereafter when making ground on the field raced awkwardly on the heels of runners in front and had to be restrained by its rider for a number of strides.

US ONLY (S Snell) jumped awkwardly and outwards at the start and thereafter had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages of the event and as a result LENNOX (K Sanderson) who was following had to be steadied off the heels of this filly at about the 800 metre mark.

MASTER SONAR (K Dodge) also had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages of the event.

Rounding the home turn US ONLY (S Snell) shifted ground inwards slightly and contacted IONACOLUMBA (L Goodrick).

IONACOLUMBA (L Goodrick) cast it’s near hind plate in running.

A post race veterinary examination of KEN’S COPY revealed no abnormatlies.

RACE 3 - GIROPOST MAIDEN PLATE - 1080 METRES - 12 RUNNERS

As a result of Jockey K Moore becoming indisposed following the running of Race 2, he was replaced by Jockey K Dodge on HIGHSTRUNG. An announcement to this effect was made prior to the event. Jockey K Moore was advised by Stewards that he is to tender a medical certificate prior to engaging to any trackwork, trials or any race riding.

The announcement of correct weight was delayed when the rider of SHANTLE, S Quilty wished to view the video together with the connections of the horse with a view to make a submission to Stewards that this horse be declared a non starter under the rules of racing. Jockey S Quilty stated that his horse had become fractious and had it’s front legs off the ground, as a result of PRINCESS OF NIME (J Borrett) drawn to it’s inside, becoming fractious. As a result of this, his horse had its feet off the ground when the gates were released. He also added that in addition the barrier attendant had a hold of the horse when the gates were released. In his view this affected this horses chances in the race as the horse races forward, and as a result of this incident he was slow away. Stewards after taking into account his submission and acting on their own observations, decided not to declare this horse a non starter and correct weight was given at approximately 2.49 pm.

ANGEL’S EDGE (S Snell) was slow away at the start, jumped outwards and contacted with the hindquarters of SHANTLE (S Quilty).

At about the 700 metre mark STRATHMORE LUCK (D Pires A) after taking up a position approximately two to three horses off the inside running rail, shifted outwards slightly. At the same time MISS MATSQUI (C Burt) who followed STRATHMORE LUCK in contacted STRATHMORE LUCK resulting in MISS MATSQUI shifting out and making contact with HELLO HEAVEN (M Hamilton A) to it’s outside. Shortly thereafter HELLO HEAVEN shifted back in and contacted with MISS MATSQUI.

HELLO HEAVEN (M Hamilton A) shifted in under pressure in the straight for some distance.

STRATHMORE LUCK (D Pries A) had a tendency to lay in, in the straight.

A swab sample was taken from the winner CLEVER JEEL, Trainer G S White.

RACE 4 - EXPRESS POST CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1080 METRES – 6 RUNNERS

ALL MIGHTY ACE (K Grueber A) jumped outwards at the start.

A LITTLE NEDDY (B McCoull) was a fraction slow at the start.

ALIBRI (S Quilty) was held up for a clear run over the concluding stages of the event after he elected for a run between A LITTLE NEDDY (B McCoull) and ALL MIGHTY ACE (K Grueber A). It was established that ALL MIGHT ACE shifted ground outwards slightly over the concluding stages and in turn hampered ALIBRI (S Quilty) to it’s outside. Apprentice Grueber (ALL MIGHTY ACE) was shown the video of the incident and advised to ensure that she straightens her mounts when they commence to shift ground in future.

LIGHT RANK (K Sanderson) laid in, in the straight.

RACE 5 - POST DIRECT CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1550 METRES-12 RUNNERS

The announcement of correct weight was delayed when Jockey K Dodge (TURBULENT FORCE), placed fifth by the judge, wished to view the video of the home turn with a view to lodging a protest. After viewing the video Jockey K Dodge decided not to lodge a protest and correct weight was announced.

Upon return to scale it was established that BIRLE’S GAMBLE (C Kingston) had cast a near hind plate in running.

Approaching the 600 metre mark EL MOXIE LASS (R Waymouth A) was crowded for galloping room to the inside of TURBULENT FORCE (K Dodge), when this horse shifted in. It was established after inquiring into this incident that BIRLE’S GAMBLE (C Kingston) commenced to lay in and contacted with NORMAN FLYER (J Borrett) on its inside for a number of strides. As a result these two horses shifted ground inwards crowding TURBULENT FORCE to their inside who had to be restrained by its rider, and as a result this gelding shifted in onto EL MOXIE LASS who became crowded for a number of strides and had to be checked by its rider after making contact with the inside running rail. Stewards took no direct action against any one rider other than to show the video of the incident to Jockeys C Kingston and J Borrett and advised both riders to ensure that they keep their mounts on a straight course at all times.

Rounding the home turn TURBULENT FORCE (K Dodge) became crowded to the inside of NORMAN FLYER (J Borrett) and had to be severely checked by its rider. After inquiring into the incident it was established that approaching the 400 metre mark TURBULENT FORCE (K Dodge) became crowded to the inside of NORMAN FLYER (J Borrett) who had commenced to give ground at the time and as a result shifted in slightly. Shortly thereafter BIRLE’S GAMBLE (C Kingston) who was racing to the outside of NORMAN FLYER and who was laying in, shifted in and as a result of this movement NORMAN FLYER was slightly inconvenienced which further contributed to the interference suffered by TURBULENT FORCE.

After considering the matter Stewards decided to take no action against any one particular rider however they pointed out to Jockeys C Kingston (BIRLE’S GAMBLE) and J Borrett (NORMAN FLYER) that they are to take far greater care in future when shifting ground. It was also pointed out to both riders that their horses had made contact from about the 600 metre mark onwards where BIRLE’S GAMBLE commenced to lay in. They were advised to ensure that they leave sufficient room for other riders at all times.

A post race veterinary examination of BANDMAN revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 6 - AUSTRALIA POST CLASS 6 HANDICAP -1310 METRES – 10 RUNNERS

WILDEST raced equipped in Blinkers. The racebook failed to show that this gelding would be racing in Blinkers. An announcement was made to this effect was made prior to the running of this event.

RAHIRI (M Hamilton A) was slow into stride.

BLESS THE LAD (B McCoull) was held up for a clear run rounding the home turn shortly prior to straightening. Jockey McCoull reported at scale that despite the fact that he was held up his horse also had a tendency to lay in at the time.

Stewards after inquiring into an incident approaching the 500 metre mark involving BETTER THINK (J Borrett) and WILDEST (C Burt) established that BETTER THINK shifted in abruptly without warning and as a result WILDEST (C Burt) racing to the inside of the gelding, was inconvenienced momentarily and had to be checked by it’s rider. In the circumstances Stewards took no action against any one rider.

A swab sample was taken from the winner CAITLIN’S HOPE, Trainer R M Worbey.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to "DEAD".

RACE 7 - POST BILLPAY CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1920 METRES -6 RUNNERS

At approximately the 1100 metre mark BLACK LIGHT (D Pires) was buffeted between PROVIDE FOR ALL (S Maskiell) and GRIGIO (L Goodrick) when PROVIDE FOR ALL commenced to lay in. Shortly thereafter PROVIDE FOR ALL (S Maskiell) cleared the field and raced towards the inside running rail and brushed with the running rail down the back straight on a number of occasions when this gelding continued to lay in.

PROVIDE FOR ALL (S Maskiell) laid in throughout the event.

A post race veterinary examination of CALL ME DIGGER (P Michaelides) revealed no abnormalities.

A swab sample was taken from the winner BLACK LIGHT, Trainer L O’Shannessey.

RACE 8 - PARCEL POST CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1310 METRES – 8 RUNNERS

Stewards questioned Trainer T Evans and Jockey S Snell in regard to the apparent improved performance of HIGHCLERE. Mr. Evans stated that in its previous start on the 7th of October, the horse was very coltish and in his view this coupled with the fact that the horse over raced in the early stages of the event may have accounted for the poor performance on the day. Jockey Snell confirmed that this horse over raced in the early stages of the event and other than that had no explanation. Stewards established that Mr. Evans had supported the horse on both occasions. He further added that in his opinion the slow track on the 7th of October did not have an impact on the horse's performance on the day. Stewards noted their explanations.

Stewards reprimanded Apprentice M Hamilton (CANDLE IN THE WIND), under AR 137 (a) (Careless Riding), for allowing her mount to shift inwards at about the 550 metre mark, which resulted in WINGS OF JADE (J Borrett) who was following to be checked. In coming to this decision Stewards took into account Apprentice Hamilton’s relative inexperience and advised her in the presence of her master Mr. W Green that she is to take far greater care in future when shifting ground. She was also advised that in future stronger action may be taken.

Stewards also reprimanded Apprentice D Pires (BARKER), under AR 137(a) (Careless Riding), for allowing his mount to shift in shortly after leaving the 550 metre mark, which resulted in AERIAL PURSUIT (K Dodge) who was following, to be checked. Apprentice Pires was advised that he should take far greater care in future when shifting ground.

A swab sample was taken from the winner HIGHCLERE, Trainer T Evans.

GENERAL

Apprentice R Waymouth was placed in the care of Trainer R T Carr for the day.

Apprentice D Pires was placed in the care of Trainer J Luttrell for the day.

Stewards received a medical certificate in respect to Apprentice R Bradley, stating that she was unfit to ride at today’s race meeting. She was advised to tender a medical certificate declaring her fit to ride before engaging in any trackwork, trials or race riding.

Trainer L O’Shannessey acted on behalf of Trainer B P Campbell at today’s meeting.

Stewards received notification from Trainer R Bovell that K Dixon would be acting on behalf of her runner at today’s race meeting.
