RACE 1 – CHURCH OF APOSTLES RESTORATION 2YO SUPERVOBIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1100 METRES - 12 RUNNERS

The start of this race was delayed for 2 minutes when BRAVE CHEROKEE (J Borrett) proved difficult to load into the barriers.

TULFARRIS (L Goodrick) was slow into stride.

As the start was effected GENTLE BEN (P Michaelides) which was fractious in the barriers jumped outwards resulting in MERRY MISCHIEF (S Snell) being tightened and bumping with BRAVE CHEROKEE (J Borrett) to its outside.

Rounding the turn at the 800 metre mark CHIKKA (S Gates) raced greenly and shifted ground inwards.   At the same time BAILEY’S BABE (T McAllister) who was racing greenly, had to be steadied off the heels of CHIKKA (S Gates).

ON CURFEW (D Pires) was held up rounding the home turn

CHIKKA (S Gates) layed out rounding the home turn.

MAGYEJO (G Millard) struck the running rail approaching the 700 metre mark.

OCEANO (B McCoull) raced greenly throughout.

Over the concluding stages ON CURFEW (D Pires) layed in under pressure and had to be straightened by its rider.

CHECKMORE LASS (D Keating (a)) hung out throughout the event.  CHECKMORE LASS (D Keating (a)) underwent a pre and post race Veterinary check which revealed post race that this filly pulled up a little sore in the near hind.  Stewards advised Trainer T Evans that a Veterinary Certificate must be presented prior to this horses next official barrier trial or race start.

RACE 2 – SOUTHERN CROSS CARE (TAS) INC MAIDEN PLATE – 1200 METRES - 14 RUNNERS

The start of this race was delayed for 1 minute, waiting for the completion of race 1 at Flemington.

DINKUM JAFFA (C Kingston) and NOTHIN’ LEICA TOY (G Millard) were both slow into stride.

MAJESTIC CLAUSE (D Pires) raced greenly in the early and middle stages of the event.

Approaching the 500 metre mark VATICAN LASS (S Gates) attempted to shift wider on the track to obtain a clear run and as a result bumped for some distance with WINDAWAY (B McCoull).  Stewards advised Jockey Gates that he must not continue to ride in this manner when a run does not eventuate.

RACE 3 – CATHOLIC DEVELOPMENT FUND CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1600 METRES - 10 RUNNERS

FABULOUS WILL (J Borrett) stumbled at the start.

WHAT GOES (K Dodge) overraced in the early and middle stages of the event and rounding the 1200 metre mark threw its head in the air.

RACE 4 – NEVILLE SMITH TASMANIA PTY LTD 3YO CLASS 4 SUPERVOBIS HANDICAP – 1200 METRES – 7 RUNNERS

BORN A QUEEN (S Gates) was slow to begin.

At approximately the 200 metre mark CELTIC FLING (S Snell) and MATSERATI (P Michaelides) bumped when CELTIC FLING (S Snell) took a run to the outside of NUCLEAR FREE (B McCoull) which layed out. 

At approximately the 100 metre mark CELTIC FLING (S Snell) layed in and brushed with NUCLEAR FREE (B McCoull) who was racing to its inside, before being straightened by its rider immediately.

CURRENT TREND (S Maskiell) layed out over the concluding stages of the event.

A post race Veterinary examination of EXILE (Trainer A Stubbs) failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 5 – PATRICK CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1200 METRES – 9 RUNNERS

Jockey S McFerran was reprimanded under AR 120 (b) for being in excess of 1 kg over the allotted weight on ACCESS POINT in today’s event and as a result was replaced by Jockey R Hanby.  In not taking more severe action Stewards took into account that Jockey McFerran had not been spoken to in regard to this rule since she was an apprentice.

As the start was effected ME OLD MUKKA (D Pires) threw its head in the air and as a result lost several lengths.

At approximately the 500 metre mark TRILLSON (T McAllister) lost an off hind plate.

LORENCE OF WODONGA (S Maskiell) and MESTINOS (C Kingston) bumped at approximately the 400 metre mark when LORENCE OF WODONGA (S Maskiell) shifted in marginally.

TRILLSON (T McAllister) layed out in the home straight.

Jockey McCoull reported that he believed his mount ANDRE THE GIANT did not handle the track conditions.

RACE 6 – WILLS THE QUADRANT HANDICAP – 1600 METRES - 9 RUNNERS

Trainer Terry Roles was fined $27.50 for use of the Club colours on LORD CHANCE.

FROSTY’S TOY (S Hamer (a)) dipped at the start.

ALMOST SPRING (D Keating (a)) and LUNAR TIARA (R Hanby) were both slow to begin.

ALMOST SPRING (D Keating (a)) layed in throughout.

STORM YACHT (S Snell) layed out over the concluding stages of the event.

Jockey Hanby (LUNAR TIARA) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 144 in that she failed to weight in for gaining 4th place.  Jockey Hanby was fined a sum of $50.

A post race Veterinary examination of FROSTY’S TOY (Trainer R Harris) revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore.  Stewards advised Trainer Harris that a Veterinary Certificate must be presented prior to this horses next official barrier trial or race start.

SPRING WARRIOR (L Goodrick) underwent a Veterinary examination prior to the running of this race and was passed fit to take its place in the field.  Jockey Goodrick reported that in her opinion she felt something amiss with this gelding.  A post race Veterinary examination of SPRING WARRIOR (Trainer S Griffiths) revealed this gelding to be lame in the near fore.  Stewards advised Trainer Griffiths that a Veterinary Certificate must be presented prior to this horses next official barrier trial or race start.
 

RACE 7 – LAUNCESTON PARISH CLASS 2  HANDICAP – 2100 METRES - 12 RUNNERS

Stewards ordered a late scratching of RUTHAIN (J Borrett) at 4.06pm acting on Veterinary advice.  Stewards ordered all bets on RUTHAIN (quoted at 12/1 at time of scratching) to be refunded prior to scratching time.  A deduction of 7 cents for the win and 7 cents for the place on the face value of the ticket on all other bets prior to scratching time. 

HAVANA BAY (S Snell) and CANWAL (B Mason) bumped at approximately the 1000 metre mark, thereafter HAVANA BAY (S Snell) layed in and in doing so inconvenienced CHARZARD (T McAllister) who was racing to its inside.

A post race Veterinary examination of RUTHAIN (Trainer G McCulloch) revealed this gelding to be lame in the off fore.  Stewards advised Trainer McCulloch that a Veterinary Certificate must be presented prior to this horses next official barrier trial or race start.

Jockey Snell (HAVANA BAY) reported that this gelding layed in throughout the event and in his opinion he felt something was amiss, and therefore did not ride the horse out to the finish.  A post race Veterinary examination of HAVANA BAY (Trainer W Pilgrim) revealed no abnormalities, but the Vet was of the opinion that the gelding may be harbouring a virus and may need a blood count to be performed during the coming week.

A post race Veterinary examination of FANTASISTA (Trainer J James) failed to reveal any abnormalities.  FANTASISTA has been stood down to an official barrier trial after Jockey Kingston reported to Stewards that the gelding made an unusual respitory noise whilst in running.

RACE 8 – CHURCH OF APOSTLES CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES -  9 RUNNERS

I’M A RACER (L Goodrick) was slow into stride.

OLD EUGOWRA (D Pires) layed in in the home straight.

A swab sample was taken from the second placegetter of the race NO REMITTANCE  (Trainer L Dalco).

Trainer P Luttrell advised Stewards that Trainer J Luttrell would be taking responsibility for his runners at today’s race meeting.
